What you say seems intuitively correct. But the GWS win today directly supported Alfonz 's argument I thought.

GWS are dripping with skill, speed and class. That was crucial. But the feature of their gamestyle which enabled them to smash the Swans was their frenzied tackling - they laid 96 tackles, which is insane - and a defensive steel taught to them by the greatest exponent of Ross Lyon football, Lenny Hayes:

Coach Leon Cameron was glowing in his praise. "I thought the best part about our game today was that we tackled really well, and that’s the thing that was probably a question mark over us coming in," he said. "Lenny Hayes has done an enormous amount of work with them on the defensive side of the game and they stood up today."
