Some candidates live in Queensland FFS! Why would NSW people vote for them?

Thankfully we only had Trumpet of Patriots in the last week.

Not one Barnaby advert.

A few Labor adverts.

Started off well.
Your thoughts?

He started very well then Stanley did his hammy and he had to go into the ruck. Played most of the first half there and shared it with Blitz in the second half. Once again was the leading contested marker (he and MOC both had 3). His biggest issue is that he is trying too hard to do the team thing. Witness the pass to Danger in the last. Leave him alone. All of you. All of you!

Lyon has softened on us massively now he's engaged to a Geelong supporter and her family. He hated us for years before that, I think it was from Snr belting him.

That incident of Gazza Snr giving Gary Lyon one was in '89 when he was at the height of his powers. It was in the first half of the '89 season when the Cats won a massive 3 games at MCG, all with huge crowds against excellent sides in Essendon, Collingwood and the Demons and Gazza was virtually unstoppable. So against Melbourne, the last of those 3 big games, the Demons decided to stop Gazza's influence during game coz once again he was dominating against Rod Grinter for the Demons but instead of taking Grinter off Gazza they doubled teamed him with Gary Lyon also playing on him along with Rod Grinter (yeah, Gazza was that good!). And Lyon decided to close-check the 'great one' by virtually half grabbing him at contests, so Gazza must of said to himself 'enough is enough' and he gave Garry Lyon one, with Gazza 'the great one' being reported, then owning up at tribunal because his 'faith commanded so' and he got 3 to 4 weeks which at the time he was unstoppable.

When Gazza came back from suspension, he wasn't quite the same player (must have gone fishing with his enforced time off) but he gradually built up his fitness base and 'touch' to then be fully wound up for the 1989 final series. The rest is history as he kicked a record 27 goals from 4 final games and played football at a level that has never been seen and is unlikely to be seen again. That 1989 final series conclusively showed to the football world that Gary Ablett Senior was clearly the best footballer to have played the game in at least the past 55 years and probably the 'best of all time', such was his greatness at the peak of his powers.

It was reported in 1989 that those huge games at the MCG were attracting at least 5,000 additional footy fans from other clubs to watch Gary play..... he was that good to watch and play our great game!

Pretty sad day if we start cheerleading election results.

Our country is going down the toilet and neither of the 2 major political parties have any intention of doing anything meaningful to address it.

Our political system is full of some very ordinary people with not a great deal to offer. When people start voting Teals I think it says a bit about Labor and the Coalition

…and Aston Villa won as well! 3/3 for the good guys. Great night.

Why 2 weeks - he should technically only miss a game if he recovers well.

Cats V Pies May 3rd
Cats V Port May 17th

Outside 12 days

Average days out with concussion is 20

Hopefully Humphries ticks all the boxes and is cleared to play against Port on May 17, but don't be surprised to see a cautious approach taken

Not sure what's more embarrassing.
Being proven so badly wrong within the space of an hour, or doubling down that you were right.

Cop your L and move on.

Im not sure how the result changes my assertion that Scott had a mare last night at selection?

Either Kolo is fit or he isnt, the fact that he was named as an emergency indicates that he is match fit at least and therefore couldve played if needed. Given how depleted we are down there, and the knock on effect it has for other players, keeping him out was a big mistake, which was then compounded by the Stanley injury.

In addition, we were one shank away from losing that game, and if it wasnt for a few who stood up we wouldve lost comfortably given how much Collingwood dominated us for large portions of the game. Teams have clearly worked out a gameplan that works against us. That was the third game in a row we have been beaten in almost every key stat. Scott doesnt appear to have any answer for it. Are you really happy that the outcome so far this year is coming down to whether or not Dangerfield can turn it on and pull us over the line?

Theres my opinion on Scotts performance last night, im keen to hear your counter argument. Or are you just going to post more rubbish about being embarassed on an anonymous football forum? Clearly you care way more about that than i do, which says a lot about you. But its hardly surprising given how much of you "life" you spend on here.

I don’t have Geelong goggles on. Hill was stiff not to get HTB against Mannagh.

You can’t attempt a disposal when you’re immediately tackled.
If you have arm free to dispose of the ball you can.

  • 18.6.4 Holding the ball: No Genuine Attempt– Where a Player in Possession of the Football has not had Prior Opportunity, a field Umpire shall award a Free Kick if the Player is able to, but does not make a genuine attempt to Correctly Dispose of the football within a reasonable time when Legally Tackled.

Blitz looks like playing until his is 45.

I have a terrible footy memory but I do remember I was going to MCG games back then. Gaz Snr was unbelievably good. I also remember leaving the ground with my elderly parents in law. The Collingwood fans were very respectful around them.

He got injured pre-season.
Has had 1 VFL game back after months out. Then a VFL bye.

So while emergency he was clearly a 'break glass' emergency for last night. And Duncan who has been on the outer was selected instead.

He'll come back in soon enough.

Every betting agency had us as atleast $2.50 outsiders or more.
We just don't have the mid depth, and when you compete at the top end for virtually 20 years it becomes harder than other clubs to acquire. We got Smith in but had no way of anticipating what would happen to Bruhn. So this is our lot for 2025.

That was the third game in a row we have been beaten in almost every key stat. Scott doesnt appear to have any answer for it.
Answer and personnel are two different issues entirely. He doesn't have the midfield cattle to deal with it.
But he had the answer to win last night, commentary during the game noted his 2nd half tactical switch to deny Collingwood. He tagged Daicos to limit the influence of his disposals and multiple media outlets today have praised his ability to change last night's outcome.

