Bit of extra polish and we win despite the backline being decimated. Hard to tell watching on the tele but SDK looked like he was trying to play the Stewart role but ended up looking like a bloke who just smashed a six-pack before heading for a surf. It's a lot of responsibility being given to guys back there who'd normally have Stewart, Henry and Kolo taking the key roles.

The Miers and Blicavs ones at the death especially. Two basic skills executed and we win by a goal.

If the umpire let's dangerfield take the kick instead of blitz (which he was trying to) we win. But it's our own fault

I think we can comfortably say having 4/6 best defenders missing would have probably made the result swing a kick..
He won't see it. Obsessed with misdiagnosing our midfield being dominated, despite our true weakness being defending transition from opposition defence (after intercepts). That was where our weak defence continued getting exploited as they lost 1v1s.

And what abut their outs and missing Greene for the remaining 10 minutes?

They have better depth to cover outs than us so the injury lists advantage them more.

Sam De Koning is one of the most gutless, mentally weak footballers I've ever seen.

Ollie Henry is probably a lovely bloke, but he just doesn't have IT.

A few soft efforts when players need to put their body on the line, including Close near the end.

Stengle really needed to kick that matchwinner with his poor season so far.

Baz, Dempsey, Holmes and a few others can keep their heads held high. Annoying because we outplayed them but poor goalkicking cost us.
Well said - if you're not willing to give 100% effort for the team then just F OFF!

Why doesn’t OHenry get 50? Great chase down holding the ball tackle. Goes to pick up the ball and gets pushed over. No 50? Absolute rubbish
Can ask the same about the Mannagh one
Tries to push the guy off him so he can take his kick and gets pushed back down

How is that legal

Didn't really expect Geelong to win. Good effort in the end with a ragtag team. GWS had a much better team on paper and better skills. Geelong's skill errors make it hard to enjoy watching a game. I think we all expected Hogan might be a big factor and he was. Blicavs and Stengle missing relatively easy set shots handed it to GWS. However GWS led most of the day and deserved to win. Bews was ok, Clark is nowhere near AFL. No specialist ruckman. Not sure where we go from here.

I like O'Sullivan, but someone needs to tell him he shouldn't be trying to affect every contest in the backline. That last one he tried to go third man up at but got nowhere near it, only to leave his direct opponent to waltz into an open goal was extremely telling in the wash-up.

Blicavs had a decent game in the ruck but he's never been a good set shot on goal. I wasn't even excited when he took the mark. Most of our tackling efforts were piss poor, that and basic skill errors have cost us in every loss this season.
I really hoped the umpire accidentally gave that mark to danger which isn't something I thought i would ever say about my confidence in dangers set shots

4 of our best back 6 out and we still almost pinched it.

There are a thousand ways we could have won it (Clohesy on sooner, Mannagh hitting shots, Dangerfield not trying to pass off to Neale etc etc) but none of it really matters.

Ran them hard with a young team and nearly got the chocolates.
Mannagh’s poor field kicking worse than his missed shots. Apart from his 2 goals he was dreadful with the ball.

Normal looking Injury list to me what they have.

A player here and there you can cover… but when you take 4/6 experienced players out of a defense or forward half you usually in trouble.

No way hogan kicks 7 if we had our back half there. Stewart wouldn’t have allowed that

Sdk looked like he smoked a joint before the game.
Mannagh far too hungry.

On a positive - How good is Bailey smith.

I suggested earlier that SDK might need to see a psychologist.

I was serious.

He is a shadow of his former self.

You are full of yourself. Seriously. You were tagging me every 30 minutes in the game-day thread.

I don't know how any Geelong supporter can honestly sit back and say that our midfield is not the issue.

Yes, we had no Henry but Stewart's been piss poor for a year already. He's 32 going on 33. If he gets back to the player he was, great, but we've been losing while in the team.
Humphries was a big loss but in the third quarter, they won all the critical stats needed which put the game on their terms.

Let's hope Henry is back asap.
O'Sullivan looks tired and De Koning is not progressing into the player he was touted to become in 2022.

Reckon we miss Gary Rohan's chase-down speed in the forward line.

I'd still have him playing in front of Henry if he was on the list.

The pill just rebounds out of our F50 with ease.
I'll instead offer you Henry who watches marking contests hoping his opponent spills the mark to his advantage.

Ours are very compounded to one spot on the ground which makes it a lot more difficult…

You lose a mid + a forward + another mid… ok sure…

but you lose a defender… then another defender… then another and another… you start to have a huge gaping hole appearing that needs stitches as opposed to a bandaid.
