Great performance against a full strength Hawthorne side.
Our midfield as usual cleaned up with argualby the best center line unstopable.
Pavlich showed the champion he is going to be while Carr and Bandy dominated in the backline

OOOOOOO YEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

I THINK ITS TIME FOR A LITTLE RESPECT

Hey sabre. Good win. Surprised you didn't mention Cook there. For mine he was easily the player of the first half. I don't want to take anything away from your win, because in the first half at least you were the equal of any side in the comp. But don't get the idea that Hawthorn's performance today is in any way representative of a real football team.

We were trying. We were trying very hard. But our skills at the moment are deplorable. Some of it was due to the pressure you applied. But mostly it was simply sloppy and lazy.

Obviously we had no winners on the day. But I think without Hay at full back we might have had 20 goals scored on us.

I'm a bit depressed. I'm having visions on the middle of '97.

Strange stats for a winning side though !!!!!!!!

Freo Hawthorn
196 Kicks 181
85 Marks 85
87 Handballs 139
17 Tackles 21
6 Centre Clearances 13
23 Free Kicks 15

Big deal, Fremantle is still the crapiest side ever. Sabre, Fremantle don't deserve any respect until they can do that over a whole season not just one Ansett Cup game.

Many positives came out of the game.Sadly even if we beat Richmond next week we probally wont get into the final.

We enearthed a very good marking and good leading forward in schell.Has all the makings of a 70 goal a year player.

Pavlich still only 19 managed to play on and beat a premire back man in croad.Pavlich is big and extremely stong, you be luckly to find a player able to move him.

Cook is becoming one of the best mid field players in the league. Fletcher continues to impress, he was the one that set it up for us in the beggining. And hasebly continues to show the his talents as an in and under player while he can take a good mark and a extremely accurate kick.

Black gave good drive from the backline, and has finally found his place. While carr was also dominant on the 5 goal deputont Mc Pherson. Parker shut down the dangerous dixon and Bandy while on Holland shut him out of the game.

Special mention should go to the rookis list player (mental block) who impressed and simpson who looks the goods.

Now that walker needs to lift his game and live up to his potential. Even better news if that waterhouse our top forward is to come back to strengthen that half forwardline.Waterhouse will improve even more with Pavlich holding down centerhalf forward. This along with the return of our main backman Brown and eventually Micheal paints a ver rosey picture for the fremantle side.

LOL
that coming from an Adelaide side who is looking at a bottom 2 place.

Or are you a Port supporter now?

Sabre, I have only been a Port supporter for the last 25 years.

Had the "privilege" of seeing the last three quarters on C7. Freo were grouse in Q2, although I don't think I've seen a worse performance of any side in a quarter than that of Hawthorn (and that includes some wretched Royboy debacles).

The second half would be best forgotten by both camps.

Plenty of plusses for Freo on the night overall though. Justin Longmuir and Matthew Pavlich look to have developed significantly; Matthew Carr and Dwayne Simpson could be excellent pick-ups and Troy Cook has carried over his form from 2000.

I'm still tippin' 'em for the spoon though!

Looking at that free kick count reminds me: footy is still a contact sport, isn't it?

If the only requirement to earn a free kick is to get in front and then fall over (and the evidence tonight suggests it is), Matty Lloyd oughta have a 150 goal year.

A few points-

Respect must be earned over more than one game. Even over more than one season. Adelaide earned back-to-back flags, the only AFL side ever to have done so, and quite apparently even that is not enough to have earned them respect. Freo are light years away from respect yet.

Carb70 is a Port supporter and always has been.

Freo and Saints and even Magpies all have a far better prospect at being bottom two sides than does Adelaide. All of those three have been in that territory quite often before in the AFL, Adelaide have never been in the bottom two.

freo is finally coming over the stupidity of neeshams recruiting, (recruit the old with 1 yr left for top 5 draft picks) he was a genious, getting bond for the #2 pick, ond played for 2 yrs, wow, they lost ottens for that, they could have had croad, how smart of them
the reason they have preformed so badly over the last few years is because of these setbacks by neesham, they lost about 5 REALLY good potential players for old guys who mostly retired after 2-3 years. although giving up so much for bell wasnt too smart either

Freos midfield won that game, the first half they played really well, then the 2nd half it was a matter of who would make the most mistakes. Pavlich will be the best player to come out of the 99 draft, better than haselby/fraser, big fast and quite agile strong chf'ds dont come around often

Eagles~~

We watched the whole match. Freo were the fitter side by far. They ran for everything.I wonder if thats due to Charlesworth.
Hawthorns skills were appalling.I like the look of Simpson, would love him in a Lions jumper.
Good to see Fletch proving the Brisbane brains trust wrong, he still is a legend.

We are talking about a round 2 round robin Ansett Cup game arent we? Me thinks people on this board have been starved of footy too long, Not March yet people, still thinking Pura Cup and Vic Bushrangers, lets just wait at least 'till the start of the real thing before we crown the Dockers Kings.

Whoa whoa whoa, the 'full strength' lines a little out of context Sabre.

Bateman,Loats,Hazell,,Nicholls,
Johnson,Vandenburg and even Mcpharlin arent in the Hawks best 22 (yet). I still dont think much of Pavilich, one good quarter, eight possies for the game (three of those from frees) still, he is only a kid yet.

Ah well winners are grinners but maybe this was a wake up call the Hawks needed.

Need a drink now......

sorry dude but youre wrong there. We werent full strength, we had key players such as Glen Bowyer, Shaun Rehn and Lance Picione out of the side. IT might not sound like much but those guys do make a difference.

I think Fremantle could be a bit of a surprise packet this year if injuries don't play too much of a factor. They've got a good, solid midfield and a group of bright young prospects, who if they fully develop their talent, could form the base of a Fremantle side that will may well cause other team's headaches over the next few years.
Fremantle look more solid now that they have in their short history and can't be overlooked for a possible spot in the top eight.

Im beggining to understand what the Pies supporters felt like.

Doesnt matter still stoked with the victory. And too all the Hawks supporter, there is no excuse you can make. You were missing no one of any importance.Dockers were missing there number one forward and ruckman. So there goes that idea out the window, you came over to win and didnt.
You were beaten by a better side on the night, grin and bear it.

And I still think were going to finish in or around the 8.Nothing to marvellous just yet, not for a few years anyway.

Great win Freo. I expected the hawkers to win without much effort - they obviously thought that too.

Funny how the media was describing it as a 26-point thrashing - what constitites a thrashing ? would 18 points be a thrashing ?

But it's along flight home from WA and plenty of bred rolls to be eaten.

I was surprised by the result, but it is the Ansett Cup which is not taken too seriously. It certainly opens up their group with Richmond and Melbourne on one win as well.
