Meanwhile, giant ruckman Christian Bock will be retained on the rookie list for the 2010 season.

The club has told fellow rookies Bryce Carroll, Kade Klemke, Thomas German and Rhys Magin that they will not be offered a place next season.

Article is mainly about our interest in Burgoyne but i found it surprising that we would get rid of all our rookies other than Bock, especially seeing that for most of them it was their first year on the rookie list.

Not surprised about Magin or Klemke. However I did think German and Carroll might have gotten a second chance (not that it bothers me). Perhaps we have specific plans on what we want to do in the rookie draft this year.

German a bit unlucky I feel. Does anyone know of anyone we will potentially rookie list, from Bendigo or elsewhere?

disappointing in Carroll, German and Klemke, all were good players, not surprised about Magin. Klemke very disappointed about

One year is often all they get. I am sure some rookies have been redrafted onto Rookie lists, so that may happen. I have not seen much of them, but they clearly did not show enough inprovement or potential.

Magin was never going to make it, though I would love to implant his heart and endeavour into some other players. He could get a shot at the Gold Coast with his brother still.

Bock is a long long term project. I don't know if anyone has actually seen him play to fill us in on his apparent potential.

Just on this subject. A few people were talking up the prospects of a young fella at Bendigo, I think it was Ky Miller? Is he perhaps still on the radar for rookie listing next season?

Also, I would not mind using a couple of our rookie spots to recruit slightly more mature players. Someone who as developed late and is showing good things in the VFL or WAFL for example.
One player like this I would definitely love to see on the rookie list is Scott Pendleburys brother who is in Collingwoods VFL side. I have heard good reports on him and if he could turn out anywhere near as good as Scott, he would be worth a chance.

Yeh I was surprised we chopped the 1st year rookies. There must be some plan in place this offseason.
I too thought German was going ok.

What's the deal with Klemke? Everyone hyped him up last year and now he's being shown the door.

Had obvious kicking issues but how was his form this year?

I think Big blow hard hit it on the head earlier when he mentioned the redrafting. Very possible.

What is interesting is that, and i'm guessing a wee bit here, I think those three were similar types, positional players. We desparatley need to keep addressing the ruck stocks so bock is not surprising, Magin is obviously not wanted and of the others one possibly has another chance.

But I think that our list is doing well in that positoinal role. Gotta have something to standout to warrant another crack.

I would say one thing, and that is that if i was one of them I would be a little pissed with Essendon's alignment with Bendigo for not maximising their AFL chance. Gone is a long time gone for most.

hmm i wonder what the issues are with klemkes game

most people thought he would go in the ND but he slid to the rookie draft and now hes goneski

can anyone who has seen a lot of him this year shed any light?

I guess. But "The club has told fellow rookies ..... that they will not be offered a place next season." makes it sound like redrafting won't happen.

Thanks for the bold type Spikey, obviously i didnt read the op:confused:

My post was speculative in that the practice of delisting and redrafting rookies is common as BBH alluded too.

I think that it is altogether most likely that they are gone but what would you expect the club to announce? Would it surprise you if the club said they were not wanted when they delisted them only to find come rookie draft time for one to be offered a place?

Shooting the breeze mate and could care little. As I noted we seemed to covered in their roles seemingly. Small money anyhow

I just think the way the article is phrased, in particular the bolded bit, rules out re-drafting. So yes, I would be surprised, at this stage, if any of the players got re-drafted.

Kris.

Played at Bendigo a few years ago, like his brother grew up playing basketball.

Good athlete that had a lot of areas in his game to improve and seems to have made some inroads.

Could be a chance.

That and he was a tool.

Very disappointed with this decision.
Carroll has some good potential, and I was told by that so called 'Essendon Insider' on the website, that he will be on the list and will make his debut in 2010. What a load of crock.

Hawthorn and Collingwood showed alot of interest in him before we picked him up, he was invited to the lexus to train, and no doubt he will be picked up and playing at a new club next season. I wish him all the best. Feel sorry, as he was an Essendon supporter.

