Nice one centurian.![]()
We would move on ABS and I agree our playing list has the potential to be brilliant, but you keep on bringing up and trying to revise the past![]()
Elliott did not bend the rules he broke them. Other clubs broke the rules as well, but we were by far the worst.
The suburban ground as a concept was dead so no matter who approved it building the Legends stand was a mistake and is now a major millstone around our neck. Both their view on PP and the salary cap was evidence that they were still living in a bygone era rather than adapting to the times.
At a football club you should never just have a plan A. Under Elliott we could only keep our head above water as long as we stayed very successful on-field. It is always easier to generate revenue when you are winning, but Elliott had put us in the position that if we started to lose we would lose money hand over fist.
Lets examine why our team fell apart. It was Elliotts recruiting policy of not rebuilding that failed to regenerate our side and left it a brittle shell when he left. Under Big Jack we were not just a little bit over the salary cap we were 1.2 million overHow do you think it would have impacted on morale with the players having to take paycuts. We were also forced to offload players to try and get under the salary cap. Don't underestimate the need to get under the cap in why we had to get rid of players. There is also the little thing of draft penalties

Even if we take out everything else, Big Jack was a prime reason for our on-field problems![]()
Moving to the "G" rather than Telstra still wouldn't have helped us as our on-field performance was so poor we would have been losing money every game. Moving to the "G" would not have helped our social club, because as I have conceded the Collins regime didn't have a plan to keep it healthy. So the "G" or Telstra would not have made a difference with that aspect of our plight. The "G" was only viable if we stayed powerful on-field and the previous regime had ensured that we couldn't![]()
I think the part of your post that I have highlighted indicates why you have been pushing this lineI couldn't agree more that we need a United board and a united club, but I think the ousted powerbrokers from the old regime need to remember that as well. They still seem to have big axes to grind and are out to settle old scores rather than work towards the success of the CFC that they profess to love.
:
It was inevitable that we would eventually leave Optus, but I would much preferred to have done it the way Essendon did, rather than have to go cap in hand to the AFL and TD.
Pity we didn't have the foresight to move when they did rather than build the Legends Stand.

How do they throw their weight behind Smorgan and call for unity, yet are endorsed by Fraser Brown?Jim Wilson said:They (ref to new board members Stephen Moulton and Mark Harrison) have thrown their support behind president Graham Smorgon and declared unity is the only way forward for the embattled club.
Moulton and Harrison have also revealed they'll generate revenue streams of $1 million from their extensive business networks if they are successful in the coming elections.
The pair are heavily aligned with club legend Stephen Kernahan and fellow director Adrian Gleeson, and they have been endorsed by 1995 premiership heroes Greg Williams and Fraser Brown - who want change at board level.
So we were led to believe during the week that Smorgan has done a backflip in not decreasing the board numbers, when it appear it was never his idea anyway.Damian Barrett and Jim Wilson said:THE Carlton board went against the recommendations of an AFL-commissioned consultant's findings in increasing its number of directors to 12.One facet of a report compiled by Jim Watts, a former St Kilda chief executive employed by the AFL to analyse the Blues' plight, urged the club to reduce board numbers to as few as six.
Can anyone explain this to me (appealing to the "insiders" or anti-Smorgan lobyists)
How do they throw their weight behind Smorgan and call for unity, yet are endorsed by Fraser Brown?
2 months ago we were all led to believe (for those who chose to believe) that these two things were mutually exclusive.
Are they lying, or have the media and supposed inside sources got it wrong from the start.
Where is the "Brown's Backflip" headline.......or does that not serve "our" (media + insiders) purpose?![]()
Please explain (in best P. Hansen voice)

You quote my exact point and if you need any proof have a look at what happened to Brisbane this year. They have a loss of over $1million. That's what happened in 2002/3 and doesn't mean we were broke. We could have traded on and survived.
However, Collins got in and magnified the matter for his own interests. In addition he managed to alienate most of our powerful supporters and benefactors. Hence the campaign to get rid of him and install Smorgan, look at what that has led us to!
It was inevitable that we would eventually leave Optus, but I would much preferred to have done it the way Essendon did, rather than have to go cap in hand to the AFL and TD.
Collins was a bloody disaster and by the looks of it Smorgan has not done much better. Let's hope 2007 brings some better news and, if it means a new board with Tom Elliot and the backing of Brown and some well, moneyed backers/supporters it can only mean we are getting some good people back and the good times will not be that far away. If Smorgan can produce the same then I will back him to the fullest.
I am a paid up member and intend to vote at the EGM, I hope you are the same.

Yes Druss, my point is at no time should we belive anything that the media or the "insiders who post here are saying. As HBF has observed, there is so much daily rubbish regarding this that only time will tell.
As it has done here, it would appear that things we were told are not what they seem. I for one am shocked (not). To those intending on voting, make sure you do it for things you know and understand, not for reason that you have been fed.

People should make up their own minds and not be led around with a nosering. Not sure how what I have written bolsters your case. Although you do seem good at seeing what you want to see![]()
Not adverse to the odd exaggeration yourself mate, a loss of just under a mill does sound a bit better than "They have a loss of over a million" It is all in the wording what![]()
Even at that rate it will still take them twelve years to rack up the debt Big Jack left us with. Comparing us to a Club in a non-footballing state with all their unique challenges is probably not a fair one anyway. They also don't have the millstone of a previous board totally misjudging the marketplace by investing in a white ElelphantOh nearly forgot..draft penalties. Hoping repetition gets through

Did Collo alienate the powerful supporters or did these so called supporters take their bat and ball..or more importantly their money home because their mates had been shown to be cheats and were turfed out? Collo made mistakes, but he made them trying to fix up the mess left by Big Jack![]()
So much about our club now is all about payback. So many people seem more interested in settling grudges rather than helping the club and that is all sides.
I am frankly frustrated that I am going to have to choose between a duffer and a ticket backed by those who are the main reason we are where we are, but who still deny they were in the wrong. The devil and the deep blue sea![]()
