I thought it time to discuss our VFL Team.

For starters we have acquired Miller Bergman( Ex Kangaroo) and Luamon Lual(Ex Bomber)

Rumours that 7 are thinking of dumping their VFL coverage on FTA . Anyone heard anything?
Pretty sure it's been confirmed they are walking away. It's costing them to much money to broadcast with very little return interest

Somebody must pick it up, surely.

The AFL higher ups doing press over in india (I'm not against exposing the game to different markets just fyi) is just a shit look as seven walks away from broadcasting VFL/VFA and preston has gone into liquidation. I mean i know that couldn't foresee seven bailing as they headed over to india but just such bad timing

I honestly don't see the point in exposing the game to the Indian market. I just don't see the reality in which a decent number of Indian people embrace the sport and play or even watch it to make it worthwhile. I can see the League opening round in Vegas idea because lotas of Australian fans want to go over and watch the game there anmd it makes it a bit of an occasion, but who's going to India to watch footy?

I guess since it's such a big population ever a minute % interest translates to possibly millions of folks interested in the game. But feels a bit like the effort to get China interested (imagine it goes the same way and peters out pretty quickly). Will need some long term investment to actually come off.

Lets have some context ;
In the 1960 's The cats and the Demons played some games in the USA and Canada ( i think) . they were not interested .
Then went the those Parrots thingy . They were not interested
We played some exhibitions games in London , until the Roos nd Carlton had a punch up , and the British were not interested .
Went to South Africa hoping to interest them to play ; Not interested .
Tried to manufacture some sort of game with Ireland , until we started to punch them up , not interested .
Off to China , hahaha
Now india , Seriously , Its a game by Australians for Australians .
It is what it is , stop trying to think the World is waiting for this , they are not .

I don't think the AFL properly considered China, then Port Adelaide flogged broadcast rights to their games and actually made bank and supposedly had good numbers tuning in over there. There was something of a nibble but the AFL jumped the gun along with Port that pushed hard for a game there and rushed setting up a game

England won't ever work outside of an exhibition game perspective all their grounds become unavailable during their summer.

I know a few Americans interested in the game, i think you could viably get them interested enough in one game. They don't have the facilities. That said New York might be capable after hosting world cup cricket with the Windies

India if they bite it's worth following up, that doesn't mean play games there, but take the broadcast and localise it and see how it does bonus if the AFL gets some buck out of it. Don't rush it at all or try and stage games there like they did with china, you'd have to genuinely let their interest in it grow

Also side not, i still love international rules and was really hyped for the tour of ireland before covid killed it. I think the AFL treated the concept poorly for a decade, like any representative football. The players like it, and when you actually make selection criteria 'must have been all Australian squad' it better matches the GAA putting out their best team. I think with the women's game full of irish exports and the men's game has a few currently, it'd be a bit of fun. The last time they played it, it was very well attended and played in good spirits. Just don't make it a yearly thing and we're good for some tests every now and then

Would like to see the women play v the Irish women. All I would suggest to the AFL is let the game develop organically internationally. As for the VFL , I do watch via streaming, it was just nice to occasionally see the telecast with some added extras.

Yeah i think it's perfectly fine to explore interest, just don't rush or push it that's when it's tended to get sloppy in the past. But as i said the timing isn't ideal and interest locally is having issues. AFL Victoria which does run as a separate entity but underneath the AFL does not seem to grasp the situation at all local levels and would rather have clubs go defunct, merged off or mess up the talent pathways. AFL Victoria as a whole is extremely out of touch, and you can see it with the VFL/VFA that has been eroded and vindictively made to be inferior. Lost all of it's charm and appeal

If we're talking about Indian stadiums, they have a bigger MCG its in Ahmedabad called Nahrenda Modi Stadium and it houses 130,000 people. And we made that place silent in the 2023 CWC Final.
