Cats promoted
16 October 2007 Herald Sun
Scott Gullan

GARY Ablett's housemate, Jason Davenport, has been upgraded to Geelong's senior list.

The 22-year-old midfielder, who has been on the Cats rookie list for the past 12 months, starred for the VFL side in its premiership season.

He will be joined on the senior list by Tom Lonergan, whose courageous comeback after losing a kidney was capped by best-on-ground honours in the VFL grand final.

Defender Matthew Spencer and former Bomber Sam Hunt are likely to join the four Cats players moved on during trade week.

Although this is old news for BF fans, so what does it mean.

We have lost 6 to delistings or trades.

Picked up 2 from the rookie list thus far, so down to 4 spots on the list.

As per AFL laws, we must select 3 picks in the draft, which means only one spot left, and if possible, two rookie spots.

Rookie spots don't have to be filled ?? Not sure on that one.

I don't think Grima can be re-rookied, but there is still one spot available, can we promote him also ?? What about Bedford, he seemed to be ok.

Appreciate any thoughts ?? Do I have this right ??

Good to see some confirmation.

rabbi, I daresay that Spencer and Hunt will be delisted. Grima may also be delisted, not sure what the situation is there. I am surprised that he hasn't been elevated but I wonder if he might be delisted and then re-rookied? Wouldn't be the first time that has happened.

I think the rookie spots will be filled as there is no reason not to. It is a supplementary list so rookie players dont count to the salary cap. Also I believe the AFL brought in a cash bonus for clubs that have the max rookies in the last couple of years? And it is not like geelong is now the struggling club that can afford to pay players so may as well see if we can unearth some more talent in the rookies.

Yeah this guy's a gun and has been for a while. Good choice to elevate him. Speaking of promotions, do you think Geelong will finally get some more free-to-air games this year?
you would think that would be a yes given the season we've had. i'd expect pretty much every other club would put in a request to play us in prime time on free to air.
not really looking forward to being at a game thats covered by channel 7 tho. i recall the long breaks in between goals being pretty frustrating
