The reality is and few would argue that Geelong should have won a few flags since 1963, they have had the sides and played in enough GFs to do so...but havent due to a certain lack of professionalism which is true.

Luck sometimes plays a part also. Tiger's player Swift marking the ball over the goal line in the 1967 GF but no score paid deep into that last quarter...Leigh Colberts' mark disallowed in 1997 the momentum shifts and the Crows go on to win the flag that year...If the 1989 GF went a few minutes longer...sometimes luck plays a part too. Yabby Jeans was a big believer in luck so careful what you say about luck.
Nice post, but I can't agree. The reality is we weren't good enough when it mattered. As is every side when they lose. You can always find excuses if you look hard enough. St.Kilda are the same now. They've had chances 3 years running and blown them all.

It's comforting for some Geelong supporters to say how great Hawthorn undoubtedly were in 1989, or West Coast in 1992, etc, but it's bullsh*t. You simply have to find a way to win, and far too many people associated with the club for too long weren't ruthless enough to demand success and nothing else. Even now there are some moronic fans who get offended if we dare criticise them (Thompson's inept coaching, Ling's inept......everything). That attitude amazes me.

The only goal is to finish first. When you don't, you've failed. Simple as that.

You have to be ruthless, you need to criticise to get the best out of someone but unfortunately your review was a waste of time. Thompson needs to be removed and a lot of the downhill skiers need to be sacked.

Mate you're preaching to the converted. Unfortunately we're in a culture now where you have reviews and nothing happens. Carlton did the same thing with Pagan.

I know whow I would get rid of, and I know who other Geelong fans would get rid of... In all seriousness though, if you were in charge of the Geelong Football Club, who would you get rid of? Who do you consider to be the 'downhill skiers'?

Their is no doubt that Geelong and St kilda were the big losers in the new rule change both had geared their side for crash and bang style of Football,it's a wait and see if they have got any pace to the teams.

Carlton can continue to tear themselves apart, keep Pagan and fight internally. I'm happy to see them continue suffering.

I'll be interested to see if the players respond to Thompson this season. Matty Scarlett was a big wrap for him in the off-season, so he'll have to put his hand up this year in his play and as a leader if he wants to save his job.
