Review Cats stone Crows with 19 point win

Thought this was interesting.

Over half the side at less than 100 games on both side of the ledger.

Could mean we're in for a few years or more of solid games against the Crows.

Also interesting we've got nobody in the 150-200 category
View attachment 2280173

We currently have the following players in that 150 -> 200 game bracket:
  • Jack Martin, 151
  • Jed Bews, 171
  • Tom Stewart, 174
  • Jake Kolodjashnin, 198

By seasons end, we'll likely see the following added to that games bracket:
  • Jack Henry, 147
  • Gryan Miers, 136
  • Tom Atkins, 132

Grew up in SA. Can confirm. Often in pubs when arguments arose between Port / Crows fans, the Crows fans would just start shouting "119" over and over again, and there I was, over in the corner, not telling anybody I was a Cats fan and enjoying the moment.
Yeah in my experience it is the almighty third premiership to a lot of Crows fans 😂

First let me shout out the Cats website and whomever the video admin is, or anyone else at the club. Thanks so much for putting the game replay up. :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

Second, might have missed someone else saying it, but I thought Bowes was also big in 2Q. Almost had a bid of aggro as well. He was in the thick of things, got a goal.

COS had a lovely, Stewart like effort where he helped spoil a mark, then followed it along the line to another contest that put it out of bounds. Very nice.

On watching the replay, it's great to see how fired up Jezza was in that final quarter. And how pumped he was with the win. Watch him clearly say: "that's what I'm f*&^ing talking about" on the final siren".

Especially nice in the context of this reporting from the SMH: "With his team eight points down as he left the huddle at three-quarter-time, Cats’ forward Jeremy Cameron and skipper Patrick Dangerfield sauntered into the forward line. Between them, the pair have a Brownlow Medal, a Coleman Medal, six club best-and-fairest awards, 12 All-Australian blazers and were teammates in the 2022 premiership. Dangerfield took in what the laconic, occasionally distracted, always capable Cameron had to say. “He said ‘this is what we are paid to do. This is the time to turn the game’,” Dangerfield recalled post patch. “We are senior leaders within the team … we kicked two early and everyone else jumped on board. It was a great example of leadership from him.” Cameron kicked the first two goals of the quarter, Dangerfield kicked the next two. Within 10 minutes, the imperious pair had put the game out of the Crows reach.

Sensational win against a team with their tails up on their home deck.
Our midfield held sway , go figure 😁

Would love to see COS gps numbers - he was everywhere. Had a couple of almost moments forward , love the way this kid plays.
He may need a spell at some stage but he ain't getting dropped the way he's playing.
Wonder if these help?

This is one of the main reasons we've avoided bottoming out. The club often sacrifices the pinnacle of performance in order to blood youth while there's still a wide window for the youngsters to be mentored. Imagine the insane value for guys like Holmes / COS / Miers / SDK coming up in a team with Selwood / Danger / Stewart / Hawkins.

It's one of the reasons WCE will struggle to get out of the basement.

I think the crows and their fans need to move on from excuses. A bad decision or a 5 day break is not going to be season defining. Cats have had their share of losses through various factors and still made prelims or won flags. Good teams just get on with it.
Well said 👏

It’s the AFL, they have full replays for all games online
Not for overseas, last year they did. The year before no. If it were an AFL directive for clubs to allow full replays without country limits then :thumbsupv1: to the AFL.

I'm not like Daz, to be willing to shell out for the subscription. :winkv1:

I got a sneaky link while I was overseas so I could watch matches. Iirc saw a St Kilda match live from Santorini. One of the best internet cafes I've ever been to, too. Cheap as well

When surrounded by players, Bailey Smith has the ability to pick up the ball and get his boot to it. It doesn’t always result in a great kick but it clears the ball and is better than a tap or ineffectual handball that a lot of players do. It probably is a factor in criticism about his kicking effectiveness but to me it gets the ball moving to our advantage.
I’ve noticed Bailey doing that too. He’s remarkable under pressure. Often when being tackled he manages to handball too. As you said, doesn’t always result in a great kick. . .or as I add handball, his releasing of the ball is dynamic. When it works it’s fantastic. If not, still creates an opportunity for players to force a turnover.

After only fives games, Baz has really settled well, gelling with team cohesion, confidence has increased, always encourages players, his gut running + pace, accuracy in kicks + handballs has improved + his loyalty is amazing.

Love Baz even more for defending Dangerfield + explained his reason well in the interview.

Just back into civilisation after 5 days chasing Barramundi in a fairly cut off area of QLD as far as news goes. I have just watched a replay of the game Thursday night boy can that Dangerfield kid play top win real team effort what happened to Stewart he didn't play?

Reported as gastro - seems SA doesn't agree with him

His amazing loyalty was one of the reasons we lured him over from WB I believe. :D

I agree with this. The quality of his disposal is actually quite mixed - sometimes great, sometimes good, sometimes not - but often the poor disposal is a result of the conditions he's working in. He's really good under pressure and excellent at extracting the ball from chaos. I love that part of his game and would rather he get it out and heading our way that the opposition take it away.
