Me too. My conclusions are that a) he's been a bit unlucky and b) he's often around the 8th-12th best player on the ground (including both teams). Just barely missing out. Usually between the two coaches you get around 7 nominations.

Defenders often miss out, especially young defenders with lower profiles. Sadly this happens with coaches votes almost as much as Brownlow votes (where at least it's more understandable as only 3 players can feature).

Thoughts:

-Dangerfield in the votes 6 times from 11 completed games, as a 35 year old forward pocket, is absurd. In the very best way.

-Holmes is making a real charge and is now top 10 in the coaches votes league-wide.

-Smith of course created a mini lead on Jordan Dawson of Adelaide and even with 2 games missed, is looking like putting together a Dangerfield 2016-2017 type tally.

-Notably, our "weak midfield" has 2 players absolutely dominating, according to the coaches.

-Shagga Neale has impressively notched votes 3 times as a developing key forward.

-Weak direct opponent or not, Jezza is putting together a supreme run of form ala 2024 - one we demanded from him and he has delivered.

-Zuthrie deservedly got some votes for his recent return to form, that has built since the following man came back into the side.

-Tom Stewart is on the board! He's back (baby)!

Mr Meow: Bailey Smith and Max Holmes takes me back to 2007 when Gazza Jnr became a sensation with Jimmy Bartel coming on strong, Gazza Jnr was expected to win Brownlow (which he should of) but none the less Jimmy still did deserve the award if anyone else was going to get it. Bailey and Max the way they're travelling, it just has that feel about it.

Holmes, Cameron, Miers, Zuthrie and Atkins are the ones on exceptional runs the past 5 or so weeks. Reminiscent of 2023-2024 voting. The latter 4 have been climbing up both leaderboards, while Max has almost caught Baz - helped by the odd game he's missed.

Let's dig into that a bit further. Do you think my negativity can be traced back to my upbringing in a single parent household?
If they were cynical and abusive, then absolutely. Perhaps you hated to witness the physical decline of your hard working grandfather and now Stewart's good-but-not-dominant performances are triggering?

Or maybe we just have a couple of star midfielders and the best forward in the comp dominating the votes, with some young and prime aged players stepping up to take over from a few veterans?

Big Shannon the picture of consistency? Not on my bingo card.
The only key forwards with more coaches votes appearances in 2025 are Thilthorpe, Cameron, Treacy, Hogan, Georgiades, Gunston and King. Admittedly Neale's been low on the order when he's featured, but still very good signs.

Just needs to hone his contest craft to avoid giving away frees and get his hands to stick a little more and we've got a top 5 KPF on the park in a few years.

I've got full faith in him. Mobile KPFs are very punishing in the modern game.

Mannagh the big mover.

Holmes is now neck and neck with Smith.

Cameron giving himself some breathing space in 3rd.

Who'd have thought Neale would be equal top 5 for coaches votes frequency at this stage?
That's a great sign for Shannon Neale. A lot of folks couldn't see his potential when he came in but he's starting to make it impossible to ignore. And with consistency.

In fact, if he remained at this level for the rest of his career, he'd be a handy player. But there's actually no reason to believe he's peaked yet.
