If we retain our pick, there's definitely something there for us that fits our needs without having to reach.

Whether it be a long term replacement for Jones (Cox/DGB), Murphy's replacement (Bruhn), Ed's replacement (Phillips) or the dynamic hybrid mid/forward we're searching for (Hollands/Perkins), we're getting something we both want and need.
Handy we have so many needs

Who's this Cox I keep hearing about? I personally think we need to pick a KPD to develop to eventually take Jones' role, and since I don't think DGB will be there at 7/don't think we'll have pick 7 come draft night, Cox sounds like an interesting alternative.

I'm liking what I'm seeing, definitely has the athletic tools to be a Jones replacement, needs to add some bulk though.

Disposal needs a little bit of work from my perspective. Seems to make it hard for his teammates with a lot of his kicks. But at the same time some of his passes inside 50 were exceptional. I need to see more footage of him.

I'd need to see a full game to gauge him correctly, because highlights aren't a useful tool for scouting players like Cox. He might take 6 super impressive intercept marks a game, but also do dumb things positionally and allow easy goals, or turn the ball over unnecessarily, etc. etc. After all, if we were only going off of highlights Liam Jones would be the greatest full-back of the last decade!

Would love some more info from anyone who has seen more of him!

Too hard this year to get more scope, especially Vic players. Using both sides is a massive advantage.

Due sided Naughton? Kid will feature as a first rounder

Late first do you think? I'm warming towards trading 7 to Geelong for their two firsts, using one of them on mystery player x (Wines, Merrett, whoever we're linked with come trade week) and the other on Cox.

I still really, really like DGB though and feel like he's the much safer pick. I'm happy rolling the dice on Cox at this stage though.

As you say, I would only trade back if we have a target in mind

Our 1st and 3rd for:

Cats 15 & 16

Or

Lions 18 & 19

Otherwise take DGB, Phillips, Macrae in that order

Held accountable you mean?

Losing your job over that/those comments without a chance to give context or explain what you meant, is excessive imo. Was not the best choice of words.

The story is a bit strange, as to why it took so long for the comments to come out or be shared at all.

Agree on the valuation of Phillips, looks like he'll be top 3 at this point.

Being dual-sided by foot is an overrated skill in our game. It's being able to handball from both sides of the body that is key.

That being said the kid looks solid, sort of a Dustin Fletcher clone, but he also looks like he's going to take 5 years until he can be relied upon as a senior defender. Not top 10 material, probably not top 20 either.

If Jones has 3-4 years left in him, do we back Cox to be ready in 4 years or just have a cheap stop-gap between the two?

Laughable opinions on here. Perspective, the vision you watched was his underage year, they haven't bloody played this year. Over a year of development
in his most formative years since already. Will need two years. How long does Jones (and Levi) have left. Everyone still sprouting on needs, our biggest need
to plan for is this KPD unless we are relying on two games a year from Macreadie or undersized Marchy to man the Kings and Charlie Dixon. Will take a
couple of years, but would rather a quality player than a stop gap journeyman down the track.

We can get mids etc through trade and/or free agency if we don't trust the development of our kids(I do more than most on here). Small forwards are a very swift turnaround, plenty even play effectively year one. Need another ruck too, but a second or third rounder would suffice for a decent one. If anyone thinks
Cox or Zac Reid are making it to the second round, they are kidding themselves. Grainger-Barras getting more press, but I am sure mobile 200cm defenders with skills will be at a premium.

Think of Cox as your dream blend of Gibbons & Newman that's been injected with human growth hormone. You'll love him.

Instead of trading our pick 7 for 2 later first round picks with the idea of bringing in 2 'possible ' best 22 types, I'd rather we kept it for either:

A - A top notch kid OR
B - Direct capital for an A grade mid.

A good kid in the top bracket. I'm no expert but I'm sure we could find one at 7? Otherwise use 7 to help acquire the gun-type mid we need.

Could we not do something like Arr0w suggested and trade 7+* for Geelong's two firsts? Then we could get a ready made mid and a top-notch kid.

Of course. And that would be awesome if we could swing it. But I'd be happy to say use our 7 to help nab someone like Taranto etc... Or one of these top kids mentioned frequently on here like Philips of Bruhn?

I'd wager Taranto would cost more than pick 7, so if he requested a trade to us I'd assume we'd trade 7 and * to Geelong for their two firsts, use one of those firsts and a future first/second (whatever is required) on Taranto, whilst still keeping a first round selection this year.

We might use 7 to pick Bruhn, but I would be shocked to see Phillips still on the board at 7. Seen by most as a top 3 prospect with JUH and McDonald.
