But who is to say that the Murdoch press doesn't have quality investigative journalists. I look at it from the side, that the AFL is a labor leaning organisation, and therefore Murdoch Press who are a liberal leaning organisation, will take great delight in hammering the AFL. There is a definite political angle to the reporting.. And true investigative journalists don't have to worry about AFL accreditation.
I keep seeing it stated that the AFL is Labor-leaning, but what actual evidence of this is there?

I know Bill Kelty is on the commission, but apart from that...

The entire competition rabbits on about "equalisation" but is as corrupt and money hungry as possible. If that's not headed down a socialist/union path, then my arse doesn't point the ground.

Corruption is not peculiar to a particular side of the political divide, though.

The equalisation stuff is taken too far at times, but by the same token, the polar opposite of it is much worse to contemplate in my view.

They've nailed their colours to the Labor mast in a number of state and federal elections in terms of funding etc.

Absolutely agree with you on both points. Can we stop agreeing and get back to rabbling now?

Or...we can just go back to paying out on Damian Barrett. Always works well.
Is he still doing that stupid Sliding Doors thing? No? Ok, I'll give it a lash:

IF the self-proclaimed 'best in the business' wants to be on a thing called AFL Trade Radio

THEN he should probably give a little more insight than 'never heard of them, Terry' when referring to a player that is a) currently on tour in the IR series and b) had AFL great Andrew McLeod waxing lyrical about him.

What a knob.

IF: the self-proclaimed 'best in the business' cannot even investigate a major, AFL-confirmed development in the biggest AFL drama this millenium..

THEN: He should hand in his AFL accreditation to be a journalist.

Corrupt piece of shit.

Common guys - Barrett cleaned up at the AFL media awards. He can now hang his hat up !

If that doesn't sum up the problem with the media... seriously...

Win awards for stories that were later proven to be a) completely false b) not in the public interest and c) defamatory.

I guess next year the 'exodus' story will be up for an award too?? What about all those players that are going to leave with no compensation.. look at them all running for the hills.. oh and all the supporters tearing down windy hill brick by brick??

Did he manage to get a single thing right all year?? Sorry say that again..

Found this little gem re the 2009 AFMA (Flog Barrett's first Alf Brown, ffs what a joke!):

Herald Sun journalist Damian Barrett won the prestigious Alf Brown award for best performer in Australian footy media.

Channel Nine's John 'Sam' Newman was among four people inducted into the AFMA Hall Of Fame and delivered what some would describe as a bizarre acceptance speech while others labeled it as nothing more than vintage 'Sammy'.

Newman indicated he might have preferred being at Beyonce Knowles' Melbourne gig rather than the AFMA awards and appeared to make light of the media's role in footy.

After a free-wheeling speech where he accused many people in footy media of not being 'themselves' he was light-heartedly told to 'get off' by Channel 7 boss Ian Johnson, sitting in the front table.
Newman proceeded to say into the microphone 'get f----d' before leaving the stage.

AFMA spokesman Mike Sheahan later made it clear he was unimpressed with what he perceived to be Newman's disregard for the Hall Of Fame award, saying: "Sam told me a week or so ago he would be honoured to accept this award. I think he told me a fib."

So how many times now has Sam now rained on Purple's parade? Answer: Not enough.

Sam is a gun. Bit old an rusty but love the way he is willing to question rather than just accept shit
That's why I respect Sam. Behind the boofhead exterior he is someone that

1. Does a little research himself
2. Forms his own opinion
3. Doesn't take direction about what he can and can't say

I certainly don't agree with everything he says and sometimes I think he can be a twat, but at the end of the day I respect him for staying true to himself in an environment that loves feeding on a fresh carcass left behind by the AFL.
