Matthew Bate was a classic example. Tom Couch looks to be another who racks it up at VFL level and just gets lost at AFL level. But that might have just as much to do with our side as it is with him. Slot Tom Couch into a Freo or Hawthorn, and he most likely wins high 20 possessions every week.

Or better yet, give him more than 2 games at AFL

The unfortunate reality for Tom is that he's a mature age recruit, if he's not impacting games instantly then he's not doing his job.

He had his chance in 2012, he didn't take that chance - unlike Magner.

He may well come on to the list at the end of this year, but I wouldn't think he'd get a chance past that.

Surely he has a chance or else why rookie list him , I'd like to see him get 2 games at least

Our boy Barry get a run?

As an extension of that, does anyone also know how he's going in general? In the skill tester thing on the website he didn't seem short on confidence.

Yeah, he's going okay - regularly picking up mid teens in the 1st (also in the ressies when he gets pushed out, but that's only been once or twice).

Has good impact when he has the ball, needs to work on his defense - is slight and a project, but really looks a damaging player in the making if we can develop him.

Cheers, from my limited knowledge of his game we could use more players like that. Long way off of course.

Keeps working his arse off he could well debut near the start of next year, otherwise second half of next year.

I really rate him, which is rare for project players. He works very hard, takes everything in and does everything asked of him. I really think he will make it. Was one of the players recruited only after scoring high enough in the character traits and seems to be buying in well.

Hogan was very good. I left halfway through the last but he had 4. Missed a couple as well. Got plenty of the ball and worked exceptionally hard.

Dom Barry did a few nice things as well. obviously a long way off at the moment but I have seen enough to suggest he will be a player when he builds up his frame.

Barry did some very nice things today. Especially in the second quarter, was involved with some great passages of play. Kid will take a year or two but seems to have the run, carry, and class to be a solid player for us in future.

Petterd barely touched it.

For those interested, Casey vs Blues is the televised game tomorrow.

Blues fielding a very AFL-centric team, us not so due to injuries, etc.

Casey won't be having much in the way of ruck men tomorrow

Pedersen on stand-by for Dawes. I've got that sinking feeling.
