Baker didn't play.

Must be a long way off from senior selection. Reports from the last VFL game he played he did not look 100%. I would want him stringing a few games together before he is considered for selection. Did have a long stint on the sidelines.

Dead-eye dicks from the weekend:

Player Name No Goals/Points
Michael Gardiner 14 0.5
Jack Steven 57 0.4
Shane Birss 64 1.6
Brad Howard 66 1.3

ST Kilda's Steven Baker has a month to win back his place for a possible finals campaign after a minor setback.
Baker was two weeks into a comeback from knee and shoulder problems after back-to-back VFL performances, but withdrew from the Casey Scorpions side with soreness on Sunday.
Suspended for seven matches late last year, Baker sat out the first five games this season, then played Round 6-7 in the seniors.
He jarred his knee in Round 7, then required arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder after injuring it during his comeback VFL match in early June.
Casey has a bye this week, which means Baker will return in a fortnight, hopeful of pushing his claims.
The 2005 best-and-fairest winner is St Kilda's best lock-down tagger, a role that has been filled in recent months by Andrew McQualter.
Ruckman Michael Gardiner has put himself in the selection mix after two games at the Casey Scorpions.
He could replace the suspended Justin Koschitzke against his former side, the West Coact Eagles, at Subiaco Oval on Saturday.
But coach Ross Lyon said yesterday he was still to decide whether to play Michael Rix or Gardiner, with Jason Blake also fresh from a superb game in the ruck.
Gardiner has not played a senior game since injuring his hamstring against Sydney in Round 12, while Rix's only match this year was against Port Adelaide in Round 6.
"(Gardiner's) been training for a month, so he's reasonably well-conditioned and he's a good athlete," Lyon said.
"But Michael Rix has been really fiercely competitive and we know Rix has got a huge tank and can run and he's played on (Dean) Cox before, so we've got some decisions to make."

THE Casey Scorpions chased Tiger tail all day at Chirnside Park.
The Werribee Tigers poured on nine goals in the first quarter of Sunday's Round 15 VFL match to condemn the Scorpions to a game of catch-up.

They couldn’t do it, losing by 41 points.
It was a significant win for the home team: it is now only four points behind Casey as both clubs chase a top-four finish, which brings a finals double-shot. Smashing Casey at the clearances, Werribee blasted off with the wind in the first quarter and outscored the visitors when kicking against it in the second term. It had Nathan Thompson (six goals), James Podsiadly and Leigh Brown as forward targets.
In contrast Casey's attack was about as threatening as a water pistol. The Scorpions never got going, despite a cracking 37-possessions effort from captain Kyle Matthews. He also laid seven tackles and had five inside 50s. Shane Birss (34 disposals, seven tackles, six inside 50s) and Jarryn Geary (27 possessions, four goals, 10 inside 50s) also did well, but there was little else. Geary came off at the 10-minute mark of the last quarter, when the game was done, signalling he is line for promotion to the St Kilda team.
The Scorpions gave a debut to pacy midfielder/flanker Jarrod Mathieson, who was recruited from Southern league club East Brighton two years ago. Casey has next week off owing to the split round.

It is good to see that Howard played well again.

He has improved steadliy this year and who knows he may makea player yet.

It is a pity that Luke Miles did not play though.

Shane Birss (34 disposals, seven tackles, six inside 50s) and Jarryn Geary (27 possessions, four goals, 10 inside 50s)

Yikes! What more do these two have to do?!?

It is a pity that Luke Miles did not play though.

I think Luke bullshitted me when he said he was "sore" a couple of weeks ago.

Finally got the local paper today. The match report in there made it seem like one of the main problems Casey had was containing Nathan Thompson and James Podsiadly. I think it said that Silvagny, Allen, Ferguson, Rix all had a go and were not able to stop them.

Does that sort of give us an idea, how they stand compared to AFL level. I think the Saints could comfortably play Gilbert, or Blake on Thompson without him getting away too much.