Craig McCrae praised Scott post match

1 minute in.
Are you really happy that the outcome so far this year is coming down to whether or not Dangerfield can turn it on and pull us over the line?
That's your error for an inaccurate viewpoint. Yes Dangerfield has been great up forward but Atkins has been brilliant in midfield, as has Smith. Guthrie and Henry have been great down back. More than just Dangerfield has gone into getting to 5 wins.

As for being happy.. If Brisbane win tonight the top 3 sides will be Brisbane, Collingwood and Hawthorn. With the Suns and Crows rounding out the top 5. By tonight, with that specific result we'd have played 4 of them, all away from home and have a 3-1 record in that time.

In fact, add in our losses to Blues and Saints both also being away - and at venues they both play far better at - and we're 5-3 with only 2 home games having being played. So yeah I am happy. Our draw will have to be softer from here both from opposition strength to also having 8 games in Geelong.

Last night was a microcosm of why j Henry and Kolo are so important.

Our defence held up, and covered well for the loss of both of them plus Stewart.

But, there is no way Mihochek does what he did last night if either j Henry or Kolo are on him. The matchup with cos was not good for him, Henry or Kolo locks him down and there is no way he takes 3 or 4 contested pack marks against either of them. They would have just killed the contest, cos is not that type of defender.

It will be a good learning experience for him, but he is way more valuable as a floater (and ideally as a nightmare wing matchup).

Spot on Hinkely29:.... great call 👍

Woods are going to miss Daniel McStay for a time because in tandem, him and Brody Mihocek work well together and collectively are more dangerous. But yeah, throw in Jack Henry, Kolo and Stewart into that backline and we've got the Magpie forwards well and truly covered next time around. Also Hinkley29:..... getting games into our array of talented youngsters at present and especially winning big important games in 'finals type atmosphere' like last night against the Magpies is a huge bonus as they're only going to grow in confidence and get better. The cherry on top is 'IF' we can get Toby Conway up and firing at some stage in the second half of year as I've stated for sometime now that one day he'll be in the top 3 ruckman in the AFL and GO CATS !!!

PS - Some Geelong posters need to look at the bigger picture with regards to some of our youngsters and less experienced players, as in time many of them are going to be excellent AFL footballers. Some of the comments in particular on Oisin Mullin this season have lacked vision and foresight as there'll come a day when this kid is going to be an excellent AFL player and critical to us going forward, he just needs time but thankfully the coaches do see that in him and one day we'll ALL reap the rewards.

We need to take the Geelong goggles off.

Blitz picked up the ball, was tackled, had an arm free and just refused to even attempt a disposal. That is holding the ball 100%.
This is correct. Blicavs was definitely holding the ball. Arguably Mannagh and/or Smith should have moved in and forced the ball up, rather than waiting for the ball to come out to them. I think that's the biggest issue. But no doubt at all on watching the replay that this is a free kick against Blitz.

My take on the Blitz free against is the umpire wrongly awarded the free based on the first and second ball up/ throw up summarizing that the Geelong player had no intention of clearing the footy from the congestion (call it the vibe of the situation not the law of the AFL free kick.)

Just watching the last quarter again, the pressure in this game was out of this world. A complete classic. Stressful to watch at the end.

Giving them a chance to win when we were 3 goals up with 4 minutes to go was disappointing.

But I thought we were outplayed by them for a lot of the game. An absolute credit to the coaches and the players for finding a way to win.
It looked like men Vs boys a few times out there.
Games experience between the 2 teams last night would be huge you would think.

King was a dick last night but he also had a good point saying games like this add 20-30 games experience to the young players.
It was an average of 50 games more experience to the Magpies (and 2 years higher average age)

It's the left arm that clearly goes below the knee. In real time could have been paid either way. There was one paid against Mullin for in the back in the first half that was very stiff. You win some, you lose some.
and there was the clear in the back to Clark that got missed (commentary wetting themselves with excitement about him being "Piledrived" into the ground)

Blicavs HTB is fair IMO.
As is the Hill trip.

HOLDING THE BALL 18.6.1 Spirit and Intention The Player who has Possession of the Football will be provided an opportunity to dispose of the football before rewarding an opponent for a Legal Tackle.

18.6.2 Free Kicks - Holding the Ball: Prior Opportunity Where a Player in Possession of the Football has had Prior Opportunity, a field Umpire shall award a Free Kick if that Player does not Correctly Dispose of the football immediately when they are Legally Tackled.
18.6.3 Free Kicks - Holding the Ball: Incorrect Disposal Where a Player in Possession of the Football has not had Prior Opportunity, a field Umpire shall award a Free Kick if that Player elects to Incorrectly Dispose of the football when Legally Tackled.
For the avoidance of doubt, a Player does not elect to Incorrectly Dispose of the football when: (a) (b) the Player genuinely attempts to Correctly Dispose of the football; the Legal Tackle causes the football to be dislodged from the Player’s possession

Blicavs does not sufficiently dispose of the ball after having had prior opportunity. Cameron wrapped his arms for the tackle at first with Blicavs then having one arm free, one arm free with no attempt to dispose of the ball has been adjudicated as HTB for a while now. He had his prior and was correctly penalised with 18.6.2.

Hill failed to legally tackle Mannagh and was penalised

Legal Tackle or Legally Tackled:

a tackle by a Player where: (a) the Player being tackled is in possession of the football; and (b) that Player is tackled below the shoulders and above the knees.

For the avoidance of doubt, a Legal Tackle may be executed by holding (either by the body or playing uniform) a Player from the front, side or behind, provided that a Player held from behind is not pushed in the back.
