All depends what rebuilding options Carlton uses
# Cash in players with value for draft picks
# Build around a core group of players

Would Carlton be better off trading Matthew Kreuzer or building the team around him considering Parkin's comments?

Free Agent, so let him leave. Can't build around him, so hopefully they do.

Bolt seems like a decent fella, but he has no idea what he's just taken on.

Coaching the Hawks to 5&0 while Clarko was laid up looked good for his resume but with all due respect Clarko's missus could have done that with this great Hawks team.

Captain obvious could tell you Carlton will need to trade out/delist the majority of its list, grab a bucket load of decent picks and pray to the lord that they don't turn out to be duds. The relative quick success of Port, Bullies (and to a lesser extent the Saints) has got people thinking a new coach will turn this ship around in no time.. IMO a three year contract is no where long enough to see this rebuild through.

Parkin is 100% correct and Carlton have little currency with which to trade, they will settle for 2nd round picks for B grade players up for grabs.

Let go in free agency - Kreuzer, Henderson
Trade - Gibbs, Walker, Yarran and Jamison

You can tell yourself you're going to get Hendo for a second rounder all you want. That doesn't mean it's actually going to happen.

Shane Rogers and Wayne Hughes were rank and hurt the club with the work they did

You understand yeah, they were not going to be competitive for a while when they brought in Malthouse, from the inside, outside and about the 1 in 10 of mainboard posters who didn't have brain damage they had a lot of dead wood on the list

So they started a cull, Which yeah they needed to do no problem with that

however, bringing in Liam Jones who couldn't hold down a KPP spot at the freaking bulldogs who were in more despirate need of a leading marking target? 3 freaking years? Jason Tutt? I'll also go on record to say while the trade to GWS was a good idea in theory to maybe get 2 players who could contribute and hang on to a pick around 20, they netted two average players for a high pick who need a bit of work in the VFL then netted a bloke out of nowhere with the return pick. Boekhurst was a second/third round pick, very raw and a gamble, something you do with later picks. a kind of swing to the fences without really anyone looking to take the punt untill the end of the draft

Daisy was a gamble which didn't pay off, can't lay the boots for that one. If he got to 70% of his ability at collingwood it's a solid investment for a young rebuilding team. He's had a putrid run, They really need him to get up and show on-field leadership

The mixture of the list is strange, surely Warnock should of gone a few years ago. They had to pick up Cameron wood because they two ruckmen on the list are injured for a good third of the season on average. They need to net about 4 first round picks and hunt a bloke like Carlisle in the PSD

I'ld also be fishing for blokes like Jenkins, Clarke from freo for basement prices. Just becauyse they could contribute for maybe 1-2 years before some new draftee's are ready to take over

And trade Gibbs/Murphy? They sevearly lack on-field leaders, Lets not go full melbourne, the 25-30 Y.O output for the next 5 years is far greater then freaking 3 late first rounders. If i was Bolton and they traded Murphy/Gibbs ild be walking straight out

For sure, Henderson might get you a good pick, If Kruezer gets 500k+ and more then 2 years let him walk, Trade Yarran and look at everyone, But you dont trade the leaders in Jamison/Murphy/Gibbs, What else do you want to do? Make a teenage Cripps who's still learning to play football suddenly captain?

You know your list is rubbish when you have crabs like Warnock, Wood, Ellard, Curnow, Jones, Tutt and whoever else I've forgot to mention. The recruiting department needs an overhaul that's for sure.

Carlton should be aiming for 4 picks in the first 20-30 for each of the 2015, 2016 and 2017 drafts

Henderson, Kreuzer, Yarran all have some currency

The last time they finished at the bottom for a few years they nailed their first pick, but screwed up the rest of them

If they can get it right this time they'll be back in the finals in 2019

Is anyone surprised by this statement? At least Melbourne turned it around quickly, hopefully they can use Cripps as a good foundation for a solid midfield, taking over from squibs like Murphy and Gibbs.

When did Melbourne turn it around?

They're the rabble that just lost to Carlton.

Yep, they should trade out all the players they got with their last batch of top 20 picks to get more top 20 picks.

What could possibly go wrong!

This line is reeled out most years, heard it with Melbourne, Port, Richmond etc.

We'll be right, in Bolts we trust :thumbsu:
It only takes about 18 months to turn the majority of your list over too. If a rebuild is done right, it takes the same amount of time as it would for any other club.
