Got to watch the replay and if you get a chance pay attention to Stanley in the middle of the last quarter. He was fantastic.

Without going into play by play he had multiple hit outs to advantage ,( setting up Dempseys much needed goal)., the pack mark and goal, tough ground ball get and tackle leading to centre clearances and even linked up down back for an important clearance when Eagles were pressing.

Stood up when needed.
Having an amazing twilight career. Been great.

Stanley looks very fit, lean but muscular. He didn’t take the easy route pre season.

re earlier, here in audio form is the saga of Zach Tuohy commenting Jeremy Cameron on KRock.
(alas the file link expires in 24 hours but you get the idea)

We have a new leader in the Coaches' votes. Still unsure if he'd crack the Bulldogs best 23 but a nice first half of the season in the bag.

Ginbey getting a vote seems like a classic C Scott sympathy vote to me.

I love a patronising participation vote from our leader.

Re COS - what sort of roles up the field to you see for him?

In my view he looks like a key defender who just needs to put on a bit of size to compete with the really big key forwards.

But I didn't realize how much leg speed he had. That run through the centre last night was blistering. Big guys with speed and skills are a huge asset with the way the game is played today. I can definitely see him having massive versatility in years to come.

Pity he didn't finish that run with a good pass to free forward options instead of off the boot to opposition mark. It looked off the side of his boot, and he's done the same thing previously. Holmes does it too. It's almost like they get so carried away with their run that the delivery kick is just a hapless culmination. Or they overthink it. Both are beautiful long kicks too, just needs some poise and smarts.

BTW: Nobody has mentioned him, he's sort of the silent achiever: but I thought Zac Guthrie had an outstanding game.

Are you saying he was the 6th best player on the ground (out of both teams)?

I would strongly disagree with that assertion.
I'm saying I don't care what the coaches votes have spat out here. My eyes say Ginbey had Jez well held until his team fell apart late.

Lordo this morning praised his performance. Jez last night said the same, and it wasn't modesty on screen as he said that's what he told Ginbey post-game.

Never felt we were ever going to lose, but as I expected we made it a lot harder than it needed to be.

Our intent was good, but our execution and decision making at times is what fed WC all night. They capitalised on some awful turnovers in terrible positions on the ground.

Our ability to finish games is a very good sign though suggesting not only confidence within the group but the fitness to finish right over sides as we've seen for the majority of the season.

When we won the flag in 22, we beat them there by three goals in an even worse performance than last night. We weren't anything based off that game in isolation, yet we did. All that matters really is the win as we head into the winter grind.

I certainly never forgot Charlie C was a Crow, he kicked 5 goals in the 2017 PF to help smash us to kingdom come.

Maybe it was the post season bruhaha the Crows endured but can you imagine releasing a young 5-goal in a PF small forward the following season? Crazy, although at least we got good value out of Tim Kelly with his 30 and 3 in the 2019 PF, helping is get Jeremy. But that was a huge loss for the Crows.
Tim also tore it up in the semi-final that year, against West Coast funnily enough. That game was also Esava Ratugolea's best game as a Cat if I remember it right. Kicked 3 or 4 goals and pulled down some ripping marks.

On the Couch demonstrated the defensive issue we have statistically with their “Premiership Window” metric.

We were inside after R7 but have fallen out since. We are now roughly where we finished 2024.

With 8 of 11 remaining against the fodder of the league - including 6 at home good chance we're in that quadrant by years end.

Means little at this stage unless you could normalise for fixture difficulty. You want to be somewhat close to that quadrant but sides will shuffle around a lot within the 10 or so who are in it or close.

Sorry but my eyes went straight to the yellow and brown who are supposedly heading us and laughed at those turnips being anywhere near the eight.

Other than that, the upcoming game against the Suns will see how good we are defensively in the moment, and that's all that counts every week.

Your first line in your previous post was asserting that Ginbey deserved votes. Then you say you don’t care about the votes.

Because apparently it is meaningful if some bloke named Lordo (whoever that is) gave him praise, and jez threw him a bone after game.

I love when bigfooty gets weird

Llordo is Matthew Lloyd, some chump who used to play for Essedon (remember, the first 'n' is silent) and is usually on extremely good terms with himself.

Ditto. You are being very weird.
Giving praise to an opposition player shouldn't be taboo.

He won his matchup. Some junk time goals doesn't change that.
I said I don't care about the votes they spat out, perfectly in line with thinking RG deserved some.

For mine, I think the team on Sunday night is the 23 (plus Danger and Bews) is the team we’re working with through to the finals. We are going to go with Mullin, Ollie H, Close and Neale - regardless of form and inconsistency- as each play an important part in their own way. Clohesy gives way for Danger but is first reserve for a mid. I also think that Bews is more important to the balance of the team, first in for a back. Kolo, Martin, Cuthrie, Clark are all long shots, at best either for fitness and/or readiness.

I think CS mentioned that most sides are looking at this stage for a squad of 28-30 who can carry them through to finals.

Danger is the only obvious one to come in.

Bowes a likely one to come back in after injury too.

Duncan and Stanley, even Bews, have been huge bonuses this year with the way they've performed.

Then I would say we have question marks next to a few who have been exposed to the first team this year Knevitt and Clark, Clohesy too - does Scott trust them to do a job in finals?

Question marks next to a few others who are becoming available in CGuth and Martin. Established players who we will be wanting to give some games to before finals to see if their bodies can stand up to it.

Kolodjashnij is one who if fit would surely come in, but where's he at?

And then a couple of rucks who are like mystery chess pieces too right now in Conway and Edwards. Wouldn't surprise me if they don't feature at all this year. But it also wouldn't really surprise me if one of them comes in on the eve of finals in ripping shape and blows everyone away.

catempire: I just don't see our defensive side being an issue 'at all' from here-on unless we have another wickedly poor run of back-line injuries, in fact by seasons end I see it as being one of our major strengths. Unfortunately, with the first part of season through a number of enforced injuries we've had a lot of interruptions to the defensive side which led understandably to a lack of continuity, yet I still feel we've done exceptionally well given the circumstances, plus it was also our hardest part of draw. Come 2nd half of season and leading into finals catempire: which includes a much easier draw, it will be very, very different looking graph and story..... and GO CATS !!!
