I am certain Kemp will start his career similar to Ash on HB, then progress to the middle/resting forward

I agree you can pick up KPD's later in the draft, especially lockdown ones and there are a couple that fit that bill in this year's draft
The elite ones though, draft talent and Denver is a talent! Big time. I’m with you, Arrow.

We're not going to get him, but I really want Grainger-Barass. We desperately need to replace Jones, regardless of what he can do; we either need to reduce him to his athletic intercept marking, and leave the defense to others, or to trade him ASAP.

This isn't a criticism of him, exactly. More, I do not think we can allow the coach killers he lets through with the game we are looking to play. We need to be almost universally stingy across the board behind the ball.

Without derailing this thread, I agree in regards to his coach killers and wouldn’t mind trading, but surely you couldn’t replace him with a draftee, most of which take years to cement their spot in the AFL, we don’t have this luxury, unless we brought in a ready made replacement, I don’t see it happening.

Do you not see us getting DGB because he will be gone at 7 or because we won’t have 7?

More and more I am wanting to make sure we still take 1-2 quality kids this draft, so many of our draftees the last 3 years are still unknowns, with a lot of question marks over theit talent, development and commitment.

With a very strange year, no champs football, no TAC cup, I’d love to see us turn our 3 picks this year in to 3 late 1st round picks, two late 1st rounders and an early 2nd might be more realistic but when you see what the Crows got last year for moving down two places in the order, then anything is possible.

A late first round pick could be used for Saad or Graham, with the other picks taken to the draft. Picks around 15-20 usually have good small forwards and your less flashy types.

With list cuts, I don’t see us taking many picks to the draft, so I’d like them to be as good as possible.

If we have it, I’m hoping we get Grainger-Barrass, Phillips or Hollands. Plenty of talent payer if we split picks etc, just not immediate impact players.

I don't think we'll have pick 7; if we do, he might be gone before or go within that range.

What it'd mean is that Weitering is the main man, and there's immediate pressure on Marchbank and/or Macreadie to make a go of it. You cannot just sit on a list, injuries or no injuries.

I would hope we are looking for a small forward with a late pick rookie draft
I don’t know if our recruiters had any say in Papley original recruitment but I hope they know what to look for and have a few name’s circled
Any of our draft experts have any options?

If the club succeeds in recruiting both Williams and Saad is it then possible they look at drafting a key position defender to replace Jones in a couple of years.

Williams and Saad will provide the mature runnings players we so desperately need and reduce the desperation to draft one.

With the bsos and Goddard delisted and macreadie in doubt there isn’t much backup for Jones and weitering. Marchbank doesn’t play key position. Casboult can go back l guess.

With so many highly rated key position players in this draft would we use our first rounder on one thinking he would be ready in a couple of years when Jones retires.

Agree, think we split picks and pick up the best key back in the early ish teens, need a Jones replacement in 2 to 3 years, only macreadie on the books and jury still out, marchbank i dont see as a full back

Errol Gulden, small but crafty. Swans academy but meh, have a bid.

Why not? Quality backs aren't often taken at the real pointy end of the draft with Weitering being the exception.

I didn't (and still don't) think we'll go to the draft holding the pick #7, but it may yet pan out that way and if we did DGB would be a great get for us.
I just can't get into the pure mids this year....for us. Hollands is still the player that piques my interest, most.

Fischer was taken at pick 6 just last year

Don't think we'll have pick 7, and given the suspect nature of the draft it would not surprise me if he goes top 5, given the amount of academy players and the uncertainty of picking without champs.

If we keep our 1st - Will Phillips please. Mature body inside mid. Ready to go day one.

Matt Rendell has big wraps on Will Phillips.

He described the work ethic, competitiveness and drive of Matt Rowell like no other, and then said...there’s another one in this years draft (Phillips).

Also provided the background to selecting Dangerfield and mentioned Ed Curnow aw his favourite selection ever.

This is an episode of Open Mike worth watching.
