If Essendon didn't trade for Shiel they could have potentially had Caldwell & Kemp.
They now have a 27 year old midfielder that seemingly doesn't kick very well and just adds to the huge array of 180cm mids already on the books. All good.

Yeah I thank our lucky stars we got Setterfield instead of Shiel a much better and cheaper option that has allowed us to still get the others as well. Win win and win

Not that it matters, only an idiot would think we’d compromise our draft just to get one up on the Tigers.
It is funny how they are so positive that the recruiters got the player they wanted and weren't interested in the player taken the pick before. Cos recruiters always get interviewed on draft day and say get we really wanted Stoker but had to settle for RCD. No it is always we can't believe he was still there we had him in the top 10.
Ultimately I don't care if they wanted Stocker/Philp or not. It just matters that our recruiters rated and wanted them.

We believe Nth Melbourne and Sydney were looking at him with picks in the 20's.
It's possible. But Twomey was the only one that reported it originally and now he has changed his tune. You're right, it doesn't matter but there was a fair old circle jerk in here when it was first touted.
We also believe Richmond was looking at him. Not saying Richmond would have taken him, just that there was a chance apparently.
We weren't looking at using any picks after our 43, so using 56 to get up from 22 to 20 was probably the best use we could make of 56. Regardless of who we or anyone else actually wanted or liked, it just eliminated 2 clubs from "maybe" getting the player we wanted.

Well given the detail he's gone into for every pick he's failed to mention it, yet he's has mentioned Swans and North as being interested in Philp as well as only Kemp and Robertson being linked to our selection outside of Dow. He also reported the wheeling and dealing was SOS's doing on the night to try get in front of our pick. So yes, he's reneged on that.
Carlton need burst from stoppage. There are Robertson types in every draft and they are more prevelant than Philps types. It is about building a total list and balancing between best available and needs. Knightmare is wrong. Philp was a better choice for Carlton
