Yep- when Holmes eventually manages to deliver the ball to someone in the forward line, after his great runs along the wing, it’s going to be great to see. And he will.
His kicking has showed improvement at times this season.

But then something games he just wants to go for 1000m gained at all costs, and the long bombs aren't to advantage.

We could do with someone that has immaculate skills in midfield. Holmes and Smith are great in many areas besides polish (at times).

Can’t recall a game where we missed so many handballs, kicks were too high, etc for a long time. Glad to bank the win, but we could have won far more comfortably.

Did anyone else see team song? Smith squirts water at Jack Henry’s face and immediately chastised by the whole team. Henry looked pissed afterwards. I suspect Smith isn’t the easiest team mate….

Fully agree. Max racked up metres but his kicking in to the forward 50 lacked accuracy and gave Eagles several scores from turnovers.

Want to see Clohesy given a full game next week. Mullin can be sub.

Mullin will be tagging Rowell or Anderson who will destroy us otherwise.
But I agree I'd like to see Ted given a full game he deserves it. We may rotate off the 6 day break.

Our centre bounce work is greatly improved on last year. That is the positive going into second half of the year.

We are being opened up too easily, and it is not all the defenders fault. However, maybe don’t quite have the balance right between rebounders and defenders.

There is a role for the unfashionable Bews and Kolo still.

I think Stewart and COS together is a bad combo.

Hmm. That's because they were specifically told not to do it.
Baz of course was elsewhere then, but needs the memo.

Would like them to play that last quarter pass from Duncan on repeat as a perfect example of how to kick to forwards: soft, let the forward come at the ball. Too many hard bullets into forwards tonight.
Duncan's ball use/decision making was at a level well above most of the other 45 players out there (8 score involvements, no turnovers, 90% efficiency).

Miers and Stengle were exceptional too. In a match that got scrappy, those players were crucial to us actually breaking West Coast open.

Also nice to see some young listed players in the Magoos showing that they could very well be future AFL players.
Retschko and Stevens keep performing well, and the rested Polkinghorne looks a player.

Kind of reminds me of the game we played over there in 2022. They pushed us all the way but we just had a little bit too much for them.

That said, our defence seemed out of sorts in that second and third quarter. Not just talking about the back 6, but the zoning and/or lack of pressure up the field let them work it up the ground pretty easily too many times. Unfortunately for them, it's also labour-intensive and they didn't have the legs. Noticed we were happy to slow it down in the third while they kept going up for it, so smart coaching.

Really should've been more if we'd taken a few more chances in the first quarter.

Think Stengle's getting back into his groove. Dropped a few ones he'd normally take, but very active and his goal radar was more on and then off.

Also one of O Henry's better games for the season. Yeah, it's a super-low bar right now, but he kicked a couple, laid some good tackles, and gave off a nice pass to set up Cameron. This really needs to be the minimum right now. Speaking of Henrys, his brother right now is our rock in defence. With Stewart a little out of sorts, he's holding things together.

On defenders...loved COS run and carry! He's doing it a little but it really jumped out tonight. Disposal was a little scrappy (handball to Stanley was a shocker) but it's smart to be pumping games into him. Excited to see what he's capable of next year.

A few people queried whether Dempsey got a rocket at 3QT, because he went from being invisible to being hugely influential in the last.

But overall, glad to just bank the win and fly home with no injuries. Big game next week - hard to judge how tricky the Suns will be, but definitely harder than the Eagles.
