Review Cats into ANOTHER PRELIM (14 of 18) after beating Lions by 38 points

We can agree the optics weren't great.

Scott got verbal with a female staffer and had to apologise.

Smith got verbal with a female reporter and had to apologise.

They weren't smart and have given the press some ammo. We know the press don't need much to make a headline.

Scott and Smith would know that too.
Yes and we know it's all just chook feed so let's move on eh?

My flatmate knew Spiro Malakellis
Friday before calls him for a scoop.
Said "watch Dermie at Centre bounce"
the evener upperer was pre planned
Of course it was. Yeates had no intention of doing anything else than flattening Dermie. Credit to him he played on and snagged a couple early IIRC. Tough bastard but yet another P&W thug

All true, but apparently this one has been confirmed.

Scott lost his cool, berated someone, then apologised.

Not a good week for the GFC and the female population.

Edit: King was quite scathing about it being 'swept under the carpet'
I always find it ironic when a member of the media, who has all the details at their disposal, is literally on camera reporting news, and straight faced says the topic they are currently broadcasting nationally is being swept under the carpet

All I take notice of is the fact our CEO got involved in the apologies.

Says something.

Yeah it could say it's serious, or it could say he knows how to manage media

All I know is according to the media it's nothing if we win and a crime against humanity if we lose

The ones complaining 24x7 in the Media about their voices being "stifled". Everyone wants the "Victim" corner.

The thing about the Chris Scott allegation is that many players say Chris never loses his cool at them. What actually transpired? None of the "defenders" here know exactly. Neither do I. Why isn't Chris being given the benefit of the doubt like "the young female staffer"? If it was so outrageous why did it break a week after?

bring unwarranted attention in a lead-up to a final
At best, this is naive.

During Finals, the Media have an huge "Attention deficit" to fulfil (webpages, news/opinion hours, exclusives etc.). You don't have to do anything to have broadcast vans and telephoto lenses parked on GFC's front lawn, accosting staff/players for comments.

By engaging in their "where there's smoke, there's fire" speculation, you are providing the very oxygen that their (fake) fire needs to survive. You are complicit in "Trial by Media"

The Club apologising is not an admission. They want to nip this in the bud.

Puh-leeze, spare me Gary Lyon moralising about how anyone should conduct themselves.

I'm not complicit at all.

It's a fact that Scott got verbal with a female staffer and then apologised.

It's a fact that Smith got verbal with a female photographer and then apologised.

It's a fact that Scott and Smith are fully aware of the media's attention, and would understand the wisdom in not giving the media any cause to create a headline.

Neither incident had to happen.

It's not naive to acknowledge they happened, or to state the pov that it would've been better if it didn't occur.

That's all I said. And I never made mention of Gary Lyon.

Anyhow, they're done and dusted and we have a game to discuss.

C'mon Geelong!

The footy media has gotten to the point where most "journos" act like they are as important to the sport when you could replace any of them tomorrow off the main networks and most of them wouldn't be missed.
There are many here who are just as knowledgeable and passionate about the game. Heck, our very own Generalissimo writes great copy!

I wasn't sure if this was a reference to Xander McGuire
Yeah Xander McGuire was the first name that sprang to mind.

Between him and Tom Morris it's a competition to see who can chase the ambulance the fastest. I decided a long time ago just to switch off from mainstream media. It's just a talk fest to fill air time and by the time they get to the main news bulletin it's old news anyway.

Good on both of them for carving out careers in the competitive AFL media landscape, but neither really strike me as great football minds. They're just headline chasers. But the news outlets are happy with that as it continues to feed the simple minds who rely on outdated models to get their dose of "informed opinion".

They aren't great footy brains, they provide no interesting insights or perspectives on the game or individual players, most have their roles because they are nepo babies.

And on top of that they all get significant airtime despite a complete and utter lack of charm or charisma.

Is it too much to hope Worpel will do an Isaac Smith, miss a goal after the final siren + join Geelong next season?

Asking for a friend.
