Toast Cat Academies - Geelong/Hampton and East Arnhem

Great to see the club has set up two Academies for Kitten development.
One to cover the Geelong/Hampton area and one to cover the East Arnhem area of the Northern Terrority

Under the plan unveiled to clubs on Tuesday, they will be given the chance to invest in specific regions to attract youngsters from diverse backgrounds and indigenous heritage to play AFL and develop elite talent within those areas.
The plan is part of an AFL push to ensure the game continues to attract and foster the development of players regardless of their background or location.
"The allocation of regions has been based on a range of factors – aligning to existing Under-18 talent regions, minimising player travel and access issues, aligning AFL clubs to current or historical relationships with certain communities and balanced access to 5-18 year-olds from diverse backgrounds

So many people jumping the gun.

We do not get all players from this area. Just given the opportunity to set up an acadamy (paid by the club, seed funding provided by the AFL) to offer chances to those who may not use the normal path to the AFL.

Will be interesting to see how this is done.

The map that shows Geelong covering the northern sector of the NT including Darwin looks good. Not going to complain about that from a recruiting perspective. A little bit concerned though that Geelong will get away games in Darwin though.

SA and WA will be interesting. I suspect WA to be halved between WCE and Freo and SA/Tas to be split between Crows and Power

So is this good or bad. Hard to tell by those maps. They do look very weird. Essendon gets a large chunk of inner Melbourne but the Tigers get nothing but a large chunk of the country. Very weird.
Essendon also get Western Arnhem land whilst we get the East

What?!
You mean the Ardennes aren't in Holland:eek:

Darned Public Edumacation System:p
I've always been interested in WWII and that's a part of the battle of the bulge.

Band of Brothers…. Most excellent… :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Back on topic - WE need to devise a way to have the Falcons top players listed as disadvantaged.

Footy factory funneling to the GFC.

Easy.

Ive been complaining the afl should revert to zones for a while due to competition from other sports, im hopeful this will eventually lead to geeling having rights to all of geelong development. I love the ownership and responsibility of developing an area, its the best way to get outcomes.

It brings about question marks over fairness but if clubs do their job well they will be fine. They are forced to promote the game and given incentive to do so. Is the best thing for meeting the challenges that other sports bring to our code.

Very happy with this even though its very grey.

I will complain about the shortfalls if it becomes apparent that Geelong are disadvantaged.

You reckon a bit more thought could have gone into it

You look at Carlton ( well who cares really) but they seem to have got nothing - you would think they could have got at least part of Bendigo - there would have to be alot of Carlton supporters from that area - because when they were linked - a stack of top liners ( Soutby McKAY Ashman Williams Keogh Austin and plenty of others) played for the Blues

Similarly theres a stack of Tasmanians who barrack for StKilda - because of Baldock Stewart Verdon Howell

Geelong have got 2 Launceston blokes and one from Burnie - Wells likes the North West - if he say gets a couple more from that area -and they have decent careers - alot from that area will start following Geelong etc

They should have done proper research into what areas predominantly follow one team - i mean Richmond and Mildura is obvious - Mark Lee Weightman Jimmy Jess etc - if the AFL had of - it would have been so much better

Wells would have probably preferred we got an academy somewhere in SA to be honest ;)

Wells has made it his business to take the obscure ones from other areas that perhaps the masses have overlooked. Id hate to see his ability, and that of his team, to pluck the obscure duck, removed from his armory.
