Stupid question I am sure, but are draft points set pre draft or are they floating post academy selection. At the moment 31 and 38 is worth more draft points that Richmond's 17, but coming up to pick 17. 31 and 38 are likely to blow out and be less points.

31 and 38 isn't enough to move up the board to pick 17.

Always a substantial premium paid to move up the board.

Just hope we don't trade our future first for it.

If Richmond think Kolar will get to 31 I think they’ll jump at it. Only issue is they probably don’t need three live selections let alone three in the early 30s. Rioli will be snapped up for peanuts and they like to hold a rookie spot open.

Something like 31 and a future 2nd for 17 and a future 3rd seems more likely. I hope the kid is worth it.

Powell and Macrae sound the best midfielders in the open pool. Poulter has a little spice about him, which I like. But like others, I don't like to think about what a move up would cost.

Mainly joking mate, but who knows given Austin hasn't had to preside over a draft as yet.

I'm wondering if there might be a top end Vic prospect in that kind of range who might slip through: Macrae, Cox, Reid etc.

No issue with a kid saying he won’t perform at his best under certain circumstances.

This is different to refusing to go somewhere.

Would have also thought that clubs would want to know this in advance so not to use a pick up on a kid that genuinely doesn’t want to be somewhere.

I would for Cox, if he was still on the board at GWS's first pick, which would be 12 or 13

I'm a bit skeptical on this if it plays out the way we think it will (trading future first).

We either needed to commit to trading our future first for Saad to take pick 8 to the draft, or trade pick 8 and accept not having a first rounder this year.

Just feels like we're devaluing all our draft currency.

If we kept pick 8, I'm not convinced we would be chasing Powell. It's a dangerous strategy to adopt because sliders are sliders for a reason. Also, we'll be taking all the risk in the trade.

Most likely just two players.

Sounds like we might be trying to trade up the order though.

If we kept pick 8, I'm not convinced we would be chasing Powell. It's a dangerous strategy to adopt because sliders are sliders for a reason. Also, we'll be taking all the risk in the trade.

We certainly had the benefit of that last year.

Where is the intel on Powell though? Sound like we are keen to add to our midfield, and I like the number of quality mids that'll slip through (how is Macrae not an obvious top 10 pick with his IQ?), and Richmond's pick sits in a pot we may even be able to grab someone like Bruhn or Henry if we're fortunate.

It's the kind of open slather pool that'll produce some genuine opportunities to grab a gun if you play your cards right.

Maybe even someone like Perkins will get through?
