No, the actors are around the right way. Brad Pitt plays one of the boys and is an assistant DA. Dustin Hoffman plays a bit of a goose as a lawyer - sort of reminds me of McDumbshit in terms of intelligence - except Dusty played a good guy.
Real conjecture about whether the movie was a true story or not. The bloke who wrote the book is adamant it is but they reckon there are so many inconsistencies. Its grisly and disturbing though. De Niro was brilliant.

I'd think there is a reasonable chance WADA might withdraw their appeal within the 21 days. It took ASADA years to issue show cause notices. WADA had a lot of documents to review and have bought themselves time exercising their right to appeal. WADA will lose no face if they take the time to review and then pull the pin basically stating upon further review they have opted to withdraw the appeal.

If this is the end result then even better - it would show WADA displayed due diligence reviewing the case and declined to appeal. The foamers could not argue.

In the event WADA proceeded and lost on appeal again this would shut up the foamers. Two judicial systems would then have agreed the players were not guilty. There could be no conspiracy theory for the foamers.

Don't want to entertain the other possibility at this stage.
Is this actually a possiblity? What is the 21 days? Is this a time limit in which the appeal can be withdrawn?

Yes there's several examples of WADA withdrawing appeals in the past. If you google WADA withdraw appeal you will see several cases where this has occurred.

Probably a very faint possibility, though.
Maybe but yourself in WADA's shoes. You receive thousands of documents and some clown comes over pleading with you to appeal. You've not had much time to fully review the case and can't be certain so can take the option of reserving the right to appeal buying some extra time. It will be no big deal if they later decide to withdraw.

I think it is likely that WADA will still be reviewing the case and whether they have a strong case worth pursuing. It will be a massive call for WADA to challenge a sporting bodies (afl anti doping tribunal) not guilty verdict so they would want to be confident of winning to proceed with the appeal.

I guess what efcboy is arguing is that the appeal could simply be to buy more time to pore over the finer details of the submissions.

I suppose it's possible but I still don't believe that to be likely.

Have just re-watched the Hird interview with Robbo & Wakely, and Hird was very impressive, as he's been throughout this.

When the right time comes, I'd love to see Hird and Caro sit down and go toe to toe. Hird would put her right in her place quick smart.
No she'd just speak over him and tell him to grow up

I thought you said they'd already handed over the brief?
I was wrong I believe. It appears it was me who was a bit confused.

But even so, I don't think it's much of a possibility they are just doing it to buy time any more. The ramifications of acting even this far are too large to pull out from IMO

Do you think any part of WADA's motivation to keep the door open might stem from the fact Dank's appeal is next month, and they might be hoping for something juicy to fall in their lap from that?

Ah right.

Sorry mate we're back to 10 posts a minute speed so my interest in keeping track of who said what and what stage we're at is highly diminished.

no I don't, although it's possible. I mean, surely Dank is either going to over-turn his convictions, which wouldn't help; or they'll be sustained, which is nothing more than status quo

I'm thinking more about what he might have to say in attempting to have his convictions over-turned.

ASADA still out there taking down the big players...

Holmes unsuccessful in bid to reduce anti-doping ban

DANIEL Holmes will have to sit out the rest of the Hutchinson Builders TRL Premiership season after his bid to appeal a two-year anti-doping sanction was unsuccessful.

Holmes submitted a urine sample to an Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority official on June 1, 2013 after playing a game for Central Division at the state championship at the Sunshine Coast.

The sample contained traces of salbutamol over the accepted threshold and ASADA notified Holmes such over the phone.

Salbutamol was a substance that appeared in asthma medication, with Holmes having taken 20 doses of Ventolin in the previous 24 hours for his diagnosed respiratory issues and acute flu-like symptoms.

A B-sample was later tested and it was also positive for the presence of salbutamol over the allowed threshold, which was 16 puffs of a 100mg Ventolin inhaler per day according to the ASADA website.

ASADA imposes a 2 year ban for a salbutamol puffer reading above the threshold. What penalty is the fair one?
