Fantastic win, given the circumstances.

And hopefully with a game like that, we can once and for all put to bed the utter nonsense that gets spouted here from time to time about Danger. At different times we've been told that he's not that good, he's all about himself, and he really has been in the twilight of his career for quite some time.

Well if that last quarter effort in isolation doesn't put to bed all those ridiculous notions, I seriously don't know what will. That was as Selwood-esque as you'll see from any leader out on the field.

He's a bona fide champion and I am incredibly glad he plays for the hoops.

To be fair, Dangerfield put that argument to bed authoritatively in the '22 GF, IMHO. Should have won the Norm Smith that day (with apologies to Smith).

Haven't seen anyone talk about what Blitz did to give away the free just after the bounce which very nearly cost us the game.

Seemed very stupid, no? Probably the loudest I've ever yelled at my TV.
I gave blicavs votes as i thought it was one of his best games in years (very rare from me) but he made some big howlers in the last 3 mins. Why he didnt just slam the ball on the foot to give us a guaranteed win in the last 15 seconds of the match was beyond me. Nearly also missed that regulation touch on the goal line too.

Just watched the game, and what a beauty. Luck was on our side for the win, that's for sure. I imagine many Pies supporters complaining bitterly about some of those last quarter umpire decisions, oh well. What a game from Paddy in the second half. A real Captain's performance. I thought Smith, Mannagh, Dempsey, Holmes, Bowes, and Atkins all were superb. We got a bit lucky in a high-pressure game, and we'll take it. We needed those 4 points more than they did.
I didnt think losing stanley in the first qtr when we were coming off a 6 day break was lucky. When danger is rucking it aint a day where luck was on our side.

Jeremy Cameron is having the worst season of his career. Devoid of confidence and looking very vulnerable in aerial contests. I do wonder if that nasty shoulder injury he sustained last year? Whether that his impacted his ability to clunk those marks forever after.

I try to not get political within football threads but for a lot of today I've been thinking about my dad & 2007

My dad was a diehard Geelong supporter and he passed the love of the Blue & White onto me - even though I was born on the GC, I knew what Geelong was before I knew it where it was or moving to the area. We moved back to Geelong in 88, so dad saw the losses in 89 & 92 before he died in 93, so at least he didn't have to watch the back to back losses of 94 & 95

Being a youngster when he died we never spoke about politics, so I never knew which way he was inclined or had it influence me as I became voter age and taken my own interest in it

The first I learnt about his political ideas was the night of the 07 Federal election when my brother texted me - "Dad would have loved this year", referring to the Grand Final win and Rudd getting up

So as I said earlier, I'm not looking to turn this into a political discussion, but I do know that wherever my dad is watching from tonight that he'll be loving today and enjoying an extra beer in celebration - and that makes me happy
Beautiful post cats09, a loving tribute to your precious Father ♥️

Cheers to your Dad 🍻

Many teams would dream of this alleged dilemma ..

This is a forwardline still learning to work together; we're starting to look dangerous when the ball goes in there.

Give it time.

That is fine and all but watch the bloody games mate!
He is not the same player at the moment. It's a very real concern. He may be in decline having been up for over 10 years. Still a bloody fine player but hardly the Jezza we have been accustom to watching.

lol “in the spirt of the game” lol gtfo kingy! He said everything possible to embarrass himself tonight Fox should be ashamed of his comments.

It's the 'spirit of the game' to let the biggest club win on the biggest stage, especially when the commentators want it. :rolleyesv1:

TBH (and sorry for bringing a political angle) as soon as I heard that I thought about "Why don't you just say, “Yes, he does,’ and you know, go on to something else?" I hate the entitlement and unprofessionalism of the AFL media.
Too bad someone like Mooney wasn't in the booth at the time. Would have like him to contradict those clowns. But he's too far down in the pecking order I suppose.

I think it’s more to do with Danger reshaping the forward line. If Jez is still playing like this in the second half of the year, we may have concerns.
Nothing to worry about atm with 8 rounds in. Forward line still trying to settle.

Thoughts on Neales game?

Thought 5 mins into the game it might finally be his breakout game. But there wasn’t much else to be excited about after that. He just lacks footy intelligence and instinct. He’s capable of clunking a mark occasionally but that’s about it. But he’s our best option atm so we work with that.

Have watched the last few mins a couple of times now and I still think the HTB against Blicavs was rough. I can't imagine they would have been paid at any other point of the game except in the dying seconds, with the crowd roaring and the Pies desperate to get it forward.

It was there every day of the week. He had zero intention of ever trying to get rid of it.

I sure hope so.
I often felt Cameron would be able to play at a fairly high level well into his 30's but he could be one of those players who declines rapidly.
Jack Riewoldt hit a wall all of a sudden and was managed through the final 2-3 years of his career.
Jarryd Roughead was done at the age of 31.

Tex Walker looked to be cooked before flying out of the blocks this season.

How good has Mannagh been, not perfect but so important for us when the games close the last few weeks.
He's one of the few who have the desperate drive of a Dangerfield. That is PFD's one wood, full desperation-zero doubt attack, on any and everything. Mannagh has a lot of that. Some of the others get on board, (I like OHenry's gear shift) but they need to do it earlier. Like years before, we can't wait for the skipper to do it.
Caveat: nobody does it better than Dangerfield, even Selwood wasn't physically big enough to do some of those beasty things.

Of course I watch the games and wasn't even necessarily disagreeing.

I can imagine your wedding ...

"Do you, Miss -:
"Of course she bloody does you stupid priest. Gimee that bloody ring."

Yeh sorry for being abrupt. I just don't think his stat line is showing the whole picture. Most of his goals have come at the death of matches which have bolstered the overall look of things.
During a game which is getting out of hand, he's gone missing.
He's currently playing more like Harry McKay than the highest paid player at our club.

Thoughts on Neales game?
I thought he was good in the early part of the game.. Some of those marks he finally got his hands to and marked them.. id like to see him kick a few more goals. And id love to him to use his big body to rip a game up.. hope he relies he is a big boy and needs to use his body..
I'm still sitting on the fence to see if he can take a few more steps to be a good player

Selwoods peak was awesomely good. He is underrated by the afl public. I rate him as highly as pendlebury. He was top 3 player in the comp at peak. But dangers peak was best player in the comp. Selwood never reached the level of danger 2016-17. Could never dominate down foward like danger. Could never accelerate like danger.

True, but maybe why I have such a high opinion of Selwood. He doesn't have the power of Danger - really, I can't think of any amazing physical attributes had - but his ability to influence a game and willpower to win (if we want to call it that) was as much if not more than Danger's.

Agree that peak Danger - 2016 to 2018? - was probably higher than peak Selwood. Probably only second to GAJ as far as Cats players go in the modern era.
