Caroline Wilson - Talking Footy

This is a main board issue, but I just thought Caro might need at least some home ground advantage ...

I visited our small collective of friends on the Kangaroos board and noticed that Caroline Wilson received ... err ... mixed reviews there for Talking Football.

I must confess that I missed the show, partially because I kind of mixed up the Monday-Tuesday change, but I wonder what others think of her performance.

Now, our royal blue and white friends believe they are being persecuted by Wilson (as they are by all other elements of the media, and by the worldwide conspiracy, and by Fabian Socialists, and by the League of Rights, etc.), so they may be a little biased.

What do others think?

As a football journalist, I don't think she is terrible - certainly no worse than Sh!te Mike anyway.

Looks? Well, again, compared to Sh!te Mike or Malcolm Blight or Bruce - call me a bit biased, but if the choice were limited to those three, it wouldn't be too hard a decision for me.

I'm not terribly fond of Caroline Wilson's political correctness crusade from her 3AW days, but I don't think that side of her is especially evident in her football writing.

Anyway, I will watch next week regardless and form my own opinion.

Her looks are actually irrelevent - what really matters is that we accept/reject her comments based entirely on merit. Anything less is really just undermining our own intelligence.

I got home from Uni just after 10.30 so missed the start.

I don't think she mentioned anything that contained any startling new insights or that was patently bad. Just opened the batting with a good straight bat!

My only criticism was that she seemed a little unsure of herself. She would ask a question / make a statement, particularly to Mick Malthouse and then would see the need to quickly jump in and qualify what she said. This maybe attributed to first game nerves?

All up, maybe a 7/10 for her performance with scope for improvement that will come with confidence.

(Next week I will try and count the times that Robert Walls says the word 'terrific'!)

Also it is freaky listening to the song that has been changes to 'It's Tuesday night, we're talking Footy')

Just doesn't sound right!

I hear what you are saying, but the North board has made Wilson's looks an issue.

You gave Wilson a rating - what about the other two? (Comparison)

Caroline was doomed before she even began on the North board - objectivity had long gone!

Robert Walls was terrific and I would give him an 8/10.

Bruce was special - I'll give him 9.5/10. Then again, I have always liked Bruce, so maybe a bit biased!

I thought she looked very nervous. Possibly a little too much Richmond talk to begin with but they did suspend two players for the issue they were discussing.

The only other thing on was MM and she asked a couple of good questions but didn't follow anything up. I think the first game nerves call is probably a good one and overall I think she was a bit quiet. I think she will get better and probably be ok.

On the looks front, thank god my employer doesn't judge me on that. I'd have been out the door long ago. Fortunately he judges me on the important things, like the quality of my posts here

Bruce has always annoyed me a bit, but I reckon that Robert Walls is very good at analysing the game.

It is just a shame that he didn't work out as a coach at Richmond, but I won't hold that against him.

Overall, I think they should have considered Tim Lane. Even taking into account his maddening Carlton bias, I think he is very good.

Just thinking my scales of judgement might have been a bit generous for them - maybe give them 6/10 and 7/10 each.

Walls needs to work the word terrific into the conversation more!

Gee guys, you are being a bit generous.

Carolyn Wilson was clearly nervous at her Talking Footy debut but she did seem a little unsure of herself. Whether she is intimidated by the testosterone on the show or perhaps the fact that people like Robert Walls have had so much time in the game is uncertain, but she did seem to lack confidance. But like you said CJH, it is her first time, perhaps by round 20 we wont be able to shut her up.

As for Walls. He puts me to sleep everytime he opens his mouth. He lacks emotion. No wonder he didn't do any good at Richmond, a club oozing with emotion. Walls is a good analyser of the game however, I just have to try to stay awake long enough to hear them.

And Bruce... He is just clever. A very special host..... Great to have him back, at least for the next 5 or 6 months anyway.

Wasn't a bad show, but I miss the niggly agro that Mike always created. I also missed the Sunday footy show. Did he make an idiot of himself again??

They weren't any subtitles at the bottom of the screen so I couldn't understand what she was saying, but other than that, and her clothing, and her Richmond bias, and...of course...her looks she was...O...O...O...no forget it, she was god damn awful.

It's interesting that the three people whose opinion I respect the least are all together on the one show, so it's an easy decision to give it a miss. If they throw in Rohan Connolly, it would not even require a decision.
And regardless of the political corectness, she has a head like a robber's dog. On TV ? What were they thinking ?
