"WE ALL heard about Brownlow medallist Adam Cooney proposing to his girlfriend with a burger ring, a classic tale of sporting romance if ever there was one. Well, here's one that we reckon matches it. It happened a few days ago in the US — New York to be precise — when another young AFL star and bachelor, Carlton's Andrew Carrazzo, went on holiday with girlfriend Yvette Wood and on one night took her out to a swish restaurant and later to the Rockefeller Centre where the main purpose of showing her what is said to be the most romantic view of the city that never sleeps was to get down on one knee and ask for her hand in marriage. And all went well too, the Blues' midfielder having hidden the diamond ring (which he had purchased earlier) firmly in the side of his sock so that his glamorous blonde companion would have no idea of what was happening. That's when it all went awry. With security the way it is these days, particularly in the States, Carrazzo got as far as the lift at the top of the centre where a woman with a metal detector ran the scanner over his body and, surprise surprise, the security beeper went off. Whispering to the guard what had caused the commotion — and what was happening — she took the ring from him, apologised for having to be such a spoil sport and, discreetly as she could, handed it back. Too late! Minutes later Carrazzo proposed but Yvette 'fessed up to having witnessed what had taken place with the guard, so instead of it being a complete surprise she had guessed what was happening. At least the night had a happy ending — she said yes!"
