Atkins plays in the guts. Disposals there are often short, rushed, and end up being another contested situation. Holmes is and outside mid where it's easier to spot up a leading target. DE in those situations isn't a fair comparison.
Atkins, like many defensive inside mids, also gets numerous possessions that don't count as disposals - but they stop the other mob getting the ball.

What about Brisbane. Hipwood 203cm and Daniher at 201.
SDK takes Hipwood. Sav or Henry to Joe?

Thing is Sav needs stationary forwards, we saw V Sydney what happens when he has a mobile opponent.

Hipwood and Daniher get up the ground. Henry and Kolo can go with them.

Atkins and Stewart's strong form continues, with Stewart a real chance at a B&F. Close and Miers are bobbing up a bit lately. Great to see Maxy featuring again. Hawkins the ever present even if Grimoz calls for his retirement most weeks. Blicavs a bit unlucky I reckon.
It's just amazing that Stewart, Atkins, Blicavs, Close, Miers and O'Connor were ultra late or rookie picks but they're often in the votes. Incredible recruitment and development.

Where would our current list be without those guys? I mean our success curve changes completely so we'd have a very different list, and no where near the success we've experienced the last decade.

Said it before and will so again - the gold that Wells and Co have dug up consistently since 99 is just insane and clearly not a fluke.
And its been a key pillar in one of the things that has allowed us to be successful 4 times over 16 years.

Long may it continue for our joy and the utter misery as the oppo fans hear " Wells has found another one"

ps - and yes, not all picks and decisions have been great. Some have not worked out and some have been piles of......

Miers at 57 is just total thievery on our behalf. Every single team in the comp would have a spot for him.

But even look at the Jack Henry effect

Rookie pick 16...

Gets VFL games and comes up the ranks.

Remember Jhye Clark 13 about 14 handles ago saying JAcks brother Ollie is even better.

Jack gets AFL games and starts doing well and lkow and behold... now Ollie wants to be here as well and wah lah... both Jack and Ollie are here from a rookie pick 16...

Now... it also cost the Oh trade price - fully accepted - but the drafting of Jack kicked the pebble off the top of the mountain.

We've done well

Just like how we got Danger but the real steal was getting Jenkins too!

But in all seriousness, pulling Betts over also got us Stengle. Someone at the cattery is playing the long game. Very switched on.
