Just back from practice match thought I'd share my impressions.
Players from the seniors list Hawkins Bedford Chapman Johnson only played first half with chappy trying hard at clearances and looking ready for rd 1. Hawkins looked like someone who badly needed some match practice kicked no goals but had a couple of touches. Bedford is built like a whippet but has good pace vertical leap and looked like could be a future prospect. Johnson had little impact looked rusty.
The star of the day was stokes who got posessions everywhere and can actually kick the ball.
My second best was our star forward of the future spencer (I can only tell you what happened) who marked everything cleanly, lead beautifully and kicked some straight.
Davenport was my next best specially when moved to midfield in second half when some of the better known players where rested.
Grima was excellent down back. West was probably beaten in the ruck and gave away a few frees. owen did a few good things but dispossal is poor. Ididnt notice reynolds until he limped from field in last qtr. Geelong actually won by three goal after trailing all day but hit the lead at the 18min mark of the last qtr.

I went to the game today! :D
Was a pretty good match, better quality than Friday IMO. Geelong played really well today. I noticed the skill levels have improved so much. Just their handballing was so quick and direct which made a huge impact on the game. We were lucky that we stuck with Willi. A few times during the game I thought we were gone because we were down by several goals (6 or so). Amazingly we made a big comeback in the last quarter to steal the victory from the sore and sorry Williamstown.

Many positives to come out of todays game:
-Davvers was AWESOME! Seriously I have never realised what was so good about him until today. He really stood out from the rest. He had so many touches and would always be around the ball doing fast clean handballs, setting up goals and kicking goals. I would say he was the best for Geelong today and was by far the best game I have seen him play. Well done Davvers! :thumbsu: I look forward to seeing more performances like that. He was all class. (almost my new fav!!!)

-Gamble's new look is interesting, makes it so hard when the players have different numbers AND shave their hair off!

-Chappy was rested for a fair bit of the game but when he was on he looked big and stong and ready to take on anyone. Some idiot Willi guy tried to push Chap, it was really funny coz Chapman was so much bigger than him.

-Stokes had a pretty good game. It's obvious that he is at snr level. He was always hunting for the ball and kept trying to chase players down. He accidently knocked some Willi guy onto the ground (he couldn't stop in time). He looked so scared that he had done something wrong again and obveously was freaking out that he may get reported. He gave the Willi guy a hand up which was nice to see.

-Hawkins wasn't on the ground much during the game. When he was he didn't look as dominating as he has in the past. They are obviously bringing him back gradually just to be on the safe side. He has lost some weight but still has some to go. Go to see him in the side.

-Reynolds played quite well. I don't really like to admit it coz I'm still a bit weird about him having #37. :( He took some nice marks.

-Matty Spencer was very impressive. In the 2nd half particullaly he racked up the possessions and was marking inside 50 heaps! I think one of the main Willi defenders came off injuried which helped the cats get the win.

-Random VFL players were doing a great job. I was just so impressed with tha game... maybe I was just in a a good mood or something. lol

Sorry my "review" was a bit vague... I'm just so tired. If anyone was at the game do you know who was wearing #53?!?!

This was his first game at this level. He hasn't dominated in the past, only at U18s level.
Despite the fact that he is huge, he won't dominate straight away. He needs to get used to the pace, gain confidence and then he will produce.

Yeah I know... I should have written that more clearly. LOL I'm sooooo tired. Yeah I agree with all that you said. I think he has lots of confidence already with him going up for big grabs. Will be great when he gets some more VFL experience under his belt. :)

Precisely 'c_t_c'. So many people are becoming orgasmic;) at the mere mention of his name. As I've said before a friend of mines son played in the same team as him at Melbourne Grammar last year and whilst he thinks Hawkins will be a very good player at AFL level he reckons it will take time. At schoolboy level he could push opposition players around at will because of his size and strength. Something he won't be able to do at AFL level.

Don't put pressure on him. Give him time to develop.

Hawthorn recruit Xavier Ellis also played in the same side and my mate reckons that, barring injury, he will play AFL before Hawkins.

Jess_555 according to the team list I got at today's game # 53 was James McTaggart.

Why would he do that? Wear his old number, I mean. Sure it wasn't Hogan? He's supposed to be number 34.
It's weird, some of the players wear different numbers at the VFL (does anyone know why?), Stokes was #57 or something today, and Davenport was #32. #34 was definitely Gamble though.
