I started a James Wall thread last year - quite disappointed he was cut from the rookie list.

Is excellent in the air - either marking or spoiling. Silvagni is probably a bit more composed with his kicking though (Wally can be a little dodgy although he is 197cm).

The Scorps are on the TV this Sunday (ABC) for those who want a second fix of the "Saints". Hopefully we will still be alive and working out whether anyone should come into the team

Sweet, I can watch. Probs be too busy trying to do all my homework or setting up to watch it all though.

Should be a good game, will be keen to see how Jack, Armo and Big M go.

Gritty Scorpions sting Bullants in close fight


At Casey Fields, the Scorpions were met by a fired-up eighth-placed Bullants, who were determined to extend their finals push and avenge an embarrassing 118-point defeat in round six.
Playing coach David Teague and captain Josh Vansittart led their side by example, Teague with three goals and some inspirational acts, and Vansittart composed as usual in defence. But Casey captain Kyle Matthews and onballer David Armitage, who proved equally as damaging, matched the Bullants duo for both tenacity and touch.


Although Casey controlled much of the play, it struggled to make use of its superior possession, with poor delivery to key forwards Jarryd Allen and Michael Rix proving costly at times. Ruckman Michael Gardiner was impressive at the stoppages and also around the ground, finding space and providing a competitive marking target.


"I thought he (Gardiner) really turned back the clock today," said Casey coach Greg Hutchison.


Only nine points separated the two teams at half-time and despite Casey looking the better side, the Bullants' persistence and pressure kept them in touch. Brent Bransgrove's continual run yielded plenty of rewards. Andre Gianfagna was lively up forward with two goals and proved a handy foil to the heavily guarded Cain Ackland, who spent plenty of time at full-forward under the watchful eye of Casey full-back Alex Silvagni.


Teague linked with Bullants Adam Hartlett and Paul Colbert for shots at goal after defensive interceptions to give the visitors an 11-point lead at the final change.


But with Gardiner acting as a towering pivot-point into attack, Casey swung into action in the final term as the afternoon breeze swung in its favour. Last-quarter goals to Allen, who finished with three, and Ferguson stole the lead and the match from the brave Bullants.


"It was a very tight game. Whichever side lost would have been disappointed," Hutchison said.


"I thought they played very good football, we stuck to our structure really well and did what we needed to. This side's got plenty of spirit and they get the job done,"


Yet again, the Casey defence stood strong amid immense pressure. James Taylor, Evan Panozza, and James Wall were outstanding.
Casey will face the loser of today's first qualifying final between Port Melbourne and Werribee at TEAC Oval.

Don't think so. I'm getting better at reading between the lines on a couple of comments (as we've got no choice with the Saints) and I think they want another Casey game out of him.

Might be in the squad though.

Looked very mobile though. No major work being done off the ground on his legs (like the last game I saw from him some weeks ago).

In other news, Andy Lovell will continue to coach Sandy next year. So that means Greg Hutchison will play a role in the Saints coaching staff.

well the pointy end of the season is very much upon us, as the VFL premiership race has now narrowed down to just six teams.

This weekend sees a Semi-Final double-header at Port Melbourne's TEAC Oval, and Casey Radio 97.7FM 3SER will be there live to bring you all the action.

This weekend sees a huge amount of action for St. Kilda followers. Saturday night, the mighty Saints see if they can keep their season alive against Collingwood; whilst on Sunday, your VFL affiliate - Casey - goes up against Werribee.

Great effort for a first season Hutch

Bad Luck and look forward to seeing what his new role at the Saints will be next season. He brings a lot of in depth knowledge of our youngsters and of potential mature age recruits from the VFL.

This was exactly tthe situation to play Rix as a defender. I know he can take a grab up forward, but if ever there was an opponent for him it's Leigh Brown who ended up hurting us along with the Posdiadly (whatever his name is). Wall could have taken Posdiadly (better height match up) and Silvagni another forward. On a crappy day, playing Rix and Macca as the main forwards was always going to be tough (mind you, Chucky did not stand up on the day and Casey's Dunne struggled).

Seemed like Jack, Gardi & X were prominent.

Steven has really impressed with how much he's improved. Started off in the reserves at the start of the year and has steadily improved to be a vital player in the senior side and getting a gig as an emergency in finals time. Looking foward to seeing him in the RWB next year.

Yeah got slaughtered down back which was dissappointing considering Casey had a pretty good defence all year with Silvagni and Wall etc. Unfortunately no one stood up up forward either, which means it'll be even worse if Kosi got suspended.

X-man, MG and Steven were definitely the 3 most impressive. I noticed X and I think Gardiner spent the second bit of the last quarter on the bench, so that might be hinitng at something.

Was a good season for the Scorpions, good to see you have plenty of depth there for the seniors.

I was impressed with how our boys went and good to see both our VFL teams (Werribee and North Ballarat) play against eachother next week in the PF.

I think the dual affiliation is a good thing, get a lot more players experience at the senior level and is good for some of the kids to play finals, even if it is only VFL.

Yes Silvagni is a ready made AFL defender and I believe Essendon are showing some i.nterest
