The season has long ended, and now the year is about to.
Here we are deciding our best line-up for next year, how we can improve etc.
We had an 18-6 result which is excellent.
Which was our best performance, and what was our best starting 22?

Nominations for best performances-
I'll limit to 6
1. Power in SA. 48 Points
2. Crows in SA. 26 Points
3. Hawks MCG. 30 Points Rd 1.
4. Bulldogs Etihad . 57 Points
5. Suns KP. 120 Points
6. Demons KP. 111 Points
Pretty sure others will have different opinions...

Our best lineup?
Bews Lonergan Kolo
Boris Taylor Hendo
Guthrie
Caddy Motlop
Menzel Stanley McCarthy

Cockatoo Hawkins Lang
Smith Danger Selwood
i/c Mackie, Bartel, Menegola, Blicavs

For me, the highlighted were essentials in just about all our best wins.
Ruggles unlucky.

Any thoughts?

I thought our best two performances were the Adelaide win and the Bulldogs win. What is so disappointing is that what followed these performances were consecutive losses on both occasions.

What does that tell you? Were the players too self satisfied with themselves and not hungry enough to drive home their ascendancy over the competition? Or other coaches went to work on us and we were not tactically agile to adjust?

I really don't know but personally throughout the season it was after both of these wins that I thought we were clearly the team to beat and then straight back to earth and looked like we would struggle to beat anyone......

Then throw in the Hawthorn finals win which was an emotional high (even if a poor performance) followed by a deplorable finals effort. Clearly there is something wrong in the mental approach of the players for me.

Easy to be over-critical of our our own team, and overrate.
Could say that about nearly all the teams except Doggies this season.
Swans- was there the night Tigers just beat them; their recent GF's.
WCE- lost to Dogs in WA!
Crows- lost to WCE.
etc...
I really believe we have a talented set of players that can not handle intense pressure, and another set of players that are short on talent, and 2 superstars.

The bolded nails it for me.

Apart from a few other individual performances, our season was basically dictated by how well J.Selwood and Dangerfield played.

On the flip side, the Western Bulldogs had an unbelievably good spread of even performances over the whole ground, despite being smashed with injury and having one of the worst spines on paper I've ever seen.

We need some serious player development and continuity over this preseason.

Ruggles is not unlucky, he's lucky to be on a AFL list.

I thought this thread was going to be a best 22 of the best performances from each player all in the one team. I don't watch nearly enough footy to have a crack at it myself but could be a decent way to pass the time for others. So just picking rounds for an example Enright (round 12), Lonergan (5), Kolo (17) and so on until you've got the 22.

Essentially if everyone played their best game of the year in the one week.
