That was incredibly frustrating. We really panicked and missed so many chances when we should have put them away.

The main takeaway is we need to move heaven and earth to get Reid into the club.

We already are. But it won't happen this year. Come back in 12 months.

Good patches and ordinary patches. At this time of the year just bank the wins. Gc and Brisbane games will tell us more about where we are at. If we win those we are a Monty for top 4 given the draw we have after the bye. Drop them both and we are back in the pack.

Most of tonight was ho hum but was good to see stengle wake up after a few quiet weeks and osullivan is going to be one heck of a player. He might just be more critical than Dempsey (as good as Dempsey is) given the value of intercept marks in the modern game.

Hard to know if we were just farking around in 3rd gear for most of the game, or the Eagles generally played super well above expectations. Maybe a bit of both.

Winning ugly but still winning. A few guys lifted in the second half and ended up being a pretty solid all-round performance in the last quarter.

His ability to contest aerially to intercept or stop a mark and then spring back up to his feet and run forward is cat like. Very unusual for a player that size. He needs to put some size on as we saw against gws he can struggle in wrestles but once he does that he's going to be a top line player.

I don't think our backline is big enough for SDK and COS once Jkolo comes back.

Deserved to be further in front and then didn't deserve to be that far in front. Otherwise job done. Bigger fish to fry and suns to eclipse.

Lucky we didn't rest Smith and Duncan. Both were critical to the win.

The MC obviously didn't underestimate this as a potential banana peel game.

If we kicked straight earlier we likely would've coasted all game. We gave them a sniff at home and the Eagles are capable if you do that. They ran out of puff late as expected.

Duncan is having a great year and Stengle is on the way back to his best too.

Dash Brothers great, although a fair few scrappy disposals.

Defending (including running back from midfield, wing, half forward) needs to improve.

Anyway, we take the 4 points and move on. Every decent team is having games like this here and there.

The personnel is better than we've had in a long time (osullivan and humphries really help and oconnor is back in form) but I share catempire Concerns re the system. With the stand rule now some teams with young legs can move the ball really quick and it's teams that do this that can catch us in trouble out the back and we've seen it multiple times this year. We will be fine after the bye as most games are at gmbha and the thin ground is easier for us to defend but if we are going to win 3 finals at the mcg we are going to need to change the way we defend and I'm not 100 % confident we will.

This isn’t an observation on one game. We are 11th for scores conceded this season. Probably 10th after games even out.

We didn't defend and for much of the game our plan seemed to be to wait for them to **** it up.

Yep- when Holmes eventually manages to deliver the ball to someone in the forward line, after his great runs along the wing, it’s going to be great to see. And he will.
