Would be good to revive this.

Unless I miscounted, so far this year we have 4 votes out of a total of 45 going to players going to 30+ year olds.

The dash brothers polling more than all the 27+ year olds combined
I forgot this, cheers for reminding me.

I'll provide the first update of the 2026 season after we get the Easter Monday votes.

It returns! Season 2026 after the first 5 games.

If either metric is a tie, players are listed in order of their other metric ranking (I worded this horribly, sorry). This early, quite often the other metric is also a tie.

Here is the leaderboard for number of times listed in the coaches votes:

1. Max Holmes (3)
1. Bailey Smith (3)

2. Shaun Mannagh (2)
2. Tom Stewart (2)

5. Shannon Neale (1)
5. Tanner Bruhn (1)
5. Tom Atkins (1)
5. Mark O'Connor (1)
5. Jeremey Cameron (1)
5. Sam De Koning (1)
5. Oisin Mullin (1)
5. Gryan Miers (1)
5. James Worpel (1)

Total votes:

1. Max Holmes (21)

2. Bailey Smith (20)

3. Shaun Mannagh (9)

4. Tom Stewart (7)
4. Shannon Neale (7)

6. Tanner Bruhn (7)

7. Tom Atkins (3)

8. Sam De Koning (2)
8. Jeremy Cameron (2)
8. Mark O'Connor (2)

11. Gryan Miers (1)
11. Oisin Mullin (1)
11. James Worpel (1)

Thoughts:

-2 weeks is a long time in football. Mannagh had 2 great games as a forward and received coaches votes love, then had 2 stinkers and some are ready to retire him.

-Another frequently abused player from the gameday threads - Max "Helicopter" Holmes - is off to an early lead. This follows back to back BnFs in strong teams aged 21-22, picking up 161 coaches votes 2024-2025 flipping between half back and midfield. But boy will we let him know when he has a poor kick!

-Smith is going to be an ultra relable for the next 5 years, isn't he?

-No Jezza (basically), no worries.

-Usually we'd see Miers and Zuthrie combining for more than 1 coaches vote/1 appearance by this stage as well. Responsibility has shifted elsewhere, but form of some steady contributors isn't quite there yet.

-Not too many grandads up there, and we've slowly been trending away from that since 2022/2023. Plenty of guys you'd say that are still developing or are in their physical prime, rather than at the end of their football cycle.

Tanner Bruhn with the Triple J "shoulda been higher" from me.

Smith's consistency is really pleasing. He was a bit up and down at the dogs

Thoughts:

-Smith this, Smith that. Yep, he's having another great season but the praise for Holmes always seems a little more begrudging. Outright leader in both coaches votes categories and equal 4th on the overall leaderboard for the league. He's one of the best back flankers and midfielders in the league, and we're demanding that he plays both roles - often within the same game. Well in early contention for a 3rd consecutive BnF.

-Shaun "Stuck In A Funk" Mannagh quietly creeps up to 3rd for both categories. His bad games have been poor - no questioning that - but he's been excellent in a few as well and 3 of those received the coaches votes love. He's had to deal with no Stengle and a hampered then missing Miers. His best is game changing so let's hope our 2023 2nd round pick brings more of it.

-Oisin Mullin. Put some respect on his name! He's been a consistent player with improving ball use and involvement, while still handling some of the toughest assignments in footy with great application. It isn't easy for defensive negators to get coaches votes and he's done it 3 times from 8 games. Even the haters might be starting to come around.

-Congrats to O'Sullivan for getting recognised for a big game on Larkey. He's blending rebounding and defending nicely and has genuine star defender potential.
