These are side effects of imagination meeting reality. Science Fiction writers take an ordinary object like a telephone and a watch and put them together , the young child reading Dick Tracy then decides he wants one and wonders how to build it.

The phasers on Star Trek etc, the hoverboard in BTTF, holograms in Star Wars. Cartoon writers such as the Simpsons writers who are based in Middle America take the most extreme idea and run with it.

If Trump had lost would anyone mention it being a Simpsons thing?
