This is pretty poor from Dempsey - deserves his fine and hopefully we won't see this from him again

It would be worse if he did it before the mark and got a free for it , but yeah, that's an intended delayed reaction maybe looking for 50 metres. Not the worst crime I've seen, and no one likes getting their chin tickled- but there goes his donut money for this week.

Anyone else notice vision of Oliver having lengthy chats with Stewart Stanley and Danger both during and after the game.

Probably asking Stanley if he needed any help on the farm. And was practically trying to get Dangerfield pregnant.

Still think he’s very short odds to be at Geelong next year. The more the Dees stink it up the more he’s out. Dees will go full rebuild and he’ll be part of the fire sale.

Would rather Trac, he doesn't look happy!

He's playing like Grandad Simpson, and they are deservedly stuck with him on megabucks. Let him stay there.

The question: is Oliver a high quality midfielder any more? We haven’t seen it for a long time now.

We don’t need another smith (ie. a decent foot soldier). We need a true front line midfielder. A game breaking midfield leader.

I don’t think Oliver is that player anymore.

His attitude stinks. The look of disgust when Stengle marked in front of him in the last quarter was telling. He needs to be team first instead of worrying about getting his name in the goal kickers
He should take notes from one G Rohan

Not sold on Oliver really. Rather waste money on someone else..unless we can get him for peanuts

I'm definitely on Ollie fan. But this kind of imprecise statement is veering dangerously close to the logic that was employed by some to defend Shane Kersten's role in the team back in the day.

I don't think modern football allows for players who spend almost all of their time in the forward half and don't generally trouble the stats sheet. I did see him impact a few situations in this game that may not have generated a stat at all. But there is a reason why there is no position in any pundit's team of the week for 'best decoy forward'.
SK had elite running patterns

I always remember watching Playfair in a VFL game and he missed a goal from directly in front, a guy next to me said Playsh*thouse more like it

How many spuds did we offload to the Swans in those years? Playfair, Spriggs, Brockman, Gerrard Bennett, Torture Chambers. That said, Playfair's last half a season he was plucked out of retirement because the Swans had injuries to their whole ruck division and most of their spine, and battled hard without excelling but also without lowering his colours. Much like Rhys Stanley for us the last two years. I'll give him a respectful nod for that at least.

How good is Dangerfield or more like sensational his career at Geelong

Only read the last 2-3 pages of the thread so its most likely allready been mentioned but what it is his birthday today - turned 35 , and still playing sensational football

Dont want to get into the debate as to whether he is better than Ablett jnr , but as a Cats supporter i like him more than Ablett , that is just my opinion

His 10th season at Geelong, a true champion of our club, and absolutely wrapped he got the flag he deserved in 2022, let’s hope he can snag 1 more before hanging up the boots.

I know the end can come quick but Danger has another year or 2 in him, is still so damaging. Doesn’t need to have 25-30 anymore, 15-20 touches and a couple goals is still great.

Agree
Neale not getting respect from some but getting a lot of respect from the opposition- gets blocked and held all the time, they don't want him running and jumping at the footy.......
and this is also played into with Jezza going walkabout up the field... if the Defense is rolling a tall to a mid when Jezza leaves F50 that means there is another tall that will gravitate to Neale or his space and creating a 1 on 2 for him.

GO Catters

I dont watch non geelong games much anymore (too many other things going on in my life) so i didnt know much about bailey smith coming into this season.

unless he is uncharacteristically below his best at the moment he aint a gun is he? Certainly wont ever be a top twenty in the comp player. Might not ever be all australian level as a mid.

And he is more inside then I thought with not much outside damage factor (lots of scrappy handballs that dont hit their target too). Certainly nothing like holmes or danger in terms of x factor. Seems more at the peak cam guthrie and mitch duncan talent level then anything else. Maybe slightly better.

Great that we have him. Certainly need players like him in the mids. But he doesnt match the pre season hype. Am i alone on this assessment?

Smith has played to a much higher level than Oliver this season, despite his disposal in the 2nd half of the Brisbane game being Oliver-esque.

He can actually run and generate meaningful attacks. Oliver is closer to a current day Travis Boak or Callan Ward, except a bit more prolific and with worse disposal quality.

Coming back from an ACL and hasn't played much in the last 18 months. Not sure what else you expected?
