She is a disgusting human being.

A disgrace to womanhood.

Common! lets be fair. Caro is a journo and she is entitled to her opinion, even when she is wrong. She does get a lot of attention, same as Patrick Smith, for going gung ho before all the facts are out. The more we bitch about her, the more attention she gets.

I just don't bother to read her articles, and I skip through Patrick Smiths, looking for the laughs. But I certainly will not stoop to insulting Caro - that would be giving her attention.

You see a journalist, I see a gossip columnist. Like most things, it's all in the eye of the beholder. It does worry me that The Age's Chief Football Writer doesn't really write about football, but that's just one of the many reasons I cancelled my subscription a while ago

Neither does The Australian's much aclaimed and award winning Genital Cranium Patrick Smith. But I've got a helluva good deal in my subscription to The Australian where STREWTH is my favorite which I read first every day. I also get access to their inline content, so that makes up for some idiotic articles.
But we must never forget Freedom of the Press which allows the journos to write whatever they please; it is much better than a censored press that only permits journos to write what certain people consider permissible.

I'm babbling again, arn't I? :( That comes from still being euphoric over last night's win. I wore my Essendon cap to Brunetti in Lygon St (Carlton territory) for coffee this morning. :p

Its not whatever they please. This is why we have defamation laws.

Well that brings into question who gets to decide what is permissible and for what reasons. No matter how many lawsuits Hird engages in after this his image has been irreversibly tainted by the media. Total freedom of the press allows them to engage in all sorts of agenda pushing and character assassination in the name of profit and that isn't a good thing.

No! and I agree with you. But at the moment, nobody really knows what the truth is and what is false. We all await Jimmy's turn to present his case, but the problem is that facts are being presented in a twisted or out of context manner to bolster the printed stories to sell the papers and make the journos look like mind readers. I don't like it, but it is what it is - freedom of the press.

No we don't know what is truth and what is rumor, and to be honest right now we don't need to know.

There is an investigation under way which will reveal all in a few months so this isn't like investigative journalists uncovering a massive cover-up. It's just a bunch of hacks trying to get a bunch of air time and page hits before (hopefully) it becomes a non issue. An in the meantime people like Hird are having their reputation trashed and there is nothing they can do about it except hope that their employers don't cave in to the pressure from the media and stand them down.

Freedom of the press is great but these days it's being used as an excuse to slander and defame in the name of money. If the media can't use their freedom responsibly some of it should be taken away.

Don't sweat it kids. If someone got the arse everytime Caro wrote an article titled "Why *subject of minor/major controversy* Must Go", there would be about 23 players, 2 officials and 1 coach left in the League..

Good grief!! You don't want that Genital Cranium Conroy to tell us what we can read and what we can't.
You are correct in saying that there could be a defamation case possible sometime in the future. Unfortunately, whenever that happens, the apology is a small paragraph hidden in the nether regions of the paper, while everyone is happy to move on. That doesn't make it right, but I guess it's better than censorship. :(

I'm not saying we should censor things, just that maybe reporters should ask a panel of judges or something before they are allowed to identify people. They already do similar things in sexual and child abuse cases where the accused can't be identified until they're found guilty. Why? Because if your name was thrown around in relation to some long running pedo case but you're eventually clear your reputation is still ruined.

Re Conroy's laws, radio broadcasters are already subject to similar laws to the ones he proposed and presenters like Jon Faine still manage to cram more journalistic integrity into a 3 hour slot than News LTD show in an entire week. It's also worth noting that very similar laws proposed by Howard in the late 90s were widely supported by the media, the Murdoch rags in particular so I suspect the current opposition to them is more political than practical.

How are the Caro you Mole bumper stickers coming along?
Dropped the idea, was going to run with it but there wasn't as much support as I thought. The Dees lads seemed keen, but a few Bombers supporters didn't like the "mole" bit, and North saw that I went for Essendon, then deleted my thread, banned me from posting, ran over my cat and didn't invite me to their birthday party.

I'm never going to read her articles again or watch Footy Classified. She can GAGF.
Yeah same.

I'm not going to fall for reading her articles anymore. I keep checking them, hoping to get some actual news.

Whenever I see her mentioned now, all I can think of is this:

Caro should make friends with salad. Then she would have a happier life, quit her job, move to Peru, watch Star Trak, take up knitting & flower arranging. Just wishing....

This obviously makes people feel better. You don't have to read this thread. It was labelled clearly.

So polluting the board with endless posts about Caro and the Kangaroos.

Masochistic or what ?

I thought few read Caro's articles - But posters seem to know each article verbatim.

Its like the false sense of indignation - I will cancel my Age subscription - But i will read it online instead.
