IMO, thats not greed. Players have a very short span of time to make money from football, they are optimising their earnings for their futures. They are not in the workforce as a footballer, earning the big bucks for more than 12 years say.
A lot leave earlier due to injuries or deemed not good enough. A lot have no fall back plan, ie a uni degree or trade. Does Borwny have a degree or trade does anyone know? I can see Browny being a PE Teacher. lol.
Why is that funny?

Have you ever met Joffa?
IMO Collingwood are smart marketers and publicity merchants by having an instantly recognisable person, that the supporters can connect with.He bleeds for that team and club.
I really fail to see how Joffa is good marketing for the club. How could anyone see his antics and want to become a member? How could you say that people could connect with that? Surely he would only appeal to those who are already members and obsessed with the club.

Yeah, but these are young men, or boys even.
A lot during their time with us, are so focused in playing footy, fitness, and all that it takes to get on the field each week, that they dont think past that.
Other young men are also young men. Playing footy shouldn't be a excuse not to think about things. To me that's just a common trait among young males (and I was certainly no different). Plus, most young guys don't have the luxury of a footy club and players association that are very vocal in promoting planning for life after footy. The upside is that they are still young and have plenty of time to readjust to new goals. Most should have the added benefit of a higher level of self-discpline than the next bloke.

exachary - and footy players should be planning ahead even more so than others planning a career as this is a career that has a limited lifespan, even if you are as old as Lynch, Harvey etc when you retire. The problem most footy players are up against is that they are so molly coddled and wrapped in cotton wool etc they have no idea about life in the real world. For example if I wanted to apply for a job in Perth it would be up to me to find accommodation etc etc, these boys rock up and a home is given to them on a plate be it with a host family, another player etc - admittedly some of them are very young when drafted and it is the clubs responsibility to a certain extent if they are being plucked straight from home.

But back on the subject of this thread JB is going nowhere. There will be tns of specualtion until there is an announcement that he has re-signed and the more we have threads like this the more credibility we have to those than have nothing better to do than speculate and fan the flames. What club in their right mind would not be keen to get JB - doesn't take a rocket scientist journalist to write an article or talk on radio and say xyz club will be throwing all they've got at JB to get him. It;s up there with those tat contribute nothing to dicsussions apart from stating the bleeding obvious like - I hope we win this weekend and that (insert player name) has a blinder.

Not sure how the thread ended up in this direction, but both clubs and the AFLPA (through ex-Don Steven Alessio) have extensive programs in place for players to expand their career prospects beyond football.

They did a segment on Totally Footy a few weeks ago showing the stuff the Lions do... its quite impressive.

Oh dear please keep Brown, I wouldnt want that team to have a gun player.

Especially as they "stole" Buckley from you!

In fairness though any champion player would be foolish not to go to the Pies especially with all the potential money that can and does come with endorsements and sponsorships etc.

The only problem I see for the Lions is that the Pies have room in their salary cap, do the Lions?

Not a problem with our veterans next year including Bradshaw, Notting and potentially Black (not 100% sure as it depends whether the roll-over is the beginning of the season or the end of the year). That'd probably be a decent chunk of salary cap released since only Lappin is there at the moment.

I like the second post.
not Rhyce. Mainly cos he's playing really well at the moment, doesn't have an injury (knock on wood) and tries hard.
Brown is only worth one or more players that aren't playing well, are injured or don't try very hard?

Interview Browny had with the good folk at Alpha Magazine last month.
He mentioned that the house he was building he hoped to have finished by August. Room or rooms in it for Kyle's massage business. Why do all of this and then leave?? Not a snowflakes chance in hell will Browny leave the Lions. Remember he was a Fitzroy supporter as a young lad.

That's OK Monkey, never let the facts get in the way of a story.

Caroline Wilson is a speculative, gossip hungry journalist. She is another 'footy chick' trying to sound credible. She often gets her stories wrong. Perhaps someone should feed her false information;"Cloke to Richmond, Richardson to Collingwood!" I'm sure that would keep her distracted, as Browny signs on to stay a LION!:p
