Keep an eye on Kysaiah Pickett. He looks very dangerous around goals and has a good bag of tricks with his acceleration and vertical leap.

Not sure what he'd cost in terms of draft picks but he's exactly the sort of player we need.

Looks like a natural crumber. You can't really teach that, you either have it or you don't. Quite a handy mark he took there.

How much will the Giants be able to offer Whitfield? He is a FA next year and with Cogs and Kelly this year taking huge deals (if they stay) how will they be able to satisfy him?

He has been outstanding so far this season and he was huge today, he is not only a defender.

How much $$$$$ would it take to pry him away?

We'd have to offer close to $1.2mil I reckon, along with two first round draft picks.

GWS will most likely require $800k - $900k to retain him.

Always a premium to pry a star player away from a club, especially if you're down the bottom of the ladder.

I'm fairly confident GWS will have the funds to retain him after their list cleanse last year. Also remember Deledio, Shaw and a few others on decent coin will retire too.

As noted in the NGA thread, I watched the replay of the Northern Knights game from today & was very impressed with their ruckman Nathan Howard, who was named as the Knights' best player. He is 200cm & has come from a basketball background.

His ruckwork was very good & he got forward & kicked a goal & should have had a 2nd. He is one to watch if we are looking for a project ruckman.

Whitfield is insanely elite, will be one of the best midfielders for years to come.

If I was a list manager, I would follow the Hawks concept of just stealing developed rucks from other clubs. I would very rarely bother having one of my list as an 18 year old.

Mid season draft coming up, I would not mind Carlton considering a few WA options.

Jye Bolton - Mature midfielder that I think could play forward as well, would be nice player to protect our younger mids.
Nathan Freeman - Injury risk, but certainly provides speed and we certainly require this in our team.
Marlion Pickett - X Factor galore with this player, thought he could be a sneaky option to be drafted for the last two years.
Cory Gregson - Forward impact player
Tyron Smallwood - I like him as a small forward and could be worth a shot on a list.

Yet the 4 best rucks since Cox retired have been one club players in Gawn, Grundy, Goldstein and Sandilands???

Cool story, I like it.

Lycett - Premiership player, stolen at his prime
Vardy - Premiership player taken from Geelong.

Toby Nakervis - Stolen from Sydney

Roughead - Traded away
Boyd - Traded from GWS

McEvoy - traded from Saints
Hale - North

Do you kind of get the picture about rucks yet or do you want me to keep going until I find Gawn, Grundy, Goldy, Sandilands?

Yeah get the picture
Out of that list Nankervis and McEvoy are the only genuine ruckman with Lycett winning a flag with the club he was drafted by.
Boyd played a massive game in the ruck in the GF but like Vardy and Hale is more a Forward/Ruck and Roughead has played most of his career as a defender.

Think its laughable to say theirs no point drafting an 18yr ruckman when we have added in list fill like Phillips and Lobbe adding to Gorringe, Wood, Warnock etc over the years. I would take a De Koning over all of them.

Just because Carlton have recruited dud rucks, does not mean the concept is wrong. It is working for many other clubs, I personally would do it with Carlton.

Other than Warnock, the rest were known spuds when we picked them up.

Early thoughts on the 2019 draft. I know that we're looking likely to trade away our round 1 pick for an established player but if we don't I'd like to see some sort of strategy such as:
First pick (hopefully the @rse falls out of Adelaide's season and they miss the finals... badly) - Pick a forward, someone like a Flanders or Serong
Trade two third rounders for a second rounder to a side needing the points - Pick a running defender like a Lachlan Ash
Fourth round - pick an elusive skilful forward
Rookie pick 1 - pick a big ruckman

Ideally grab a free agent like a Nick Haynes or Shane Edwards and that would be an excellent off season.

Problem was none were effective as fowards
