The Geelong Football Club has decided to go live for its home matches next year. Brian Cook has asked the AFL to telecast live 3 games from Shell Stadium, on Sundays into Victoria.

These games are, Eagles (Rnd 1) Power (Rnd 5) and Brisbane (Rnd 21).

The question is, What is better for a football club trying to survive, attracted about 20,000 to a home game against interstate teams or attracting about 15,000 to home games, but then getting an audience of about 500,000 (Nation Wide - Not just Melb)watching the game live.

You always want to fill your ground, but you always want more exposure.

Personally, I'd go to every game, even if it was live on TV, but would anyone else have second thoughts about going, knowing that it was on TV at the same time.

Round 21 won't happen because Sydney play StKilda at the SCG.That game would be televised back to VIC.

If it does happen the Eagles,Lions,Swans and other interstate supporters in VIC will complain because there games won't be shown.

It is my view that football is always better seen live than on TV.

I do not consider this decision by Geelong to be too earth shattering in itself, but am concerned at the longer term implications that this represents.

For a long time, the gate has always been protected against a live broadcast. This has firstly been weakened a little bit over the past few years with an Optus PayTV broadcast. Now this.

What I see this is doing long term is changing the culture away from attending matches to watching ot home on TV. This cultural change would only serve to benefit the corporates, while detracting from both the gate returns and atmosphere at games.

I don't want this for my children. I want for them to feel the passion and emotion that is truly only generated through being there.

Of course you can't get a spot near the boundary line Pess, It's all seats!

Pay for a seat and you get a spot close the the boundary line

Not that you have to worry about that next year anyway!

Bloody AFL costing the Hawks a certain 4 points by not scheduling us to play at Kardinia Park!!!!

Next Time Im Down that scummy area of victoria! U will hear a loud bomb noise from the Shell Stadium area!

I cant belive that hole of a ground is still used as an afl venue!

JUBJUB,

As Shell Stadium is in Kardinia Park saying either would be correct.

Just the same as Optus Oval is still in Princes Park.
