If we trade, we’ll be getting better deals than that
both those scenarios have us winning the trade by 500 points or pick 40ish and the luxury of a guaranteed pick 11 (pre f/s etc) rather than a crows/carlton future which you could get pick 1 or 18

The problem with this "we can go shopping next year" is that it can be quite unpredictable if there will be players we want available and if these players actually want to come to us. It increases the risk of a) lifting supporter expectations only for it to come crashing down which we've seen this year b) overpaying to get a player just cos we have the picks and c) having a few first round picks in a highly compromised draft. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. We might not be able to get a big or bigger fish. For the last two pre seasons I've read how next year will be the year...it simply might not happen or it might be via free agency
yeah...and the flipside is we bring in more 18 year old's this year and continue to have a huge void in the 25+ year old bracket. A lot easier to rip tom papley out with more picks, or try land a lachie neale. Instead we gamble with draft picks who could turn out to be misses

If we're trading down, it's a sellers market.

We'd be looking at deals like
#15 + 2020 #11 or
#14/17 + 2020 1st

As is tradition on draftmas, we’ll get all revved up about all the things on our wishlist but feel slightly underwhelmed when we realise we only get one of them. Then, naturally, we will get drunk and provoke tension with the rest of the family.

I am only going to ask this once?

WHO DRANK ALL THE ******* EGG NOG?!?!?!?

I hope your right, I cant see gold coast giving up the equivalent of pick 19 in draft points to move from 15 down to 9, and be a pick short next year. Fingers crossed they are that desperate for whoever they can get with our pick

ferrisb belated conclusion of the day:

Adelaide pick McAsey, we pick Stephens
Adelaide pick Stephens, we trade pick 9

It is the interesting part of the draft, I would hope that is Stephens is not on the board that we do considering trading with either GCS or Geelong to drift back into the draft.

Haven't updated this all year. Not a phantom, just pure long term rankings

Anderson
Green
Ash
Rivers
Young
Kemp
Jackson
Robertson
Flanders
Rowell
D Stephens
Gould
De Koning
Henry
Serong
McAsey
Maginness
Taylor
C Stephens
Pickett
Bianco
O'Neill
Worrell
Bergman
Williams
Mead
Day
Taheny
Philp
Byrnes

Some late picks for us:

Still like Hanrahan from last year, Honey, Potter, Pina, Cahill
Wow - why do you rate Rowell so low?

ferrisb silly thought of the day*
  • Bulldogs have no aboriginal players on their list
  • Trent Bianco has toured their facilities
  • Bianco is Italian for white^

* Well, ONE of them, at least.
^ Nothing bad has ever come from focusing on the English translation of an Italian surname.....

Who is closest substitute for a Young/Ash/D Stephens in the 10-20 range?

I'm no expert, but I think the most like-for like in that 15-25 range are...

Young > Will Day / Trent Bianco
Ash > Trent Rivers / Jeremy Sharp
Stephens > Jay Rantall (this is not a great one)

Assuming we make a bid on Henry as touted by some, does that cost us any draft points in the future when Freo match it ? (not really sure how it totally works)

Dylan Stephens on Draft Countdown reinforced his "hope" to get to Carlton and how excited his family would be. Noice!
Am a bit more excited about him which almost guarantees we won't get him.

Can you be super unexcited for Hayden Young, pls?

If Freo match - it has no impact on us. Freo use up x points and we go and pick someone else
If Freo don't match (they will) - we get Henry

Still top 10

IMHO, others have more hurt factor and greater scope for improvement

How much credence do you give for current impact? I feel that this is one thing you (and many others) tend to undervalue, particularly given the underrating of Walsh in his draft season.
