Interesting seeing Kentfield have a go at centre ball ups .
Did it in the north praccy match i believe, they've got faith in his leap

Kentfield completely blew a 2v1 and what should have been a certain goal with about 30 seconds to go.
Yeah, needed to pull it around the corner a bit more or just have put more on it.

Lots of mistakes though. Bonner putting too much air on a kick to the fat side opened us up late when the play was either to have a shot as even a miss would give a 7 point lead or go long to the goal square.

Heath excellent and the KPF's were all very good.

Moniz-Wakefield very rusty and still a fair way off the ones I reckon.

Matthews has energy but didn't have a huge impact. One nice goal assist and his goal from the free and 50.

Taylor did some good things but at least 3 times blindly handballed into the corridor in the D50. Got plenty to work on imo.

Mentha jr. was more or less invisible.

Onley a very lumbering type.

Sinnema was very good and at one stage hit Johnson with a pass while he (johnson) was kneeling on the ground. Was pretty funny.

Taylor - in his normal spot in the backline and had to play on physically taller and bigger guys like Dear. A nice game from him just building but not screaming out for senior consideration.

Matthews - started the game in the centre square and got a bit of the ball early as a mid. He then went into his usual forward line position. He looks to be a smart ball user and shows some promise but I don’t know he would play on ball at AFL level. Kicked a goal after receiving a 50m penalty to take him into the square.

Jefferson - roamed up to the wings and looked like he hasn’t missed a beat due to his foot injury as he started really well. He missed a couple of early set shots that were probably 50/50 chances from 40 out given the blustery conditions before finally converting one from that distance. He seemed to be the main forward target for the day. Kicked a nice open play snap from the pocket in the second and in the third took a great contested grab in the goal square. When the game was super tight late Jefferson went into the backline to try to shore things up.

Adams - had Dear, McCabe and high draft pick Schubert as tall forwards to contend with, along with prolific VFL goal kicker McLaughlin. That’s probably as tough as it gets in the VFL. Schubert kicked five to early in the second but the backs were so loose it was hard to tell who was on who. He took one nice intercept mark and flew but spilled several others. At least he showed intent to attack the ball in the air and on the ground and pushed up the ground aggressively at times. Just before half time he gave away a pretty obvious insufficient attempt free and then complained enough to have a 50 paid against him which was a bad error. Not a game that fills me with confidence on Adams as an AFL tall back.

Heath - dominated the hit outs, disposal still a bit iffy. Potentially due to the tall forwards Box Hill had and the limited tall defenders for Casey he dropped into the hole in defence and intercepted several balls with strong marking. Was against AFL experienced Ramsden who Heath bullied. In the second half he spent some time as a tall forward while Kentfield rucked. Took the match saving intercept contested mark in the dying seconds.

Berry - looked to be playing half back and was asked to play on opposition quite a bit taller than him such as Schubert. Didn’t do a great deal.

Mentha - in the backline and I don’t know he touched the ball until deep in the second when it looks like he was moved to the forward flank. Got a little bit involved in the second half and was in the backline again, but nothing of much note.

Onley - I struggled to pick up where he was playing early. He flashed in the screen here and there and at stages he was starting on the wing and then started in the centre square in the second quarter and had a long stint on ball. I saw him kind of standing and observing instead of trying to get involved which was odd, he just seemed a step behind for much of the play. He started to get a bit of the ball as the game wore on at least but more on the flanks in transition early, and in the second half he started to do a bit more at ground level. Hangs his head a bit, body language isn’t great.

Johnson - played as a deep forward and then was relief ruck for Heath. Physical with some dodgy kicking as expected but is a big presence at VFL level. He kicked a couple of goals by just smashing through or holding off opponents in the goal square. Nothing is pretty but he was effective.

Henderson - looked to be playing high half forward and was quite lively early using his agility and neat kicking. He also had stints as a centre square onballer. He didn’t play the second half and I’m guessing he was the emergency to travel to the G.

Kentfield - the third of the tall forwards who seemed to stay a bit deeper than Jefferson and Johnson who led up to the wings. Knee was heavily strapped and he wasn’t moving super smoothly early but looked better as the game wore on. He didn’t see a heap of the ball but made an impact when he did with some strong marks and efficient conversion from about 20 out straight in front. In the second half he did some relief rucking and kicked one of his four goals as a ruck pushing forward. It looked like he spent a brief period as a tall back also.

Moniz-Wakefield - played as that running back and the preferred exit option along with Bonner. He wasn’t as prolific as the first game but was neat with his ball use. A few of his tackles got broken a bit easily but equally he laid some strong tackles. On balance I think this was the best defensive game I’ve seen AMW play.