German was doing well also,
you think they would of kept him as well.
I would of kept Carroll, German and Bock, but he is safe.

:(

"the way the article is phrased...."

Hence me being speculative.

But without being argumentative on this one mate, the really curious thing is that I am under the impression that the rookie list has some lattitude at present. 6 or so with Gc coming and more changes to take place. Currently we will have how many? Someone better informed can clarify that and the rookie list situation going forward.

My point, speculatively, is that there could be worse times to be delisted coming into Gc and a less than stellar national draft, to be redrafted.

Hence, the note, it is possible and wouldn't surprise me. But in all honesty i know naught about these kids.

:(

How close are either of them to our best 25?

Miles off and the fact is we'll draft another three or four kids this year that will probably be ahead of them as well.

That and he was a tool.

Really? I remember saying last year I thought he was a pointless draft as his kicking was terrible, but I thought he showed good leadership or something (reportedly), what was wrong with his attitude? Not that I really care, there was a reason he didn't go in the ND and I didn't think he would make it.

Interesting reading on this topic and some very valid points from all parties.

Obviously the downside is the fact that we have lost three very talented footballers in Bryce Carroll, Kade Klemke and Rhys Magin.

Each one has there own destiny, and each (I personally think) will be on a list somewhere in the near future.

Magin may be looked at very closely for the Gold Coast franchise, as he has experience at the top level (albeit very limited senior game experience) he has that knowledge of what it actually needs to take to get to the top level, the fact that his brother (who is also another extremely talented footballer) is already on there list may sway the Gold Coast frankchise to pursue R.Magin.

Klemke, as we all know was an All Australian last year, and was captain of the Murray Bushrangers in there premiership winning year in 2008. We all know that he trained with the Tigers before Terry Wallace pulled the pin on him and decided that Ben Cousins was a better option, we took the oppurtunity to get him at Pick 50 in the rookie draft. He is a positional type player, and one who I could see turn into that Corey Enright type player (maybe not so good, but you get the jist). He is an outstanding leader, rallies the troops and I was surprised (as was most) when he slipped to our pick in the rookie draft.

Bryce Carrol is the most interesting one of the bunch, a unique player who I actually had high hopes for after a string of solid games at Bendigo in a variety of roles. Although not completely sold on him, I always thought there was some potential in him.

The rookie list is a place of development, thus the reason Bock was not taken in the National Draft, the fact that some of the most dominant players in the comp were from the rookie list, no one had the knowledge of how advanced there game would become, look at Dean Cox, Sam Mitchell, Andrew Lovett even, all came off the rookie list.

These kids were the best of what was left, as you are required to have X amount of players on your supplementary list, and this is the best of what was left, obviously I think we will see a couple of mature age picks with this years draft (Jay Van Berlo, Greg Broughton - Fremantle: They were both mature aged rookies drafted into the squad and then given game time) i see something similar happening at the Bombers this year, although through taller options, key position players, at both ends of the ground, and even ruckmen in the state leagues I think will be given more of a chance.

I am actually hoping to see Klemke get onto a list next year, same goes with Carrol, think they can become solid players at a AFL club, as for Magin, one poster alluded too perfectly, "We could always tell he was not going to make it"; says it all really.

I think a few people need to adress their thoughts on how good players are if you are saying any of the ones delisted are "good" players.

Klemke - not overly quick , ordinary disposal and as Longy mentioned a bit of a tool.

Carroll - head case who never really did a lot. Pumped up by his parents who think he is the second coming of James Hird.

German - not quick and average skills.

Magin too small and struggled to put a stamp on VFL games.

I guess the only surprise for me is they belive there may be something better at the bottom end of this draft. Maybe they have an eye on some project talls.
I heard the rumour a few weeks ago that all the rookies apart from Quinn would be gone so Bock aside it was close to the mark. The other part of that rumour was Williams to be delisted and then picked up in the rookie draft if no one else takes him.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I think we'll see quite a few mature age draftees from a lot of clubs this season
