Carroll is an interesting one and I agree should go earlier, but others are moving up the order

Small forwards at that range, Corey Durdin and Seamus Mitchell
Richmond's 1st rounder will most likely drift to 21/22 and i would not be too disappointed to pickup Carroll with that pick, There are some that think he will go higher

Levi will have to play forward with Charlie out, even so, if two of Jones, Weitering Levi go down, kiss goodbye to finals

You can still draft a young tall and take a DFA
Normally I would agree with you 100%. This year I am not so sure. Despite all of the bleatings about the list, we have had a couple very unlucky to be delisted already. It is pretty much a consensus here that we need a ruck developing (or mature insurance), an x-factor small forward, and to get a KPD/utility, preferably ready to go as back up in a beak glass situation.

Next year delistings will be even harder, and there will be some chance that the AFL will cut further. The majority want us to trade for or preferably acquire a free agent "A-grade" midfielder. We need to add the missing pieces as soon as possible. If we have the choice of "wasting" picks on stop gap journeyman or taking a potential long term speculative type, I think I may be inclined to look at the speculative.

Looking like 3 ND picks available and one rookie. Do we use them all straight up? Do we leave a pick in reserve to draft during the mooted opportunities through the year? Do we consider injuries to Charlie and possibly Kemp will allow enough scope to pick up a player who may "jump up" early in the NAB competition or VFL replacement league? Do we keep our powder dry for next year or trade, say, a future second to get a higher rated type? It is a bloody intriguing year.

The only players evident in our draft range as KPP are the athletic types Kolar, specked on here or Eyre, who is * academy, but one may be worth a shot.
How many games have Goddard, Macreadie and BSOS played as KPD back up in the last couple of years? Less than the fingers on one hand (thinking 3).
Surely we can concoct a combination from our borderline KPP/third tall types to make do.

I would love to lock away a decent small forward (plenty of candidates in this draft, but thinking semi mature Rowe might be on our radar) and a developing ruck, we have had the debate ad nauseum, I am locking in Walsh. An athletic and versatile young tall may just be a better option than a mature back up KPD (BTW the debate on best mature back up for me is over with St Kilda delisting Jono Marsh who is strong and athletic and can play either end, not as tall as I would like but best option for me). Our need for quality young talls brings me back to the recovering Joshua Cripps as a rookie. Was a tidbit during last year where big brother alluded to not being the best in the family, with the youngster a chance to steal his thunder. I can't get over the fact that him being chosen as captain ahead of McDonald and O'Driscoll at Aquinas College as being a pointer to his scope. May just be the perfect Levi replacement KPP/2nd ruck. May not be attainable on the open market if he plays some footy late next year. I do realise it is hard to draft LTI types with list reductions, but if we take a break glass back up who ends up not being needed, it is a bigger waste.

So many things for our list management team to consider, it is intriguing.

Walsh and TDK could work in tandem as both seem to be quite athletic. I'm not sure of Walsh's forward craft just yet but he is a lot more mobile than Pitt.
If Walsh could show similar fwd potential to TDK it could be a great partnership.
Pitt unfortunately is to immobile that he can only play ruck and is a liability forward
When in 4 years time? We need to fill needs and reach finals now. Sounds like we will be developing Walsh for Geelong's benefit in 3 or 4 years- Sam Jacobs Mark 2.0

Feel like both Cox and Macrae would have been perfect for us...unfortunately both will be well gone by then.

My YouTube recruiting suggest that Cox will be the best player to come out this years draft..I can’t get over how good his kicking skills are on both sides of his body. Then add pace and running capacity at 199cm...geez!

I would acquire a DFA KPD, as pure insurance, I don't care about the name.

Take a ruck/forward and one of Winder, Durdin/Mitchell

I would leave a spot free for the mid season draft

Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Wouldn't mind seeing Teague play a smaller forward line. Not sure we need three tall forwards.

The only team I can remember to win a flag of late with three tall forwards was WCE. The fact that they won means I can't say it won't work for us, but I think we all need to keep in mind that Collingwood entered that Grand Final with no KPD's. Their defense was:

Crisp Langdon Maynard
Varcoe Goldsack Howe

It was always going to be difficult for them to curtail the influence of Kennedy, Darling and one of Lycett and Vardy resting forward with that undersized defense. Had Moore been playing, the game probably would have gone the other way.

Bottom line, I'm not convinced three talls holds up in finals anymore. Hopefully we use this opportunity to play smaller, agile ground level players.

2 KPF's and a 3rd tall or resting ruck that is a capable forward

Nic Cox and Zac Reid are going to be steals imo they are the exact KPD’s types our list needs, pity we can’t draft a developing future 200cm and 202cm athletic quick skillful defender like one of them, very unique types..
With the size and athleticism of the 200cm plus KPF’s in the comp particularly young ones coming through, our list will need to acquire a similar type, either to develop or trade in within the next 2seasons...

Both very unique?

It’s their athletic package and foot skills you rarely get with players at 200cm plus on top of being very good footballers...
They possess excellent speed and agility for players of their size, they both are superb kicks particularly Cox who kicks both feet...

Cox also has midfielder like endurance

Great tank... Has played forward as well, interviewed on SEN spoke very well for a young lad was asked where he see’s himself playing and said as a key defender...

If he was still on the board at GWS's 2nd pick (doubtful) I would offer our future 1st as an exchange

Interesting.. I’d probably do that for one of them myself, that’s how highly i rate them but just can’t see the club doing it, think they have one possibly two big fishes lined up for next year...

Quite possibly our chances for a FA next year have diminished with the sliding doors moment which was Treloar.
Collingwood have a pretty good war chest now so we'll at least have to outbid them for any targets, let alone the other challenges.

Will be interesting to compare value of Saad to say Nick Cox in 5-6 years time.

We have drafted for the now for a player that is in his prime and provides us with speed and rebound, something we lack and are crying out for...
It’s not really a fair comparison that deserves to be judged, both are separate cases altogether, as much as Saad will help transform and impact our game style, it will be very intriguing with just how good a player Cox could possibly be in that timeframe...

Think the Pies salary cap is fairly tight SB, not sure they have a war chest, players they have moved on this trade period have only just released enough pressure cap wise for the now...
I have no clue on how much we might have but i would quess with maybe with Murph Betts retirements a few others delisted we might have enough for one more very good player...
A lot depends on our own 3-6yrs players stepping up, has a big impact on who we pursue...

Did my first armchair analysis of the top end draft prospects today watching YouTube highlights along with my limited viewing of their bottom age footy previously. My takes:

JUH is by far and away the best talent with huge scope and would be 100% pick 1 in an open draft. It’s a travesty that a top 8 side gets access to a player like this. The AFL is a joke.

Hollands and McDonald should be selected by Crows/North depending on preferences.

Would be shocked if the Swans passed on Grainger-Barass which leaves the Hawks most likely with Thilthorpe or whoever drops out of that bunch. Standout top 5 in my opinion. Thilthorpe is a weird prospect, I feel like he has great attributes but he also looks like a lumbering ruck type.

Phillips has great skills but I have my doubts as to whether he will excel at AFL level due to his size and style of play. No doubt will be a handy player and may fit in nicely at Gold Coast with his Oakleigh Charger mates Rowell and Anderson.

Bombers will get the next three picks which I can see being Perkins, Reid and one of Bruhn/Macrae/Henry. The latter three we probably traded away a chance at getting which I’m not overly concerned about given our stocks.

Cox looks a good prospect but I feel that he will slide into the teens at least. Just too raw and will take at least 3 years to be ready for AFL which is a big investment considering the list size cuts.

Bring on Pick 38!
