Keep Reilly down back, at least we have solved our kick in dilema
Get Goodwin away from there, looked sluggish and lost
Petrenko could be the forward crumber we need especially if he could kick straight
Vince in for a big year, looks cool and composed
Otten showed signs but

overall our skills were very ordinary which could be excused given the time of the year, the opposition and the youth in the team, but Im worried the real issue is our disposal overall is ordinary. Too many players with sus disposal.

Definatly wasn't as bad as I expected, all things considering.
If Port lose tomorrow do we play them next week at footy park?

No. Crows will now play West Coast next Friday night at Traeger Park in Alice Springs.

I'll be going to the Swans/Port game tomorrow. Will be cheering loudly for the Red & White, though I don't give them a snowball's chance in hell of winning given the number of first 22 players who will be MIA.

Moran looked pretty shit in defensive contests. Looked ok taking the ball out of defence though.
Oh wow, I was getting so angry with him!!!
I don't really like him down back.

We play West Coast at Dingowoopwoop.
so any chance they will play home at all before the real stuff starts?

Petrenko looked dangerous up forward, but his goalkicking action isn't great. Doesn't hold the ball steady in his run-up. Waves it all over the place. Should have really kicked both goals. Still, first gamer - we'll see how he goes.

Petrenko was only on for a half but he got at least a dozen possessions so good signs for him missed some getable golas but hell everyone tonight missed getable goals!

Jacky had his moments so did Martin

otten was solid too!

there are definately positives if anyone thought we'd actually win this game they were deluded I Think 35 points is a fair effort it could have quite easily been around 80!

Reilly looked good down back I have to say! and why can our defence (Stevens) kick set shots with ease and our forwards shanked a hell of a lot!

loved Gill's 9 pointer biggest shank looked like crap.... went straight through the middle he's a freak!

Jimmy sellar actually look alright i was surprised, the other positive was hentschel i would play both of them for the whole regular season.

The negatives were
- the lack of a star young player showing what he can do
- the game plan, we were often outnumbered in our defence
- And the way we take the ball forward with big long kicks to packs

I actually thought our forward line pressure was a lot better than last year. When we were bombing most of the time it was to the advantage of our players. Definately improving. Would've been good to see Walker on for more than half a quarter but that will come sooner than later I suppose.

Nah. He is a backline player.

has never been a good goalkicker.

Kelli Underwood - "I've got a nickname for Mackay......D-Mack :D "

Tim Lane - "Count it"

I was watching the game by myself and still felt awkward when this happened.
She seems better suited to late night news bulletins.

Positives:

- Petrenko, Cook and Martin all have a little thing that some of their more experienced, bigger-bodied teammates could learn from...intensity. While all three made some obvious errors there is something to work with here. After watching tonight, i am not too concerned by Martin's size. He doesn't shirk any issue both defensively AND when he has the ball. Unlike some blokes who rack up stats going backwards (eg Doughty) he takes the game on. A keeper imo.

- Hentschel survived and looked OK given the circumstances. You don't lose talent.

- Johncock is well and truly back. Looks awesome out there. AA not beyond him. Early call but the signs are very promising. Practically a new recruit this year.

- Walker looked promising on Scarlett. If he stays sound i see no reason why he cannot kick 40 goals (given his usual efficiency).

- Edwards is an amazing professional. Only decent experienced player tonight, along with...

- Stevens, showed his invaluable versatility again.

- Vince. While he didn't do enough he has a special ability our other mids don't. I think it has something to do with the ability to look up forward and kick long to advantage.

Negatives:

- Some signs from Jacky and Sellar but both need a lift in intensity. Almost as if Sellar is trying too hard he muffed almost every disposal but showed slight improvement. Still a doubtful prospect unfortunately.

- Doughty. Early in the year but he looks too comfortable with a new contract and leadership recognition. Please go forwards some of the time.

- Griffin. Really have massive doubts over the big fella. maybe once he gets his confidence up he may do OK in the centre bounce (though has his weight gain reduced his leap?) but his around the ground work and athleticism is way overrated and reminds me of Justin Madden or some other dino from years gone by.

- Moran's body work is as we all recognise. Soft. His attacking play out of defence does look promising. So much to like. So much to hate. I am convinced he has a role but i am not sure if FB is it.

- Kite embarrassing early but means nothing in the long term.

- Plenty of other negatives but its R1 NAB so will see how we improve in the next few weeks.

Who else thought she said "Demon"?? lol I was like whaaaat?
But she's behind the times - that was his nickname last year, this year the players call him "the Butcher"...no idea why though

I have to disagree with the views of Jacky. Thought he was good on the half fwd flank. Provided some good leads and put on some pressure. Has good disposal by foot too.

Is there any info on Walker's injury? How serious is it? All AFC.com.au says is that he collided knees with Selwood.

The boundary rider on Triple M spoke with Walker himself in the rooms after the game (although that part was not broadcast) and apparently it was just a bad knock suffered in the collision with Selwood and Tex has been cleared of any ligament damage.:thumbsu:

I guess it's one of those wait and see as to how bad the bruising and swelling presents itself in the next few days. I would expect us to err on the side of caution and not play him if he's not at 100% especially with only a 6 day turnaround to the West Coast game in Alice Springs.

Second

I thought he looked a fair bit more composed than his couple of games last year. Good signs i think. We need him to become a Stokes-like player.

Edit: I can't imagine Alice Springs being a good place to play if you have even the slightest knee injury. I'm picturing a match next to Uluru!

I agree he was far from terrible. Looked OK pressing up the ground. may have a future as a clean kicking HFF/Wing/Mid type but i just cannot see him as a damaging, goal-kicking small forward.

I'd be looking to Cook, Martin or even Petrenko above Jacky for that specific role.

Yes, I hope he doesn't play in Alice Springs. Give him a week off. Thanks for that man!

I thought Kellie Underwood was fine. She didn't talk too much crap, knew the players and called the play well. Didn't seem to have any particular bias in her calling and just outlined what was happening. I thought her comment about David Mackay was actually her asking Tim Lane whether he knew D-Macs nickname, rather than telling saying she had made the name up. She was up against it either way as most of us are not used to hearing a female footy commentator. If it has been a bloke making his debut I doubt any of us would have even noticed.

I reckon Sellar has got one thing going for him and that is he knows where to be. A friend pointed that out to me about a year ago and having watched young James a few times since then I think they had a point. He needs to improve how often he wins the ball in the contest, but he seems to be in the right place a lot of the time. That's a hard thing to teach a young player and certainly gives the club something to work with in my opinion.

Kellie wasn't awful, but her voice doesn't lend her to a commentating position in my opinion. Pretty embarassing when she claimed a teammate had put Thompson under all sorts of pressure when it was a brilliant kick. The thing that drove it home for me was how much more I enjoyed the match when the commentary went off :p

I got more and more used to her voice as the game went on, but I really thought at the start she sounded like she was holding her nose tight.. or like she had a blocked nose.

Good job to her though :thumbsu:
