It strikes me that Ms. Wilson cops more than her fair share of sh*t here. Nobody seems to attract peoples wrath quite as much as her. Why is this? I don't read of people laying into Sheehan, or Patrick Smith in quite the same way. Although Crows fans seem to have a special place in thier hearts for Michaelangelo Rucci.
Could this be because she is a woman in this most masculine of sports?

Her bias against certain teams is what annoys me, not the fact that she is a woman.

Plus she makes some ridiculous statements "Andrew MacDougall is a Ruck-man" for instance.

Typical to her profession, can't be bothered with facts if they spoil a good story, and unable to put personal biases aside in her judgements.

I think she hits a raw nerve pretty often with her analysis ntoo. People forget that she is very well connected and most of her stories are spot on. WCE culture issue is a perfect example.

I consult to about 5-6 corporates based in Perth and going out a fair bit during my trips there. The WCE players running amok was common knowledge amongst the clients & friends I know. Many people knew who, many people knew the club protected them and TBH nobody really cared as long as the side was winning. Caro went public with it and was on the money, as she often is.

All of a sudden all these WCE supporters blindly assume some sort of eastern media conspiracy, which is of course absolutley ridiculous. Caro is usually the reporter abused... easier than admitting she was actually right.

Another good example is the St Kilda process of appointing Cornflakes Thomas. She knew the process was a farce, reported as such and was widely abused for it. We then find out this year she was right on the money again, and Thomas basically did appoint himself coach.

My only gripe about her is giving Richmond an easy ride. They have been the worst side in the past 25 years but she won't utter a bad word about the club or conga line of moronic administrations.

I'm sure there are any number of articles that can be dredged up that begin with 'The Age believes', with a lot of them having their introductions followed by 'The Kangaroos are in trouble/off to the Gold Coast/having dramas at board level etc.'

Caro (amongst others) reported that there are off field problems at West Coast. Well done, 10 points. What next? Sky is blue, grass is green? Writing something that West Coast fans are unlikely to want to read doesn't automatically make all criticism from West Coast fans about the quality of her journalism unjustified.

Caro is probably the best football journo imo. I have no idea why she copes so much critiscism but i have an inkling it may have something to do with gender. People come out with the old "what would she know she has never played football" but the same can be said for half of the journo's who write on the AFL. Patrick Smith is the one who gets my goat! If anyone ever wants to find the meaning for sensationalism all you have to do is read one of his articles.

I don't mind Caro at all and I am appalled at how quickly any criticism of her work becomes a personal attack on her looks around here. Anyone who resorts to that as a form of attack on her has zero credibility IMO. Attack the ball not the woman as far as I'm concerned. Caro does fine. Did you watch her this year with Lyon, Duck and Huddo? I reckon she got stuck into Richmond as much or more than any other team. Clearly she has issues with the on and off field performances of the club and is not afraid to vent them. I agree with you that she has the best contacts in the game. It is interesting when she obviously had some of the guests stumped with what she knew and you could tell that they were wondering how the hell she knew what she did. Obviously she is well respected amongst many clubs to an extent as she has a lot of close contacts and friends from within the close confinds of certain clubs.

Nope, Caro was spot on with her references to WCE in the two articles you posted links to. At that stage WCE were out of control and the administration was in denial.

West Coast still just doesn't get it. The club has a footballer on its list who nearly died six months ago and all evidence suggests that nothing would have been done if the story hadn't made its way into the media.

She was right... maybe WCE get it more now.

But West Coast's behaviour indicates that it continues to struggle with its social responsibility. Surely the club will do more than simply close ranks against the football community and anyone else who criticises it.

No one wants blood from the reigning premier, but certainly the AFL would like to see a philosophical shift in the manner in which the Eagles accept responsibility for off-field behaviour by their players. At the moment the Eagles' credo appears to be "us against them".

They are flaunting their disregard for the community that supports them just as, in the recent past, key team members flaunted their drug and alcohol problems.

Perhaps all they are about is the next flag. If so, good luck to them. They may be the best team in the competition but are winning few friends in the process. Not that they seem to care.

She is not fair and balanced, she has agendas, she is emotionally attached to issues which clouds her judgment and weakens her articles, thus making her defensive and thus another bitter retaliatory article is written. So goes the 'caro-cycle'

Exactly! It is no coincedence that almost all of the people who have negative things to say about her are weagles supporters. I also read both of those articles in which the guy posted links for and both stories were 100% spot on.

I work as a journalist and Caro's continual inability to meet even the most basic requirements of our trade deeply annoys me, a fact amplified by the fact that she continually targets my club with her lies.

In her last article about North's 'relocation', she used the phrase 'it is believed' no less than five times.

If I did that, my editor would say words to the effect of 'I don't what ya believe, get some facts'

For example, she said in one article it is strongly believed that the players are behind the relocation. If so, why couldn't she find ONE to go on the record, even once.

Her behaviour during this whole saga has been appalling and unprofessional, and she will not be getting away with it.

Terry Wallace has flown under the radar in football circles in general. Are you saying that because Wilson follows Richmond she should be more inclined to put the heat on Wallace? I think not. Wallace has flown under the radar for a number of reasons but namely becuase he was signed to a long term contract with a clear focus for a long term rebuilding strategy. I think you will find that if Richmond continue to struggly this season, all journo's, Caro included, will start to write about it more.

I always read her articles in The Age as they are right more often than they are wrong and I have always suspected that the reason she cops so much abuse on BF and on The Footy Show is because she is a woman. I know that when she wrote about trouble at the Dogs I became more than a little concerned about what was happening. She was right about it there was trouble but it seems to have settled down.
