Man Freo haven't got a good run recently of recruiting key forwards.

Recruited McCarthy and Hogan, spending considerable time and/or draft resources to bring them in. And losing both for nix.
Hogan gotta be nicked PingPong now.

From what I've seen he does just about everything to a real high standard, with the only knock being his height/strength.

He's being talked about as high as a late 1st round prospect but players of that height often slip so we might find ourselves in a position to capitalise on that.

I wonder where he'd be projected to go if he were 5-10cm taller.

Youtube is your friend.
There is bugger all there because there is little footage fullstop.

My kingdom for a dreary day at Preston watching Marcus Davies or Bradley Walsh

raise you jayden foster and tom (reached the centre circle) fields - saad was still there at the time I believe..........

Just waiting on LemmingMaster or anyone from WA to share their thoughts on Zac Strom and Eastlands as cheap KPP backups. Also a couple of Draftees, Shannon Neale and Michael Mallard ( this kid is of real interest)

Small forwards, there are plenty, depending on the style we might be looking at, Rowe comes to mind and a couple might want to remain under the radar for now
Arrow, which clubs do Mallard & Neale play for so I can look them up............?

On McCarthy, I’m glad the club has supposedly spoken with him, I hope we asked him to lay everything on the table and hopefully he did. He is a super talented player who I’ve seen play some really good games, there are obviously some issues getting in the way, some may be worked through and some may not but it’s worth a look.

For reference, McCarthy averages more goals and behinds per game than Curnow
Not sure that he brings anything that we shouldn’t be asking of McGovern or Jsos.
McCarthy played well at gws when he was the fourth forward. Behind Cameron, patton and lobb

Glad the club is looking for a stop gap forward. McCartin McCarthy.

Don’t want or need to enable McCarthy. AFL is just too hard for the kid, unfortunately.

Arrow or any other draft officianado, any thoughts on Phoenix Spicer. Like a slippery eel and could develop well under Eddie and Jack. Tested well and played good consistent footy in SA.

Also, Francis Watson out of Eagles. Did a knee, but as a rookie, all class.

Last also, are some teams still to delist players, especially the Premier?

Really tough kid, hard at it. Agility test at one of the combines was through the roof, 7.80 and has plenty of speed

Needs to work on his decision making/kicking, but would be of interest

We have spoken to Cam MCCarthy

Matt Parker's name has been thrown up but I'm not a huge fan, he's just an Aldi/Wish version of Dustin Martin. McCarthy would alright but I'm guessing that only happens after delisting Moore. I'm all for it, but improving our key forward set up I just don't think should be our no.1 priority right now.

Project ruck is a priority. We only have TDK and Pitt + casboult only has probably 1 year left. It was reported early on that this years draft had a lot of ruck prospects. Like others I’m hopeful for Henry Walsh more so for his name than anything else.

Small forward the other priority. We still don’t have a clear future prospect who is a small forward specialist. Honey the closest but he’s more a medium forward than a small forward.

Key Back I think we are fine for now especially if we keep Macraedie and Marchbank is injury free.

I agree that we need a ruck, but for me a key defender should be our priority. If one of Jones or Weiters were to go down, who would replace him?

Levi probably has 1 year left so we need to think long term. Marchbank? Injury prone so we can't rely on him and a bit undersized at 193cm to take on a key forward. McGovern? Wouldn't trust him on a Cameron or Hawkins type. Macreadie? Injury prone and played 9 games in 4 years. Wouldn't trust him on a big bodied key forward either. I think we either take to the draft, or pick up a short term prospect like Daw until next year.

In terms of small forwards, it is our biggest hole in the list. Enough going for draftees like Philp, Honey and Owies and time we get someone proven with multiple years already in the AFL system. Unless we magically conjured up a top 15 pick, we shouldn't target a small forward in the draft, but in a trade next year.

And we may also end up delisting Matt Kennedy as well - doesn't mean he can't football, more than being surplus to our list requirements.

You reckon other clubs wouldn't be sniffing around?

Kennedy has shown more than Dow at this point, so if there was someone to trade it would've been him. Stocker also a bit wishy washy. I get that he was away for the whole year, but I've heard rumours of attitude problems and work rate around the club. I'd leave Stocker alone, but if there was someone who was a surplus to our list requirements, it's Dow.

What happened to Walsh? i rated him highly

It may not play out but Henry Walsh just feels right at this stage.

Would also love a ready to go mature-ager as others have speculated, especially a KPD or small forward.

Yeah would be worth the list spot just to ensure Sam goes nowhere.

We don't want him going to Geelong and then at free agency time there's the 'come home and play with your brother" temptation. Thats already Gunna cost us 150k per year for Harry with north.

Plus with Kreuzer gone and TDK moving from developing ruck to first ruck, we have a spot for a young ruckmen.

They say he is an "agreesive" ruckmen which imo is one of the most important traits of a big man.

How about we look after Sam, make finals and make it so he doesn't want to leave?

Recruit his little bro only if we actually want to recruit his little bro.
