Carrazzo - am I missing something?

For Carrots to survive he must become a tagger (type). He is extracting every last inch out of himself and his size. Thats why I guess he has a lot of support here - he works hard and does everything right.

However, he is not going to bust open games for us and he tends not to be overly damaging. And thats ok. Its about knowing you place in life. We have Murphy, Judd and Stevens (with Gibbs heading in the right direction) who will be the games breakers and will regularly cause headaches for the opposition. So Carrots needs to understand his role, and what will help get us to playing finals, is to be a negating player who can use his skill, small size and agility to get the ball going back our way. And what a handy player to throw into the mix when doing rotations!

I guess I am trying to see where we will be by 2009-2010. By this time you would expect our best 4-5 mids would be Murph, Gibbs, Stevo, Juddy and Simpson. So thats why I think Carrots needs to be focussed on playing others roles within the team. If he does this, and does it well, it'll help us to be playing finals as early as 2009 :thumbsu:

I have a lot of time for Carrots and see a spot in the 22 for him easily.

IMO the thing that he lacks still is the ability to be damaging with the ball.
Often in his high possession games he racks up stats by giving the old 1-2, as most high possession players do, but it would be nice to see him hurt teams on the counter attack.

Still has a dodgy kick which may never improve, but he has pace and he gets his own pill. Maybe he should work with Ratts on being a touch more creative by hand!

All in all, he helps make up a potentially damaging midfield, and not many players will stay in the center all game. Much rather have him there than not:thumbsu:

Totally agree:):thumbsu:

i don't understand what that means, but i don't rate Scotland at all...and i wanted to take this chance to say it again.
It means that you feel he won in a poorly fielded year, yet he out scored Scotland in the count.

Don't rate Scotland? I have to disagree with you here. He's as dedicated and nicer bloke that you would ever want to see or meet, always beating himself up for mistakes, making sure he doesn't make a duplication.

And that disposal... Wow.

I think you will find that Scotland will play a lot more across half back now that our midfield depth is greater.

He sets up play well....plus he reads it well coming in.

Carazzo for sure and certain will be among our midfield rotation group.

The more we have through this area the better.:thumbsu:

With Setanta out I think we need a player who has the uptempo emotional style of play and I think Carrazzo offers this as his most significant asset. He gets in and gives it a go. That will do me!

Unfortunately, the "gets in and gives it a go" is the very minimum a player at AFL level should give. Throwing in a bit of emotion too is just not going to cut it. We need a much more professional attitude than this if we have any ambitions of playing finals footy sometime in the future.

Carrots needs to play a role, do it consistently, and set high standards. He is in the leadership group. No excuses, no "just give it a go" - we want results, at all costs. Go Blues! :)

I hear you BUT the last several years there were a lot of passengers on the team. You know what I mean without naming names. I think Carrazzo rarley went missing last year. That to me is consistent. He may not be as skilled as say C Judd, but I will give him credit still to giving his all. If our team has progressed enough than great. Sit Carrazzo down. But if players are not willing to give a 4 qtr effort week in and week out, but still get paid heaps, then I will take the guy putting in!

And please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Carrots is not putting in. Quite the opposite! But your point about him not being a Judd is my point. We admire him for what he extracts from himself with his size and abilities. Unfortunately though, he is not the sort of player that is going to get away with having a few bad weeks. Thats just his reality. But that almost seems to be his driver. He knows he has to work harder and play smarter than others. Its what we admire about him. So while others admire the flashy, popular types like Fev, Stevos, Judds, Murphs, Gibbs etc. we all see how Carrots, like an assassin, quietly undoes the opposition :D In the right role, he is definitely in our best 22.

It will be interesting to see if Carrazzo has earnt more respect after the Best and Fairest with opposition teams. Will he receive more attention and not be able to be the quiet assassin? Or will they be so focused on Judd, Stevo, Fev etc that he can still get under their guards?

We've got about 5 spots for midfielders (discluding a ruckman), spots taken by Stevens, Judd, Scotland, Gibbs and -. The - could be a selection of other players, and Carrazzo is almost the cream of the crop, but i'd still imagine would fill one of the spots, as Murphy still plays great football on the HF line. I guess everyone will just fit in if Ratten goes with the rotational policy.

A best and fairest in a bad year, yet he still out polled Scotland?
You need more like 10. The wings, half backs and half forwards are all midfielders and rotate, as well as most of your bench.

He outscored Scotland by just 6 votes- not exactly a landslide.

Scotland has always played mostly across half back with occasional rotation through the midfield.

Carrazzo doesn't even play the same sport as Stevens - what fckhead even compared them ?!! (Oh thats right - dribbles !! We banned nutcase888 but keep this essendon supporter around :(:thumbsdown:....)

You are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to thoroughly ridicule it.

UNFCKNBLVABL!

If and when Carrazzo can't fit into our midfield, there has to be a job for him as a BP or HBF. Talk of benching him is ridiculous.

It's been said before, but I think we'll see him move into a Cameron Ling type role