One thing the Saints have improved on is the amount of player interviews :

Khan the Saint

IF KHAN Haretuku fulfils an ambition to play footy at the highest level for St Kilda, the club can thank the young Sydneysider's friends for introducing him to the game.
The rookie-listed Saint was playing rugby league as a teenager when some mates convinced him to give the indigenous code a go.
"My friends pretty much asked me to come down and have a kick in the park with their local footy side, and I've enjoyed it ever since," the 18-year-old said.
Haretuku was attracted to the game for its wide open spaces, but also for a certain cerebral element he believes is missing in rugby league.
"(The) strategy was a big thing for me. I used to play rugby league and it was pretty much just run up, get tackled. But now there's a bit more skill involved and a bit more to learn.
"I think the learning aspect of the game kept me interested."
That interest, and a natural aptitude for the sport, led to Haretuku being identified for St Kilda's NSW/ACT Scholarship program, an experience the young tall says has been invaluable to his progress as a footballer.
Apart from spending time each month with St Kilda recruiter Danny Ryan, Haretuku was flown down to Melbourne on school holidays to spend some time at the club and 'live like an AFL footballer' for a week. So did the aspiring Saint enjoy the experience?
"Big time. I learnt plenty and took it back to my junior club, and just used it in the games and improved a lot."
Now based in Melbourne, Haretuku is about to begin a course in exercise science at the Australian Catholic University as he begins his journey as a full-time footballer. But university isn't the only source of the young man's education, with plenty of lessons coming from his more experienced teammates.
"I've made a fair bit of progress - especially this year, with the environment; just being around all the senior players and learning plenty ... I'm improving every day.
"Steven King's been really good. He's been helping me with a lot of ruck work after training - he's been really good like that. Also, Michael Gardiner's been giving me a few tips. I've just been learning plenty from them.”
At 198cm and 98kg, it is no surprise that the Saints ruck division has taken an interest in Haretuku, although it is the forward line that he aspires to, listing centre half-forward as his favourite position.
He is also keen to work on his mobility as he strives to break through at the highest level.
"I just want to get a bit leaner and be able to run ... keep my strength but be able to run as well," he said.
With clean hands, a good leap and a long kick, Haretuku looms as an exciting prospect up forward or on the ball. But for the moment his focus is on general improvement, both on and off the track.
"(I'm) just trying to get the best out of myself this year, and maybe get another contract for the next season. And also something outside of footy ... trying to establish something that I can fall back on just in case footy doesn't work out."
But Saints fans, as well as Haretuku's mates back in Sydney, will be hoping footy works out just fine.

Once again no coverage of the Casey match. I wish these VFL broadcasters would get their shit together. ABC as well as the only 2 radio stations who broadcast VFL are broadcasting the same match. Surely one of them could step outside the box and do the other match? :thumbsd:

Following on from a joke on another site :

Box Hill Hawks
B Grima Markovic Dawson
HB Young Thorp Kenna
C Whitecross Clarke Neville
HF Suckling Dowler Morton
F Pedersen Morrell Smithwick
R Renouf Kennedy Tuck
Int Breese Nye Warby Walsh Neil Carey McQueen-Miscamble Gibson

Picking up play now in the third quater " ... Markovic backs back and marks, and quickly kicks to Smithwick. A little undecided he looks to unleash a big torp but it slews off the side to Thorp, who handballs to Suckling who ducks the tackle and kicks into the stiff breeze to Breese. He in turn looks to switch play and crosses to Whitecross, who switches back to be marked by Clarke. He handballs to Tuck who tucks it under his arm but, as luck would have it, is tackled and the ball spills to the nearby Nye. He sends a scary hospital handball to Carey who take the gamble to kick to McQueen-Miscamble who decides the name play has gone on far too long and puts it through! ... "

Appear to be in a bit of a form slump, they would be very dissapointed today losing to the bottom side.

And is that Blake McGrath on the extended bench? 208cm beanpole? If he's getting a game for Casey's ones thats a very good sign.

Wouldn't think so. Pretty sure all the scholarship players play in NSW until they're drafted or rookie listed.

Yeh, have a good feeling about him, I reckon he'll make it. Speaking of Scholarship players, Kane Murphy, son of former Sydney winger David was BOG for NSW/ACT. Big raps on him. Will be sweet if he makes it, supposed to be father son for Sydney but the Swans rejected him. :thumbsu:

Raph Clarke named in the best and goals? I take it Xavier Clarke did not play?

What about Steven Baker? Still injured?

I know it is a simplistic approach, but could you say that taking Rix, Birss , and Geary out of this team is like taking Kosi, Hayes, and Dalsanto out of the Saints.

Armitage, Clarke, Steven , and Howard were named among the best of a side that lost fairly convincingly. I would like to see more before I selected these guys for Saints.

Can someone give me some help on how Silvagni is playing, I have big wraps on him after seeimg nim play a few times this year, think he may be a smoky for the draft where key backs are at a premium, is a ready made FB, with nice leap and agility, hows he been playing,
