George Steven’s just pounces on the ball at stoppages and gets it out with people hanging off him - like all great contested ball winners (Libby, etc) do, but he has the engine and the skills to hurt as well. Can’t remember a more rounded performance from a debutant. If he can play like that consistently and stay on the park, then we potentially have the missing big bodied mid we have tried to find (Knevit, Stephen’s, etc). His contribution to that performance was integral, and lets see how he translates over time as the level of opposition gets greater, but I’m very excited at his future, and what he may do for the rest of the year potentially.

Dangerfield on Stevens:

“Yeah, (he’s like a) ‘Joey’ (Josh) Kennedy. He's so similar it's frightening,” Dangerfield replied on SEN Breakfast.

“Joey was a star obviously, but when he came through I think he had similar challenges early on in his career in terms of how he was pigeonholed as a player.

“People would say, ‘He’s not as fast as whoever’. But where he hits home is that he’s better than anyone else in the contest.

The undercutting is getting boring now.
I hope Gazza Greatness doesn't take the bait and gets back to you later, much later, like he said.
I don’t know what to say.

There is no “undercutting” or baiting going on here. It was a legit question that was made in good faith.

The kind of question that hopefully stimulates reasonable debate on an internet forum. I am sure that as a reasonable and intelligent poster Gazza Greatness would take the question the way it was intended.

Apparently others are not able to see that. Cest la vie

I can already see what's going to happen here if poor ol George doesn't turn in a superlative effort against the likes of Collingwood or the Crows.
If you think posters will be happy if he doesn’t play great in those games then you are likely mistaken.

Everyone is hoping beyond hope that he is awesome in all games, but some are choosing to take a more cautious outlook until he proves a bit more. Which seems a prudent way to go to me, others want to jump on early which is fine also. But we don’t have to agree.

Dangerfield on Stevens:

Been saying Stevens is a JPK mold since I first laid eyes on him.

Kennedy took a while to get going after being traded from the Hawks to Sydney.

Stevens has those traits... just need to keep working on his game.

Has the size in spades... has the skill... has the leg... has the leadership... just keep grinding away at his gut running/fitness and he will tick most boxes.

Just had a look at who George is up against for this week's Rising Star nom:

- Hardeman (NM): 20 disposals in a 50-odd point loss to Bulldogs. Previously had a 28 disposal game and didn't get nominated.

- Kako (ESS): 17 disposals and a goal in a 40-odd point loss to Suns. Will likely get a nom before the season is out.

- Shanahan (WCE): 14 disposals, 5 marks and 2 goals in 60-odd point loss to GWS. Impressive performance in his second game (only WCE player to kick multiple goals FWIW).

Has to be a great chance to get it, Shanahan probably the main threat.
Kako has put together a pretty decent debut season which counts for a bit. and 17 and a goal for a small forward is impressive. So, I wouldn't be surprised if he get's the nom.

If Bruhn is looking all good for next year and with Stevens likely to continue to improve... It really spells trouble for Knevitt/Clohesy who I don't think are contracted and Clark who maybe has one more year to go.

Knevitt IMO could be in real strife to stay on the list, and the reality is Clohesy might need to try to find a new home to get a deserved opportunity going forward.

That's not even taking into account we could land a Butters/Reid/Worpel down the track.

I think the rational supporters realise every player has some bad games + ‘everyone’ makes mistakes.

Q1 was quite a mess at the start. Q2 intensity + focus improved. We won comfortably.

Some people need whipping boys. Zuthrie for years. Now he’s an incredible player. Shannon Neale, 22yo + only 36 games with 46 goals is developing well.

So for those of us on the Gorgeous George, aka Mr Fahrenheit, bandwagon, ‘In Wells + Mackie, we trust!’.

Most supporters wish him success + many years in the Hoops.

I don’t know about you, but I am assuming we never see Bruhn in cats colours again.

I have no idea what is going on with him and his situation, but the way he has vanished completely with no explanation makes me think we have moved on completely.

Yeah I was thinking it’ll be a fine , very lucky if Stewart was concussed that’s an easy 2-3 weeks
Do you think players have a duty of care towards players, who’ve had concussions previously?

Obviously, there are sanctions for dangerous contact + severity increases if repeated.

May I add, hope this remains out of the rabbit burrow.

I can't assume anything either way because I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes.

That's why I said "if" Bruhn is looking all good.

Might be tracking well... might be all over... I have no idea.

Hard one to answer I think most players take the duty of care seriously..then you have the curfew thugs like Balta who obviously a campaigner

So it varies

The resemblance to George is uncanny!

I think the current whipping boy is OHenry.

Talent ID PHENOM Dangerfield has a great track record.

Nice that he is getting mentioned as i had him in the best 3 on ground

I thought it was clearly his best game of the season

I know there's those who'll remind us of the opposition, but sometimes you need a game like Saturday, even if it's against a lower standard of opponent to kick start things

Noah Balta has copped a $10,000 fine but escaped a ban for his heavy hit on Geelong's Tom Stewart.

It was graded as careless conduct, low impact and high contact, which equates to a fine

I know there'll be some who'll argue it should have been medium impact based on, "potential to cause injury" clause but this likely also works as a good example of the the MRO & AFL making the matrix work to ensure punishment

If the charge was graded as medium impact, it would have resulted in Balta being suspended for a week. Now let's look at this week's fixture for Richmond...

They play Essendon on Saturday night, 7:35pm at the MCG, meaning that Balta is already unavailable due to his curfew. Suspending him would have made no difference to his week, so a fine hitting him in the hip pocket actually makes sense on this occasion

He's still at the club, he's been shown training over the past 6 weeks or so and spending time with players outside of the club

A certain #4 may have also been in attendance watching the VFL yesterday

So not sure it's true to suggest he's vanished completely - more so that that club & league can't comment on things at the moment

cat To The Future explained.

It’s their jaws + wholesome good heartedness.

Enjoyed reading your summary of George, thanks for your insight.

The OHenry criticism is so tiresome.

Our forward line now has Danger. Obviously, well to me, OHenry‘s role has changed. He’s only 22yo + has played 59 games at Geelong.

As another member said, his defence game is improving + it’s difficult with so many guns, including the Swarm, to kick goals.

He’s lost confidence + needs time to develop his new role as ‘gun decoy’.

Would be good for him to run on the lead to mark, instead of trying to mark in the pack, against bigger bodies.
