If Bailey Laurie lasts till our 2nd he looks a fair small fwd/mid option.

A late option I have read about is Rhyan Mansell. Potential to be a Zac Williams type.

What about Sam Fisher now. Bit like Gibbo. Kicked a few when in our twos. Won the Sandover.
Liking Jack Ginnivan in this role, or Will Papley later.

Bailey Laurie could be the Jade Gresham of this draft.

Jade Gresham is the same height as Laurie, wasn’t overly quick, but had good agility and endurance and was a hard worker. Gresham was a smart footballer but didn’t really have any X factor. There was a risk he might be a bit of a nothing footballer at AFL level. I’ve come to realise that short players can succeed even if they aren’t overly quick. They just need very good agility for evasion, good endurance to maintain speed all game and be very smart reading the play and with ball in hand. This could also describe Caleb Daniel.

Laurie also looks really smart with ball in hand. Just knows what he is doing. He really stands out in this regard. He looks like a professional playing with amateurs.

Will be interested to see the draft combine results for where his speed, agility, endurance combination is at.

Is Will Papley actually any good or is he getting hype because of his last name?
Bit hard to say definitively, but some did have a decent underage year last season. Similar role to big bruvva and some multiple goal games. Obviously this season a write off. Similar profile and Tom was a rookie who elevated quickly. I would be happy to take the chance if we have enough picks.

What’s the knock on Henry and Perkins?

I suspect we will split pick 7 and end up with two picks in the teens, both these guys are in the late teens in draft centrals October ratings, both sound like a great fit.

We have discussed a lot of players but Henry in particular hasn’t been mentioned.

Henry doesn't find a lot of the ball. In saying that he's a high impact player.

I don't believe Perkins has a lot of exposed form in the midfield. More of a half forward at this stage looking to progress into the midfield.

I think some of the smaller types have pushed back a bit further than they otherwise would have due to all the KPP's at the top end of the draft.

This draft has a few similarities to the 2015 draft.

In saying that, I think the quality drops off quite significantly after the first 12-15 selections. I'd rather try and keep 7 at all costs and get Saad done with 2 x 2nd rounders.

Laurie's vision is elite and execution is very impressive. Really firming in my books

If we do split pick 7 and take Saad with a late 1st, would be happy to use the other on Laurie

Zac Reid 202cm looks like an astounding Key Defender CHB or FB footy IQ speed agility skill body use...
Nic Cox 200cm KPP athletic freak speed agility duel-sided attacking Xfactor...

Thilthorpe 201cm KPF/RUCK played some SANFL senior and reserves games this year, had some ongoing groin injuries apparently, super talent and probably going by Rendell a possible chance of #1 for Adelaide being a SA boy... McDonald should be their #1 imo..

I think the Crows should bid on JUH, then take Thilthorpe, North should take McDonald

Swan should take DGB (expecting they will want another 1st rounder for a bid on Campbell by the Hawks)

Doesn’t really matter if Crows bid on JUH for #1 they are known over the years for bidding on other highly rated kids aligned to clubs for enhancing their chances they are targeting around their picks... Bidding on JDL completely takes away from their #1 spotlight... Nth Melb will bid on him anyway won’t make any difference towards their next pick anyway i would think...

That Bulldogs pick 12 will be the most highly sorted out pick by up to 8 different clubs, some chance a 3/4 club exchange of picks/players rotation possibly happening... Carl, Gee, WBD, ??

Swans will end up with a beauty, pick 3 BEST KPP then the silky Campbell most likely 8-10 then their other kid Gulden possibly top 25-30 AFL reducing lists great get...

If SOS was still around and we still hold 7 it could be hilarious. He could bid on up to 10 players tied to other clubs, causing our pick to fall to 15-18 and take 2 hours to select. GEE with 3 1st round picks could have to wait to Day2. Won’t happen but damn that would be funny.

The draft and future drafts are so compromise, and as shown above, teams like Swans will make out like bandits. I know ADE won’t do it coz of the stigma with being the 1 pick, but I would love to hold 2, you could make an absolute mockery of the AFL and their BS system. Get a list and bid on every aligned player. That’d show em.

I am coming from a needs perspective and think we need the De Goey, Greene, Walters, Ainsworth, Dev Smith, Papley, Bruest, Walters types and small/pressure forwards. The two names appear to have the qualities for these positions, I do like the sound of Macrea too.

The fact the draft has quite a few talls is good for us, as I don’t think we need these types, some other clubs may take one of these guys one or two spots higher than expected to tick a need.

If the draft drops off as you say, I’d still want us to trade down our first, as long as it wasn’t too much.

I wonder his SOS was perceived last trade period by the other clubs? Will others this year say, stuff these blokes, let’s make them pay full whack or will we go back to letting players slide back past their real value?

I hope we and others bid early on the top talent, we and others shouldn’t be standing back and letting the competition get a leg up.

I‘m sure a few people will start mentioning his name after his 5 goal haul in yesterday’s SANFL preliminary final, but for a cheap small forward pick-up, could try James Rowe (Stephen’s son). Goes at about 2 goals per game, 44.10 for the year. Seem to be some question marks over his attitude, but no reason not to speak to him. Doesn’t strike me as someone who is going to be an out and out gun, but nor does he need to be.

You can add another to the pointy end Thilthorpe

Then some names to keep an eye on

Baldwin, Callow, Lord, Brand, Johnstone

Sam Collins is another tassie boy like Callow, his intercept marking is fantastic and is a good ball user that can spot up free players very well plays a lot like Tom Stewart and has good speed as well, his coach praised the extra work he has put in since Covid to really improve his game also, is only 188cm but plays a lot taller like Stewart and holds down CHB for his team, our second round pick would be well spent on him and would add great intercept work to our back six and imo complete our backline.

Callow I love the look of and has a great pair of hands and is an old fashioned footballer that knows how to position himself well, is 194cm so not huge for a modern forward, I really like the look of all the Tassie boys this year and a couple for next year as well, we could do a lot worse than looking to Tassie.

Patrick Walker is another similar to Collins but not as good an interceptor but would be nice on a wing.

Got very confused about Sam Collins, was thinking "why TF did GC delist him after a borderline AA season?"

Then I remembered there was another Sam Collins in this draft who is also a key defender. Oops.
