So we may have passed up on an unknown quantity to again pick up a known quantity who is not AFL quality? Worse still, he will be used as
Durdin is a Fisher type, small mids that played as small forwards in their final junior year at senior level
Would be pretty happy if he was as good.

Fisher was drafted as a mid, developed and played as a mid, then moved into a forward pocket a few years later by us.

Durdin, from what I gather, transitioned to a forward pocket role in his last junior year, and we have drafted him with a view to developing him and playing him in that role from day one.

Very different situation.

Not sure what the big worry is? We're in a position where we don't need to sell hope to the masses. *, Pies, North, Adelaide went on a flurry to basically fix major list losses or issues and to appease supporters. We took some players that probably won't play in 2021 but that's ok as bar injury and hopefully natural progression after a weird year of some of our kids we improve. Surely two of;

Dow,
LOB,
Philp,
Stocker,
Honey

Whom all showed something get that confidence and take a next step. Then we have majority of 2020 injured players returning;

JSOS
Newman
Curnow
Marchbank

Of which all 4 arguably are best 22.

Our best 22 is exciting, it's up to our coaches training and game plan now and be prepared to properly scout the 2021 crop to find those gems for I feel we aint getting a top 10 pick next year unless we trade or lose a free agent.

Development is often more important than talent. Who you are drafted to is massively important.

I could not care less about who we did or did not draft, pretty much every kid after pick 6 this year is a dart thrown at a wall blindfolded.

The important thing is that we develop these kids, hopefully Luke Power is good at his job.

Next year jnr footy should return to normal and hopefully we kill it in that draft, both first and second round.

Very happy we kept our 2021 picks. Worth gold.

One man's 'bit strange' is another's utterly ******* ridiculous...

But yes, agree. As I think I say every year, I temper all expectations with a recollection of how happy I was on that fateful night in 2010. I can recall Buckenara writing articles about how unbelievable it was that LeBois slipped to us in the rookie draft, others waxing lyrical about Clem Smith. I can recall a certain ESPN analyst deriding our selection of DeKoning in multiple posts.

Ultimately each club has selected from a bucket of nuggets. Some will grasp gold, others turds. Possibly some chicken...but the analogy loses value from that point on.

Did somebody say KFC?

walsh in the rookie draft, there is nothing surer. Mobile, 202 cm brother of a future hall of famer, on our list. you know it makes sense.

He likes working on farms and driving tractors.

Those kinds of personalities if they aren't elite and football driven can end up not having the same passion for the game as football mad players.

I know someone who knows the Walsh's and the younger Walsh isn't as driven as the older one.

Any ideas if we are picking any rookies today or in the pre season draft. How many spots do you have? Barass mentioned taking one player. Rookie or Pre season draft? Any chance we take Walsh ?

So what time does the RD kick off today?

If they don't start soon, then we're gonna run out of time.

Running sheet got leaked to the media and it's a doozy.

Opening Ceremony (Gil McLachlan) (30 mins)
National Anthem (Meatloaf) (8 mins)
Analysis of the Australian Finance Market and How You Can Maximise Your Interest (NAB CEO) (45 mins)
First Selection (5 mins)
Interview with the number one rookie selection and his family (15 mins)
Second Selection (5 mins)
Interview with the number two rookie selection (but not his family, because he was only the second best rookie) (10 mins)
Brief interval for drinks and sandwiches with toothpicks in them (30 mins)
Reopening Cceremony (including Shifter Sheehan's interpretive dance number to Elton John's "I'm Still Standing") (10 mins)
Third - Tenth Selection (5 mins each)
......

Strange you categorise Durdin as a mid when everyone else is categorising him as a small forward. Given we only took 2 picks bit hard to 3 players

Who is everyone else?

Most guys at that height who are mids at junior level, which Durdin was, will normally only make it if they can play as a small defender or forward

And not leave a spot in the mid season draft?
If Charlie is likely to be out until mid year, surely he can be on LTI list for half the season. Give us that KPD/Utility coverage through SSP, now we have a stand alone reserves team, player could revert to that list after Charlie returns or more likely stay with another potential LTI (sorry, just being practical).

This would allow a pick today, one kept for mid year and a key back up. (Not sure how would affect Charlie's mindset with a hard limit to his return date)

Only the timing is different

Both Fisher and Durdin followed similar paths

Every draft watcher, draft review, his SANFL team and our recruiting department.

"Most guys at that height who are mids at junior level, which Durdin was, will normally only make it if they can play as a small defender or forward" So by that definition it is impossible to draft a small forward, you can only ever draft mids who become small forwards.

Possibly fair, and wondered about his current job. Just quietly no one, bar maybe Rowell is as driven as Sam.
