Is it just me or does everyone think that Craigy must rate Sloany pretty high?
To be honest, I thought McKernan would get the gig ahead of him thinking he had a better pre-season but no, Sloanys got a spot.
Also in the IAS match, he had alot of gametime and was played as an inside midfielder most of his TOG. Even though he got about 4 possies, Craigy kept him there.
Wouldnt be suprised to see him play a bit next year, especially now Ruttens out and one of our backs will have to take his spot.

No James Moss. :( Well, this game got a lot less interesting.

Real excited to see the likes of Cook, Kite and Walker though. Really hope Schmidt gets the nod too as I'm a big fan and I think he could be a very solid player for this club.

While we will probably lose lets hope the likes some of the younger players put up a fight and that we dont get spanked.

Iy would be good if we won but it wont phase me if we dont.

Damn was hoping he would get a game.

Ripped from afl.com:

Adelaide has named Trent Hentschel in its 29-man squad to prepare for Saturday night’s NAB Cup opener against Geelong Cats at Telstra Stadium.
Hentschel’s likely return from a serious knee injury will be the headline news but the Crows also named the untried Taylor Walker, Jared Petrenko, Rory Sloane, Myke Cook, Aaron Kite and rookie Brodie Martin in the squad, still to be cut to 26.

The squad also includes a number of players with only limited AFL exposure, including Brad Moran (10 AFL games), Jarrhan Jacky (three games), Andy Otten, Patrick Dangerfield and Chris Schmidt (two games) and James Sellar (one game).

Hentschel has not played for the Crows since August 27 2006, when he badly injured his right knee. After missing all of 2007, he returned to football last year and played 10 games at league and reserves level with SANFL club Woodville-West Torrens but was frustrated by hamstring problems.
Adelaide trains on Friday morning from 10am at Max Basheer Reserve.

The squad is: Gill, Moran, Reilly, Thompson, Griffin, Edwards, Jacky, Doughty, Shirley, Walker, Mackay, Sloane, Vince, Johncock, Maric, Knights, Otten, McLeod, Stevens, Kite, Sellar, Dangerfield, Petrenko, Cook, Goodwin, Hentschel, Martin, Schmidt, Bock.

Not wanting to stick up for CroCop, believe me, but maybe he has a point. All things being considered including Martin up until this stage, certainly implies a level of support - and interest - for the guy that doesn't exist on here.

When Adelaide handles more than 50 flights a day you may get lucky, I mean hell they extended the runway so they could get BIG freight aircraft in yet you only get two a week:o pissing money up against the wall again:o Ohh go down to the airport and you will see the new V Australia B777 and when you do see it think to yourself geez Maccas can fly on that for free:thumbsu:

you know what, when I drive past a soup kitchen I don't envy those guys getting free soup!! :D

To be honest I'm not sure why people aren't keen on him. He's about as unfashionable as Gallman!
Yeah, he's pretty short and light, nobody had heard of him when we drafted him, and yeah he's a rookie, but if you look past that he's been pretty impressive in the SANFL (seniors and ressies, including a BoG in reserves grand final), and pretty much everyone, including the media, had him in their best against the IAS. I've only seen him play a few times, but I'm a fan and think he's a decent chance to make it as an AFL footballer.
Let's face it, we DON'T have a small, pacy crumbing forward. Martin has the athletic attributes and attack on the ball/man needed to perform this role, and, to date, he's outperformed our other option, Jacky, in the SANFL and IAS game. I don't know whether the club intends to develop him as that kind of player, but we could bloody use one (and, given the premature games Jacky got last year, the club knows it). It won't surprise me if he's left out of the team against Geelong, but it also wouldn't come as a shock if he was given plenty of ToG.

yeah, I pretty much agree with all of that.

I thought that Armstrong did enough in the last game to be given another opportunity - he certainly did more than Sloane for example who is included again (at this stage with 3 to drop out).

Is Armstrong injured again or did last game count for nothing?

Realistically yes last game probably did count for nothing. Different style of player, different positions, who cares? They have had a whole pre-season to look at all players I would not worry about it much. Whoever gets a go I hope they show some glimpses.

Finally some people that agree with me . Well done Crow - Mo and dandy Go. I would love to see Martin tries as that Small crumbing forward .He has evasiveness, carries the ball , attacks the ball and comes at a player and then sidesteps (remember Vardy) . These are all atributes required for a small forward plus he his quick and slippery. He was the only one that looked up to the pace of the Abo All Stars last week. CMON CRAIG have some guts , get this guy of the rookie lists and make this guy that crumbing fwd we have long been missing.

Dandy_GO, when will you propose to Martin?

Why the heck would he do that? He's played about 5 SANFL league games the rest have been spent in the reserves. He's played one meaningless exhibition game and yet you're calling for Craig to get him off the rookie list? Staggering.

Even Moss has proved more. He's played more SANFL league footy and cracked an extremely strong Centrals side to win a premiership as a teeanger. And not to mention he's 12 months younger.

Really don't understand all the Martin hype. He's okay but has a long, long way to go to even get himself on the senior list.

Dunno. How'd the Meesen/Pfeiffer/Campbell proposals work out for you?

All the Martin hype? There isn't any! He's barely ever mentioned, and when he is, someone always ends up rubbishing him. Just about every player on the list gets pumped up more than Martin.

I do agree, however, that calling for an upgrade at this stage is a pretty massive stretch. Particularly when I'm not sure we even could (does burton count as LTI, given that he's set to return mid season?). He's not even close to first 22 yet. I'm just impressed with what I've seen so far from a bloke who's pretty much come from nowhere.
